I remember when my Age of Empires crashed, and my computer decided not to play this music anymore... Those days were the worst days of my whole life. :P
This music is really, really good. It brings back a lot of feelings. Thanks!
What I never could understand is why if the game package said 'RISE of Rome' the Colosseum was being razed to the ground with a battlefield in the foreground.
To me many memories are just depressing. It is hard to look on them with a smile, even the good ones. And yet when I hear this game's music, both AOE's and its expansions, its like all those memories just fade back, and nostalgia seeps in. Despite this not even being my favorite game to play, it stands out as an original, with such a unique feel, a happy memory for all who have played it.
If and when I ever go into a career making games, I want to create a game with such a feel.
Takes me back to when I first discovered history aged 5 now i'm 17 and i'm still taking it at A-level the one subject I can get good grades in. And they say computer games can't teach you anything... bollocks I say!
Ahh yes this was like that progress song, it was always at this song when my nation was finally taking off and becoming a superpower that would soon annihilate the entire little diamond map.
this is definitely my favourite song from the MIDI-AoE soundtrack (and, by extension, the RoR too). I still love the redbook audio soundtrack though, heh. Childhood memories, with a hint of epicness.
They re-used some songs occasionally. You'll notice if you went through all the Rise of Rome songs, then went through the Gold Edition songs, that they also re-used a couple songs there, too.
This particular song is one of my old favourites. Good memories of my childhood.
Indeed, it's actually the only song that I liked from all the MIDI songs in AOE (not counting the actual soundtrack), but I was surprised to hear this again remade in ROR. Unfortunately, the Gold Edition doesn't include any of the "real" AOE or ROR songs from what I recall, just the MIDI's (so I never had the chance to hear this version). Thx for the upload.

This seems to be much higher quality than that on my Gold CD. Any idea why?
Also, this is my favorite song from AoE, so many good memories of typing dark rain and walking on water.

I could recall this song being in the MIDI songs of the original Age of Empires. Is this a remake or perhaps I'm mistaken?
