  • Love Neil's drum sound, up to Moving Pictures that was his best drum sound in my opinion.

  • Capital Theater!!

  • My Gosh I love Rush

  • @SilentKnight4 The condo tower is going up next to the park, not in it. Lakeside Park and everything mentioned in the song will still be there.

  • Muito bom ouvir essa música!!!

  • So many memories

  • Rush is amazing. An excellent Canadian band! Timeless!!!!

  • lakeside park is immune to demolition

    its been immortalized

    thanks to RUSH

ITS A FOND CHILDHOOD MEMORY OF FAR MORE PEOPLE THAN THOSE WHO VISITED THERE

  • KILLER!!!#!!

  • As of this Labour Day weekend - Lakeside Park will be no more. Demolition starts shortly and a massive new condo building will be built where the park once existed. Bittersweet. Truly an end of an era.

  • @SilentKnight43 r u kidding?!

  • lakeside park rocks and im 9 and this song is awesome

  • @CallofdutyWiifan Are you 9??? follow this road, I´m 41 and start listenig Rush in the late 70´s at about 10, now my son is 8 and he start hearing Rush since he wasn´t born yet and and keeps enjoying them

  • This is a somewhat better performance and arrangement than the one on All the World's a Stage, IMO. I like how Geddy added the Taurus pedals and Neil keeps the rhythm differently on the hi hat in one for the guitar solos.

I lived a few miles from this venue, but had not heard of Rush yet in '76. I finally saw them in '81, but would love to have caught them earlier.

  • Though its just a memory..some memories last for ever...........

  • Another great tune that reminds me of a sweet little lady I knew. The park though, was called Emerson Park. Ahhh, the memories of summer time in that park with her are wonderful! Music has such a moving, ethereal feeling to evoke warm memories.

  • 4 letters in

Alex, Neil, and Gary (Geddy) and in RUSH!!!!!

  • My favorite Rush album is Moving Pictures.Tom Sawyer,YYZ,Limelight, yeah baby! Sad thing is,I never got to see Rush in concert. Now I do not go to concerts but that's ok.if it's any consolation,I did see Frank Marino and Mahoghany Rush.Does that count? LOL!

  • @thecoolestdad haha i don't know there also a good band

  • Ate breakfast with them at Alpine

Valley. 1st big show ever at alpine

  • My favorite song off Caress of Steel. I'm kinda bipolar with that album though because it used to be The Necromancer... After all, every song on it is perfect... Just like every '70s Rush album.

  • para una noche llena de rock...Rush una buena banda de progresivo

  • Some idiots are building condos on an old building next to lake side park so if you don't want them post a like on my comment

  • @FamilyArth What the fuck is a Like going to do to help Lakeside Park?...

  • Sounds just like the studio version... That's how you know you're a fucking incredible band.

  • Speechless~

  • Happy Canada Day!

  • Ohh also Neil Peart went to the ellementary school right behind me

  • I live there it's in port dalhousie st Catharines it sucks it's gonna look bad soon there putting in condos right in the best part :( still the best place to live:)

  • Though i never been to this lakeside park cuz im in cali, i wish to go there sumday, but this song is still nice cuz it talks of memories of goin places like parks, gud times........

  • a song out the may 24 weekend means so much to me being canadian. memories with my family, it just makes rush so much more down to earth.

  • too bad Port Dalhousie is being dismantled and destroyed by developers as I type this...memories indeed...

  • POWER - TRIO

  • this song is about Port Dalhousie Ontario which is a 10 min drive from my house :DDD

  • what a goodlike voice

  • Gotta love Geddys voice man it transports me back to 70s radio and the toledo sports area where i saw them so many times.

  • I photographed RUsh in an outdoor concert on Sept 21, 1975 in Calgary. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • Niel peart~best drummer ever

  • Lake side park is a big park in st Catharines Ontario just so you know, this song rocks

  • 10 cent wonders <3 are no where to be found these days :[

  • Canadian Rock kicks ASS!!!!!

  • This song defines "Caress of Steel" to a tee. Play it on the radio WAY more often, please Canada.

  • This is the very first rock song that I listened to. I received Caress of Steel for Xmas in 76. Guess what!!!! i still have the album and I still know every word to this classic song.

  • I feel honored to live 1 minute from Port Dalhousie (Lakeside Park) in St. Catharines.

  • one of my all-time fave RUSH songs!!

  • Greatest song in the history of all mankind, PERIOD!

  • I just figured something out: the opening statement of Alex's guitar solo in this song is something of a rough draft for his lead on "Tom Sawyer."

  • my dad used to be a carnie at lakeside park in St. Catherines , Ontario about 8 years before Neil was.

  • alex looks so young!

    and yummy

  • @synchgirl65 agreed

  • it's clever how Ged sings the word 'memory' at 3:20 with 3 syllables then uses the word 'memories' 2 words later with 2 syllables

  • @SnowDogRedSectorEh

Thats what makes a good singer.

  • @SnowDogRedSectorEh

Thats what makes a good singer.

  • What beautiful music coming from my Macintosh!

  • If only Geddy could still sing like this...

  • I have been a Rush fan since 77. Always loved the band. I however was not a fan of Neils lyrics. He`s had some great moments and this is truly one of them. Great lyrics here. True to life and very musical. Sound great when sung. Awesome.

  • Its hard to believe that they are all around 22-23 years old in this video and they already 4 studio albums released. My 3 favorite bands in the whole world - Yes, Rush and Heart - are not yet in the RROF. It doesnt make any sense.

  • Rush isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the same reason that Howard Roark was ignored and misunderstood through his life (in the novel The Fountainhead). The proles can't understand Rush because Rush didn't conform. Society always punishes those who don't conform.

  • Does anyone know where in Passaic, New Jersey this was flimed? I grew up in the next city over and I'm curious. Thanks so much!

  • @cocovation this was filmed at memorial auditorium right off route 36 at the stanford avenue exit. the building was torn down in 1982 to make way for some underground tiling.

  • RIGHT LET'S STOP MESSING ABOUT!!

Try playing Lee's bass lines (and singing) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's syncopated drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.

The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth i.e. bands like say McFly or U2. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!

    Does anyone else agree?

  • i went to the beach down at the bottom of woodbine st in toronto i wish i had my ipod i would be blasting this

  • Smokin' on the pier.

  • Everyone would gather on the 24th of May sitting in the sand to watch the fire works display . Dancing fires on the beach , singing songs together , though it's just a memory , some memories last forever !........ Well said Geddy !

  • Some memories DO last for ever! Great days!

  • who is playing the keyboards?

  • @arbshredder Geddy is playing a Taraus Bass petal

  • @arbshredder Geddy with his feet. Moog Taurus pedals.

  • back in the very early seventies . i used to watch them as a bar band at duffey's in hamilton . in my 50's now and still love them

  • It is SO AWESOME to hear Geddy play his bass pedals on this.

  • what I would do to go back in time and see this live....

  • @georgenoory Would you kill a man?

  • @Legionbass19

    depends which man

  • @georgenoory

    Im with you on that!

  • @georgenoory me and you both!! ;)

  • at 1:11 i looked to see if Geddy was playing the synthesizer, but it must be Moog bass pedals!! ;)

  • love Neil's fill at 1:31!! too cool!! ;)

  • Even though I like the studio version even more, this live version is epic sauce!

  • the guitarist is fuckin sick but the singer really kind of blows. the cd version of this is 6 million times better because the singing sounds way better. also, the last half of this song is kind of unneccesary. i know this will get a lot of thumbs down but i heard this song from a snowboarding video way back when i was a kid and just giving my opinion on this live version

  • this reminds me of whonock lake i was with a bunch of friends she lives like a block away and we went to a park on a lake and i was blasting this on ipod speakers it seemed kinda fitting and there was a camp fire at fitted with dancing fires on the beach

  • Port Dalhousie ON ahh Lakeside Park

    RUSH is # 1

  • @luthergeddy

Neil lived in Port and wrote the song about Lakeside Park just down the street.

  • yes.. as always great

  • Niel Peart is such a genius "a pocket full of silver" not nickels or dimes, witch is what It probably was. He new the song would remain timeless. Yea and Fuck the RRHOF madonna made it in over Metallica not that Metallica's worth a crap since Cilff Died..... anyfuckinway better be on your own then in bad company. P.S RUN DMC should not be in there but ease up, they still kick ass... YA close minded Racist.

  • Sounds like they were going into 2112 right at the end of this song.

  • @rcgaz They do.

  • RUSH THE MOST AWESOME BAND EVER FORMED ! Can you Imagine a world without thier music ? I can't Thanks GREAT VIDEO !

  • Music from Rush's most under rated yet greatest album ever,Caress of Steel. The album where they created a whole new style of music-high energy hard progressive rock using just guitar, bass and drums(and of course one of the most high energy vocals from Geddy in history).

  • ........so many memories.....

  • this song will always hold a special place in my heart

  • 0 dislikes, good job world

  • @Basspowns i loled so hard at that! its too true

  • @1964toma 50'000 views and 0 dislikes is impressive

  • there in my rick and roll hall of fame already dont need them in there with run dmc

  • Haha... You'd think Geddy just got his Taurus pedals here... it's like he's got a new toy.

  • Wait, Rush isn't in the Hall of fame, in the town that put them on the map? Now I know a hall of fame for music is absolutely pointless. Who gives a rats ass if a shrine is built around rock and roll artifacts. The real artifacts are a groups vinyl pressings that are readily available still. That and all of the very exciting audio and video that is pretty much 'zero admission' on youtube. Thanks for posting people.

  • Never herd this song with pedals.

    wow...

  • good quality!

  • awesome vid

  • One of my old time Rush favorites!

  • The rock and roll hall of fame is for fags and jekrfaces..who don't have ears let alone a brain for fucks sakes...= Dumb people.

  • Epic voice.

  • You know they should play this now. Geddy still has the voice for this song.

  • @badboybob1074 songs i question if geddy can pull off:Beneath, Between, and Behind, Fly by night, Anthem, Finding My Way, Circumstances...and most of the early stuff

  • @PeeceSells He probably could pull any of the old stuff off. But it's either they choose not to or that even Geddy knows that he sing those songs like he could back in the day. You know they do "Resist" and the cover "Heart Full Of Full" unplugged they should put "Rivendell" in that portion too.

  • Alex is pure power. He is my GOD!

  • The RRHOF is proof you don't need talent to be accepted by fools! RUSH has always done it their way and that proves they have integrity to their own musical vision. Practically every week there is some awards show to honor this, that or the other thing that is important to people who obsess over talentless endevor. THE AUDIOCONSTRUCT has spoken. All adjourn! LOL

  • Man this brings back the best memories of growing up in Toronto. Along with 2112, my fav Rush track though I love everything up through Moving Pictures. I'm so glad to see a lot of young rockers on here. Sorry you didn't get to see them in their "prime" but look on the brightside, you're fucking young! Go see Porcupine Tree, they're still in their prime, and amazing!!!!!!!

  • Wow. it sounds so different than from the album, but still so awesome. Wasn't caress of steel one of their first albums?

  • @0neLittleVictory Caress of Steel was their third album. It was disregarded by the citics as bad and the supporting tour was called the "Down the tubes tour", but they came back with 2112 after and redeemed themselves in the eyes of the music label they were signed with. RUSH was proud of the COS album and I never figured out why it was never accepted. You can see the evolution of their vision begin to emerge on that release.

  • @THEAUDIOCONSTRUCT i think this info came from Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage right? watched today and thats liek exactly what was said

  • I read what I wrote from a fan site I visited, and I saw the Beyond the Lighted Stage a week after, so I guess I got that from a guy who watched it first. In any case COS has been on of my favorites, I'm 54 so I go all the way back to the bands inception. After I watched the documentary I liked RUSH even more because they all seem like real regular people that did it right. PEECESELLS "But who's buying"

  • @0neLittleVictory Their 3rd, and it was very disliked when it came out. I love it.

  • after this long i hope they send midget emissaries from the great white north to accept the award, we know they will always be rock roll roots the {Alex Haley) of rock genres. they created there own genre of music so where is the Rush hall of fame? duh, its right next to Lakeside Park!

  • Madonna is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame, the Clash, and so on. Rush is in a league of their very own, a fucking awesome one! So fuck the establishment....Rush Rocks!

  • i really like the huge stacks behind geddy and alex. old skewl you know. not checken rottiseries or vending machines.

  • i wish i could have seen this. why couldnt i have been born like 50 years ago :(

  • Rush is one of my favourite bands.

  • Caress of Stell was they're best album! Always thought Geddy Lee should have got a cameo part in Lord of the Rings. They're early stuff was so influanced by Tolken. AND I think Geddy would have made a great Elven King.

  • simply precious!

  • Love how geddy uses the Taraus Bass petals on this song.

  • Ah those good old pedals. I sign of good things to come.

  • joshcop69, No Shit! There are so many morons in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame that it's nothing short of a joke! Run DMC, John Cougar Mellencamp, JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP??? WTF? If it wasn't so sad I'd laugh...

  • Rocks, wish they would have shown more of Neil.

  • Would loved to have seen them with UFO. They did quite a few tours together.

  • this vid is rare rare thx for post...

  • Rush-straight from the heart and beautiful though mabeye it lacked charisma sometimes was so good because it was so honest

  • they sound so perfect...fuckin love rush and this song....just evokes good times and a sense of euphoria

  • hahah love what he did with the drums during the guitar solo sounded sick

  • FANTASTIC video. But to add my .02 to the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" comments... if Run DMC is actually IN the Hall already like some people have said out here, then I hope to god Rush NEVER makes it in. I don't want the MOST TALENTED ROCK BAND EVER to have ANY association with such a fu*king JOKE of a group as Run DMC, NOR any "hall of fame" that would appoint a bunch of knuckle-dragging 'hood rats that never played any real instruments anyway, but just spit rhymes and Ebonics terms.

  • hahaha nice touch with the knuckle dragging...very true statement though

  • @joshcop69 just wanted to say i love your comment friend.

  • @joshcop69

    WOW! Racist much?

  • @TheMilford No :S he made no comments on their race, but it really is true, madonna is in there too.

  • @joshcop69 Fuck the "Mall of Lame". It's the most uncool shithole imaginable. The fag Jann Wenner only puts in bands he had a crush on. I'm glad they're putting rappers in there, hopefully that will lead to it being looted and destroyed. Rap fans are good at looting and wrecking things. Let that dump be overrun by Run DMC fans!

  • @joshcop69 To Make Matters More Of A Joke, NickelBack Was Inducted to the rock and roll HOF In 2005

  • @joshcop69

Labels are for those that are starved for attention.

    Music is.

  • @joshcop69

if Run DMC is in, kick 'em out and let RUSH take their place! ALL HAIL THE LORDS OF ROCK! I BASK IN THEIR HOLY PRESENCE!

  • Rush has been (in my obviously very biased opinion) one of the few viable rocks bands on the scene for the past decade and a half. 15 consecutive gold, 13 platinum, a sell-out in every arena they play, and still not in the Hall of Fame. I feel they're the most successful band in the history of rock and roll. There's not another band who's been around longer than they've been without ever breaking up and/or changing band members.

  • Their style can not be overcome. They created a sound a rithm, a demanding musical metric. They`re mystical and so are beyond of conventional.

  • Though it's just a memory some memories last forever.

  • ROCK ON ST., CATHARINES AND CANADA

  • Not sure if you could find 3 better musicians. Geddy Lee....omg. Just phenomenal.

    Personally my fav rush tune.

    Thanks for posting

  • wow!! How cool is this version with synth foot pedal and rougher guitar? Awesome.

  • One of the first times they used foot pedals possibly?

  • i live about 3 minutes away from lakeside park where the drummewr lived and what this whole song is based on ;) its in st.catharines ontario

  • its kinda sad though listening to this song, just thinking that their gonna be flattening port with that stupid condo tower in a year or so.

  • holy sweet flyin fuck is that ever a sassy bass.

  • rush no need a place in the hall of fame because is not enough place men

  • Flawless!

  • neurolinguistic(lol) "Geddy" Lee's voice sounds like a gitar, how ironic he also plays the bass. as an ignorant teen of the 80's I always pictured him with some blood red gitar with silver strings.

  • r & r hall of shame believes that rock and roll is lyp-synching performers with choregraphed background dancers all dressed in the same clothes.

if you you have that , your in.

writing/reading music, singing or playing an instrument is not a requirement for rock and roll see run-dmc , I guess if madonna is in ....how long you think before they put brittanie speer in the real shame would be if rush were to associate with those douches

  • @pm3181 Yes & KISS YES JETHRO TULL etc

  • I saw them in Terre Haute,IN in 74 or 75 they opened for KISS what a show !!

  • wow Geddy's voice is awesome back then !!!!

  • f the rock n roll hall of fame. they cant igorne this band forever.

  • damn that what ive been saying u are all right in my book. this band is my favorite band ever seen them 7 times and they never dissapoint.peace to all

  • @zachharbi good deeds go unnoticed by morons, bad deeds are perceived good and thus rush will always be obscure, but better than the rest they waded through the media crap and pc ism.

  • @zachharbi (and joshcop69)

Agree with the Hall comments. Another criminal omission is Todd Rundgren. Not sure what's behind guys like him and Rush being snubbed, while MADONNA (rock and roll?) slides in.

  • @zachharbi let rush tell em no thank you...there should be a Rush Hall of Fame..that other bands want to get into...when youve been making the greatest music for 25 years or more

  • these postings here are much to us-oriented. There is a few, if not much fans across the world for R.

    Neil rules......managing live

  • Geddy + Alex + Neil = RUSH!

  • why run dmc are in the hall of fame and rush are not ..... its stupid hate all of fame ...

  • moving to "We'd like to do for you side one of our latest album, this is called 2112." Wow! where the heck have the years gone? Thank you for putting this up!

  • ATWAS was my first Rush show! I saw them in KC. Unfortunately, they were with Nugent. After Rush played, I left.

  • USA RULES AND DON'T FORGET THAT!

  • No one else in the world outside of USA gives a flying shit about a hall of fame...!!!

That's for frikin Nancy boys, gays and lezzas.

    Oh...and chuddie eaters.

  • Not many people inside the USA give a shit about the hall of fame. Although it still is an insult for them not to be in it.

Also, the USA doesn't give much of a shit about outside the USA either.

  • No we know that, they just like to shoot their allies in the back or bomb the shit out of us...!

  • Well, I don't know how much the USA actually shoot their allies in the back. What are you referring to?

I don't like how the USA wants the rest of the world to think they are stupid. It's the biggest trick in the world.
