  • this game is so hard!!! snes better....

  • garbage

  • Bravo, that was really a hard game, I was always dying before the duck when I was 8)

  • i just got this for Sega lol

  • @FiswaT Sega cd has a game called: Sonic CD.

  • I'm impressed at not only the boss music...but the fact the music in this game itself...well..quite amazing

  • kids nowadays have it so easy, no more spending hours just to master the jump sequences for an area of one level after dying like 1000 times

  • What!? There was more than Driving in this game?

  • i loved this game for the regular sega genesis (megadrive)........but i dont see any differrence for the sega cd............i mean the graphics are the same.........just the musics different...............whats the deal?

  • According to Wikipedia, the music and animations were improved and the racing stages as well.

Go search Batman Returns in Wikipedia.

  • I remember spencer nielson also did the ost for spiderman cega cd and the ecco the dolphin games on sega cd I have all of those ost and they are well worth finding. I have the actual cds though even though my spiderman is scratched up.

  • the music is nice as well

  • i absolutley struggled on act 5... you made it look easy.

  • its a lot like Castlevania

  • wait a sec...that cant be the ending can it? where the part at the end where you fight catwoman for the last time like in the sega genesis version?

  • it says its one of three endings so the catwoman end is propably one of the other ones

  • How can so many tall clowns and clowns with rocket launchers hide in a few small ice cubes? But, reality aside, this game is great!

  • Juegazo para el MEGA CD

  • Wasn't this a driving game?

  • quante ore passate a giocare con questo videogame... una vita fa!!

  • the only thing about this version i liked at the time was the driving bits and the superb music. the platform bits absolutely sucked.

  • this and the snes game are okay, but i find

    the nes game even better.

  • This is good... but the Snes version is still the best Batman game ever.

  • I had this version and my friend had the SNES version. In terms of graphics I thought the SNES was way better version and was a bit jealous. But as I thought with most SNES to Genesis comparisons I thought the Sega version was more fun to play. The SNES version is really just a button smasher, all be it a really good one. I'm more of a fan of the platform style games that the Genesis did so well.

  • i remember playing this game i remember that i was turned into a elephant at one level it was wierd.

  • I like the music on the first stage of this clip most.

  • If this is the Sega CD version. Then I'll have to say that the Super Nintendo's Batman Returns is WAY better!

  • Batman Returns on the SNES is probably the best Batman game to date.

  • sad, but true.

  • way better in what? just a boring button smasher just like final fight, ninja warriors, king of dragons, streets of rage..this on the other hand mixes challenging driving scenes and fun plataform action

  • @CloudStrifeZX

Maybe he ment the MD plattforming vs the SNES. Therefore I agree.

The Sega CD driving sequences were indeed one of a kind and belong to the best 16-Bit US productions ever.

  • Some of the music in this video can be heard on Screwattack's Video Game Vault "Batman Forever: the Arcade Game" episode

  • 4:37...Easily one of the coolest video game music tracks I've EVER heard. If Spencer Neilsen is still making music, he needs to do more stuff that sounds like this!

  • Wow... no ending, just credits.

  • i think u had to play on hard to get the ending

  • how, do u record ur game like this

  • Probably he recorded on PC using emulator. Most of the people do that.

  • The SEGA / MEGA CD version has the one of the best musics in the history of video games.

  • I must agree on that, while the SNES version certainly did not lag in the music department, the music was adapted from the film. Me thinks the music composers of this game deserve a special mention for their creativity.

  • Yeah, that Spencer Nielsen was a genius. He also did Sonic CD and Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2 for the CD.

  • The SNES game was very good, the best movie-based game ever made in my opinion. This game was passable.

  • this is inferior to the snes version

  • I played this game from sega mega drive, but its the same game

  • cuando entre a 3ro de secundaria escuche esa musica y se me hizo muy hermosa y fastuosa y sobre todo como de plataformas

  • Act 5 of 5

The pros are: on-the-edge 3D graphics (for the era), general dynamics (action + special effects + music are blasty, wow), the constant rejuvenating of gameplay (new scenes, new tricks, new obstacles, new enemies, varied bosses), so you're never bored (the driving shooter shifts into an obstacle puzzle-run under the batski). And the fantastic score.

I definitely think it is the best Batman Returns game. First Person Drive Shooter is just too cool.

  • Act 4 or 5

The cons are: no unlimited lives (unless for the first couple acts), which makes it actually quite challenging, the clowns are way too surreal-supernatural (they don't respect physical logics), the platform graphics are dated even for its era (colours and grainy design), and there's no real animations or shots from the films as ending sequences. In fact it barely has anything to do with the film at all, except subtle bits and the Penguin himself.

  • Act 3 of 5

It seems the driving sequence of Act 3 (Outskirts) was intermixed with the Act 2 driving scene in the snow. The City Limits scene should precede the Department Store platform part, while the snow sequence should precede the circus platform, if you want to follow story logic. It is a real pity that the 5th driving sequences was not included in the Full Game (we can't really make out that the Duck Clown is Penguin anyway).

  • Act 2 of 5

The platform part itself was accused of being traditional, but it's actually quite varied throughout. The enemies and scapes shift too much to ever bore you.

The music is so great, one of the first game to had real recorded rock as OST, and it was so good that I long thought it was the original score of Batman Returns (the film). Sort of a mainstream rock meets gothic pop, and subtle bits of circus music.

  • Act 1 of 5

Wow. This gamer is skilled! This is one of the toughest game I've played. I had to keep saving micro states to succeed instead of experiencing it as fluidly as shown here.

This game is an underestimated classic. Came out around the same time as Doom and thus was also one of the first full (all-textured) 3D Shooter (albeit, in a car).

  • That song that plays at the beginning is awesome, does anyone have it?

  • Some great music to this game.

  • the music is kind sad in those batman games,it really sad the pengiun is the underdog and the music emo.

  • it their any were i can download that first song that played? its just so epic lol

  • that just looks like Sonic

  • "They totally need to bring back the old Michael Keaton Batman and re-make this game in next-gen."

  • I didn't care for some of Batman's animation, either... Plus, those side-scrolling levels all had this "grainy" look!! What was that about??? I seem to remember Sega's big "fighting" game Eternal Champions (Was that what it was called??) had that same grainy look to the graphics!!

  • Hey buddie!

I used to have Sega Cd and also this game.

You seem to be the right person to ask.

There is any possibility to download this game and the Sega Cd emulator from any site?? As i really love this game and my console is not working anymore...

    Thanks for your help!

    cheers!!!

    Rodrigo.

  • yes it is what is your e-mail all gave you all you need!

  • I´m talking about Batman Returns not Eternal Champs! :)

  • Spencer Nilsen's music was pretty average I think!! They should've asked Tommy Tallarico to do the music... his stuff is more up-beat!!

And YES, Batman should've been a different color than "purple"???!! But, I guess that shows the Genesis's lack of a decent color palatte!!

  • I agree on almost all aspecs...Though I think the music itself on the sega cd version was freakin awesome..(but not for this game) like..some of the songs on this version of the game could have been on the movie and i would have loved it all the same. On the color issue I agree 100%...they should have made him wear all black like in the movie..no exscuses Sega! AND NINTENDO!

  • If you want to hear some music by Tommy Tallarico, he did the soundtrack for The Terminator for the Sega-CD. The color issue is probably because of the Genesis's color palate. It could only display 80 different colors on screen at one time. The Turbo-Graphics system could display 264 colors at a time, and I think the Super Nintendo could display over a thousand colors at a time. Now, what REALLY would've been cool, was if they had remade this for the 32-X!!!

  • Can you imagine what a "32-X" version would've looked like??? With that HUGE color palate and the scrolling and scaling capabilities plus the processing speed!!! It's really too bad the 32-X didn't have a longer life... We could've seen some of the best video games EVER MADE!!!!!!

  • Now, obviously, I'm a big fan of Sega's... but this game was not one of their best!! Namely, because it was created by guys in America as opposed to Sega of Japan's staff...

The driving sequences were great, but the side-scrolling levels were just the Genesis version.

  • I think it would have been worse if it wer made by sega japan. Then the music would have been TOOOOOO up-beat,and ruined the seriuosness of the Batman Returns movie (even though this game's levels dont follow the movie much. All and all they should remake this game in next gen..imagine that ;)

  • What I really hated about this game is that you get hurt simply by touching the goons. I mean, it's fucking batman.

  • wow no proper ending, talk about a shitty game compared to the snes version

  • it sucks, snes version is much better than genesis, this is beacause graphics and sound

  • The SNES game is too hard and is too repetitive. the Sega CD version is way better!

  • they ALL have there pros and cons...

    Gen-version,,cool midi soundtrack

    Snes-best gameplay and MOVIE sounds/pics.

Sega CD-best 3d levels AND original soundtrack

if only they could mix all 3!!!

have levels of snes AND GEN and the soundtrack of the sega cd.that would be KILLER but long =(

  • I thought the SEGA CD was meant to be more powerful than the Mega Drive or SNES? This game looks awful! its got nothing on the SNES version.

  • I need cheats for the genesis game - not the CD game.

Also - any tips on beating penguin the second time in ACT 1? or was it ACT 2?

(when he has the giant spikey ball)

For years I haven't been able to get passed this.

    Help me!

    Thanks

  • lol. my dad bought this game for me when i was 4.

and 14 years later, i still cant beat it.

    shame. ]:

  • omg you guys are kidding me!!!!if all else failes,,,CHEAT!!

  • You are failing when the giant spikey ball is chasing you or when you are actually facing the Penguin?

  • These sound like atari sound effects

  • And the CG. Are those the only differences?

  • According to this video, both games look exactly the same with the exception of the music and sound FX.

  • In the Mega CD version there are several new driving stages, not present in the Mega Drive version. That's the main difference, aside from the new musical score and cutscenes.

  • Oh ok. Yeah, I only played the Mega Drive (Genesis) version. But thanks for the heads-up.

  • What's the difference between the Sega Genesis and the Sega CD version?

  • Cool mousic. I didn't like how Batman looked purple.

  • Anyway, I'm curious. Sega CD is supposed to be really powerful, and some commenters are telling me that the graphics and sound are lightyears ahead of the SNES. Aside from the driving scenes and the music, this looks and sounds like a typical Genesis game.

  • ..."aside from the driving scenes"....jaja there is a complete game only whit that!!...and the sounds doesnt matter? no ? jajaja it is something really important that adds a lot of realism.. but i have another example to show that sega cd is more powerfull than super nes:compare star fox whit suposed amazing poligons grapichs...whit shilpeed.....sega cd wins for years of light! it looks like a cinema in your home...

  • You should actually compare Starfox with Virtua Racing, a true example where the Mega Drive game (using SVP) beats the SNES game (using Super FX) very hard in terms of polygonal display. Silpheed would if it wasn't for the fact that its whole backgrounds are pre-rendered videos from a station studio. Not actually generated by the console.

  • i agree whit about Virtua Racing__Better_Faster than Star fox_yeah!

But Silpheed..well that is another World_and i think it doesnt matter how they do it(prerendered or not)it is a Sega cd Game and one of the most outstandings polygonal games i have ever seen..Star fox has nothing to do compared whit it__i think it is incredible to watch and play even today..

  • ...but the best example of all is when you compare final fight snes whit final fight sega cd...the first has only 1 fighter, the sounds is not near the arcade and a level is missing out.. the sega cd version has 2 players simultaniusly, the sound is fucking awesome even better than the arcade whit guitar solos and voices singing ,all the levels intact and an extra time attack level well ...the winner is obvius...

  • doesn't seem to be much of a fun game, but i don't mind the music

  • "One of three endings"? He's on a building and credits roll... What ending? Fission Mailed.

  • It's way better than that other ending where Batman kills Catwoman (an inheritance from the Mega Drive version), which is absolutely non-canonical according to the movie. At least this ending has nothing of that.

  • The most difficult game ever, and it has awesome songs

  • i agree whit you the challenge on this game is 5 stars

  • How did the SNES make a better game in Batman Returns than the more powerful Sega CD system, Which i bought- and needless to say NEVER bought another sega console.

  • Well for one thing, being on a more powerful system doesn't make a game good, the design is what makes it. Whoever made this Batman Returns simply did a worse job than Konami did on the SNES.

  • obiusly you havent played the sega cd version..

look the escence of the game is the driving scenes and they are fantastic, the grapics have the quality of an arcade in the level on rad mobile or even better

an they are years of light better than super ness driving scenes ...the platform stages...are an extra gift..the sound is something out of this world composed by spencer nielsen

i tell you the sega cd batman returns is awesome maybe one of the best games i have ever played in a home system

  • Well, if it weren't a Batman game maybe I'd think differently, but personally, I think a Batman game should be about the fighting and not about platforming and driving. Of course I know Batman is about more than the fighting but it's not as if you can expect more than action in an arcade style game.

  • yeah the super nes one avtually makes batman black, its more like a fighter

  • better game than sega cd?jaja have you checked out the batimovile scenes and the motorboat stage?

the sega cd intro has amazing pictures of batman whit zoom effects, the car stages has scalling ,rotation, zoom and hyper better music than super nes,is an arcade in your home

    think about it again

  • Well I'll agree about the Batmobile and boat scenes, they are better, but the graphics and music don't make it better. Besides all that, I don't care how sharp and clean the music is, it doesn't sound like anything I've heard in the movie. It's just generic action music.

  • well if you think that all the games should have the exactly same music of the movie that would be boring and a thousands of games would be dinied by your reviews..

i dont understand you "you dont care about that the batmovile scenes are better..you dont care about the sound is great..amigo you dont care about nothing..

  • No it wouldn't be boring, because usually these generic scores suck. And I don't judge games based off their music alone.

  • Did you even see the SNES version of Batman Returns? Both of Sega's versions pale in comparison to the SNES version.

  • The Mega Drive version does pale. The Mega CD version, with its awesome driving stages and fantastic musical score, by all means no. SNES version has better beatem up stages, but can't match the driving stages and music tracks of the Mega CD version.

  • Ok cool, I can definitely see that. I just thought the Batman Returns video game (For the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in particular) was a poor 2-D side scroller. And I generally love 2-D side scrollers. The SNES seemed to have the best overall presentation.

I do however love Sunsoft's Batman for the NES. I absolutely love that game more than any of the Batman Returns games. However, I'm pretty sure the Sega Mega CD/CD version of BR was a much better game than the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version.

  • snes version is just a pitful beat em up

  • ALL CLOWN JUS RAN IN MOVIE

  • One of my favorite Batman games!

  • lmao, ok let me explain. You see if you go to options menu at beggining you can choose "Full Game" "Drving Only" or "Platform Only" I basically did each and showed each ending. "full game" is also a lie because as you can see from this video it goes straight from sewers platform to penguins hideout platform.

  • Three endings?! How is that possible? How do you get each one?
