  • EMINEMS ON THE KEYBOARD MAN!

  • @joebmxx haha its not eminem

  • holy shit...great performance!

  • Matt Long. Thank God for you recovery from that horrific accident. I am reading your book. You are truly an inspiration.

  • I have been looking everywhere for the video of when the GGD sing American Girl for this tribute concert... have it posted on youtube or know where I can see it?

  • @mlaurenv82

there's a DVD of this concert

  • If he didn't spend 25 years chain smoking reds he could pry still hit those notes. Along with that, Johnny's recent plastic surgery has got his face all messed up.

  • Yeah..your right. Looks like he tries tuning at mid song at 1:13

  • I wish there was a copy of this that didn't cut off at the end. I would love to hear the audience reaction

  • And this may sound stupid, but what was this concert for?:)

  • Benefit for 9/11 and it was in 2001

  • Can anybody tell me what year this was?, Johnny sounds amazing like on the CD:)

  • in 2001

  • This concert made us all feel better in the audience for all we went thru that day I cant believe anyone would criticize these musicians Grow up you idiots. Or have you forgotten??

  • Omg, I've had this dvd for years, and I never noticed that they played this song on there! :D

  • loving the ovation mandolin

  • Ovation guitars are amazing!

  • All American Band from Buffalo, NY!

    Long live America!

  • I'll always remember seeing this concert of the Goo Goo Dolls on TV. When Iris first came out, it was during a time where I didn't pay close attention to names of bands or artists. I had heard Iris many times on the radio before the NYC concert but never caught who did the song. When I saw them do this on TV, I was like, what a weird band name, but great song! Since then I have learned many more of the Goo Goo Dolls songs and they are my favorite band in the world!

  • They are so good...was this the concert benefit for the fireman and police and other rescue individuals who lost their lives at the World Trade Center? If so, didn't they also perform another song?

  • He sings that song with an unbelievable voice, he really don't need to sing the chorus in high voice and high notes.

    Really amazing.

  • Still sounds unbelievable. Not many artist sing with the same tune at concerts as they do in the studio not matter how old they are or weather they smoke or not. Goo Goo Dolls all day !

  • You know, everyone has a point that he can't hit the high notes anymore, but a musician you can actually bypass this by downtuning the whole song so suit your voice. I don't understand why they don't do that.

  • He wouldn't be able to play the guitar part because the tuning is already on the lowest of low tunings - he'd have to have some ridiculously thick strings on his guitar which would make it cumbersome for other songs.

  • yeah but this is a one off

  • @zillionx A very valid point and they did drop "We Are The Normal" down from to Bb for the Storytellers performance. I think it just has something to do with the fact that "Iris" sounds a bit odd in any key other than D. It could also be that the verses would be too low for him if they were to drop it down. I enjoy the way he lets the audience sing the chorus these days. It shows that he cares that they're out there.

  • maybe he cant hit those notes because he smokes so his voice has gotten depp? idk HES STILL GREAT :) I LOVE THE GOO GOO DOLLS

  • What year is this from?

  • I'm guessing 2001 or 2002. as its for 9/11

  • some of his songs are better suited to his voice change than others- name, for example, sounds better now. a lot of the songs off dizzy, though, ahd high notes that he can't really hit now. it's a compromise...

  • it's amazing that only 3 years after Dizzy Up the Girl came out he's already having trouble hittin those high notes. But still sounded great even w/o ALL the original high notes n there

  • Yeah this sounded great nonetheless. But I think the two problems that impeded John's ability to hit the high notes was the fact that he smokes and from what I read somewhere, between Dizzy and Gutterflower he had to change the way he sang 'cause he used to sing from his throat which I could imagine harming his vocals with all the times they must have performed Iris during the Dizzy tour.

Regardless of that it's still pretty amazing how his voice could deepen and still sound pretty kick-ass.

  • yeah fo sho

  • yeah if he stopped smoking, his voice would get alot better in 6 months, thats how long the body takes to recover, unless my teacher lied to me. They would go on to make alot more albums.
