It's not going through usb. It's hooked up directly to the midi port on my sound card. Also there weren't any plans for it. My friend and I made it ourselves to learn microcontroller programming.

It wasn't particularly difficult to make. MIDI is just serial communication. You send it note on and off velocity and other information(aftertouch) as a series of bytes. In the video it was only using channel 1 but this is also easy to change. I would recommend looking at a midi message table. Most microcontrollers should be able to transmit and receive serial data.
Yeah sounds like a scooter horn, but it could be set to sound like anything, it's just to show the midi signal is working.
How hard was this PIC to make? The only exclusively MIDI ICs I've come across (very few!) have been really expensive. And how many channels/notes/etc can it deal with?
