Kiss at this point was out of gas. Listen to Ace and Peter on the reverb and vocals and it was apparant they needed a break. Peter is around 55 by then, 3 years later he hangs it up for good with Ace gone. He simply looked left and said who the heck is that?
I will NEVER forget the day I bought 'Destroyer'. I was 9 years old, and living in Oklahoma City. I walked 2 miles to the French Market Mall on a Saturday, and paid $6.00 for the album. I had a ritual for my new KISS records everytime I bought one. I'd wait until my parents were both out of the house, and I would crank that shit up as loud as my 1974 stereo( a turntable, an 8-track, and a receiver all in one 3 x 4ft. fake-assed wood housing )could go, and just get an aural overload.
By the time I got to "Do You Love Me", I was out of my mind with pure adrenaline overload. And by the time the song ended, I felt like I was about to rise out of my body. There are a ton of great KISS songs, but this one is truly special. On another note, the most underrated KISS album? Unmasked. Next to 'All American Man', "Is That You" is THE MOST slamming Paul tune I've ever heard.
For those of you who play guitar out there, give this a try: The next time you do a show( and this has to be timed perfectly, and at a point where you know everyone will be looking at you ), whip out the ol' Ace Frehley, album cover of ALIVE! pose with the back side of the guitar turned out front, and I ABSOLUTELY guarantee you that 2 people for every 10 present will have a pants-pissing kinyption fit! lol! Ace Rules.
you were not alone...at the time this came out..i was in junior high and there was no other band...at least not one that mattered...lol i think i had the same stereo!
