Omg. This brings me back to my pairs skating days! I use to train with Jim pringle and Wayne Melton. I am 47 now and it seems like yesterday I use to be at competitions with John Arishita and Tammy Jerue. The 80s and early 90s were so much fun in skating artistically. I guess it's a fading sport. I switched to ice in the 90s and worked in a lot of shows.
Jayson, this is great!!! Paolo I watched that '82 Nationals tape of Paul and Tina, Tim McGuire, Rick Monturo and everyone over and over until there was so much static you couldn't see much anymore! Great memories!
when they get ready to set up the jump do they use that leg that they throw backwards to "Pick" off of the ground? or does it not touch the ground ta all ?
To Michole Star007: It's called the "toe off" of the jump and yes, the toe stop is driven into the floor to launch the jump. Best wishes on your attempts at jumping. My brother teaches competitive roller skaters to jump...He was a former world champion.
Hi.. Butterfly, yes.. the spin at 3.38 is by US skater, Rick Monturo.. he placed 3rd at worlds in men's singles that year (1982 Germany), he was an awesome spinner!

I believe Claudia Bruppacher at her peak was unbeatable in this time. She won World and European competitions in row.
