@DoctorPorkenfries I'm guessing some rebel spy who knew Luke was Vader's son decided to set a trap for him, reprogramming the droids. That doesn't explain the speeder bikes though. Or maybe, the rebels could have set the traps for Imperial forces, but Luke stumbled across them.
That's videogame logic for you. I like it that it doesn't really make sense.
I LOVED the mode 7 speeder level when I was younger. Sometimes I'd just load it up and play it exclusively--especially when I wanted to show my friends how cool my SNES was ;)
For me, nothing will ever top the opening level of Shadows of the Empire. Lego Star Wars, however, had a pretty good version, and Rogue Squadron would've been good if it weren't for the wonky camera.
Man those tow cables were a bitch but nothing quite as satisfying as knocking one of those ATATs down for the first time. Lego Star Wars comes close but I use this game as the baseline for ATAT crushing fun. I wish I had some cheats back in the day. I had to beat mine the hard way.
Yeah, I cheated plenty on this game back in the day as well. I was a subscriber to a magazine called Video Games and Computer Entertainment or VGCE. It had an amazing walk-through, helped me out a lot also gave me the code for infinite thermal detonators lol. Anyway, glad I could help bring back some memories.
The Rogue Squadron version was so much harder

This game was hard but nowhere near Super Star Wars hard. I actually beat this one and Return of the Jedi back in the day. Nostalgia!

it took me a minute to find the tow cables. interesting fact: u always go clockwise, i always go counterclockwise around the ATATs :\

Why is everything in the Rebel base trying to kill Luke?

heres a hint luke use your blaster in the echo base level instead of your saber and you take less damage.

You play like me. Its good to see a guide thats good for the average gamer and not some "speed run".
Good job!
Love these games

I agree with you completely. People always hate on that game, I actually liked that game a lot. Taking down the Sky Hook was tight too for its day.

Yeah I know what you mean, it felt so good the first time I brought down an AT-AT! I was so proud of myself.

@jaythom256 what about the Star Wars Battlefront games? knocking one of them over is very satisfying in those games

Man, watching this video is bringing back some memories.
Good times.
Ridiculously hard game though. I remember having to cheat in the final levels.
Cheers.
