The best thing about the series is that Kouji and the original Mazinger Z (fully repaired and reinforced with Great's Super Alloy NZ) come back in the final episodes to save the day.

This one is whacky, but I like the Italian one better. One dude's opinion.... The Italians re-made lots of theme songs imported anime during the disco-new wave transition in the late 70s... which made for some pretty bad-ass songs.... although the Great Mazinger one (Grande Mazinga) almost sounds like a Ringo Starr song :). Their themes for Grendizer (Goldrake), Great Mazinger and Mazinger Z are all amazing... Strangely, they aired those three cartoons in backward chronological order...

What's the difference between Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger?

They had Mazinger Z in Spain when I was a kid, and when Aphrodite shot her missiles, Sayaka used to say, literally translated, "Breasts out!" It was hilarious!

@yogourtbrain different pilot, totally different robot though they look so similar. Great looks slightly more buff than regular mazinger. Great has a V on its chest, swords, shoots lightning, throws the V off its chest and is stronger.

@JasperCorp IIRC it used it 2-3 times in the whole series and it lacked the rusting effect, it was just a mecha blowing on its enemis.

He can use his swords to great effect in melee, and Great Typhoon and Breast Burn are both good in melee range.
