  • I wish I played as well as you do.

  • I've never heard the original one ,but I know on which part you have done you own trick every time you raise your eyes with a rascal smile. The song apparently incorporated many turns and twist were used at the time of Scott Joplin, some of them smack of movie BGM.

  • pure joy!!!

  • you play so nice :)

  • This needs to be the new "Chocolate Rain".

  • i first heard this on the CRUMB film

  • Love it brother, keep doing your thing.

  • I listen to this at least 10 times a day--The best rendition heard anywhere. It takes my breath away.

  • 60 people dont know amazing piano playin when they see it

  • Very nice, Tay. This certainly is a terrific piece that deserves more recognition, from one of America's finest composers.

  • This has been my favorite Joplin piece (out of MANY great ones) since I heard the original cast recording of "Treemonisha" about thirty years ago. You do it more than justice, my friend. Keep playin'!

  • This is:

    -Brilliant!

    -Beautiful!

    -Passionate!

    -Perfect!

  • Scott Joplin invented modern music.

  • is it true your lung collapsed?my brother said he seen clip of you with chest drain in yet cant seem to find it.if it true can you send me link

  • Hell, im not even into this stuff and i accidentally came across him in some south park show... looked him up and bam, i was amazed and suprised by his skill. Im the type of person who likes techno music, not songs xD but yeah... hes amazing =)

  • You looked as if you had alot of fun while playing this...

  • wonderful!!! i tried learning this years ago & gave up...this has inspired me to start over again. the song is even more beautiful watching you hitting the keys. thanx again!! How about bumble boogie by jack fina?

  • The keyboard play by play at the top is very distracting. Otherwise a fine job of this tune.

  • Long Live Scott Joplin!

  • Tay Zonday, you will be forgotten soon!

  • @schmetterlink

    SCOTT Joplin

    Not Janis,

    Janis 1970 =Blues/folk

Scott 1917 =Ragtime gospel hymns and spirituals, dance music, plantation songs, syncopated rhythms, blues, and choruses

  • @drewsl90 janis was from the 60s

  • @stewpid Her career started in 66 went solo in 69-70 until death.

Don't correct me with Joplin Douche.

Fxxking retard. Learn to correct people who are wrong. That would be a good start.

  • @drewsl90 Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943October 4, 1970) rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company; she is frequently regarded as ragtimes greatest exponent. Joplin grew up in the town of Texarkana on the Texas-Arkansas border. As a child, she had few early educational opportunities. A German immigrant musician (Julius Weiss) who taught the young Joplin also seems to have played a significant role in the formation of her artistic aspirations.

  • Good job retard you can google.

At least we kow you have that capability to do that simple task. but for the sake of human kind, don't reproduce. Bad for our genepool to mix you in.

  • And by the way this song is still by SCOTT Joplin not Janis.

  • Great job! I loved it.

  • This fits somewhere between "Maple Leaf Rag" and "Me and Bobby McGee" as one of Janis Joplin's finest tunes.

  • Janis? schittylink, please suck my balls!

  • Beautiful! )

  • great as always

  • wow, that really was good!

  • Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! I LOVE this song, and you play it SO WELL! <3

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful Tay... keep up the good work!

  • Hello? This post is not about Janis Joplin, but Scott Joplin. Janis, a woman, was a rock and blues singer. Scott, a man, was a ragtime composer and pianist.

  • Incredible audio reproduction. Absolutely amazing. I don't think I've ever heard a piano reproduced with such fidelity before.

  • 2:33 you look like michael jackson.. nice job ;)

  • You can tell by his expression that he does what he loves, and loves what hes does.

  • @oblivion953 I would have that expression too if i could play remotely as good as him!

  • Cool black guy, Ricecakegoeswhee. COOL black guy.

  • I love your piano interpretations. They are so original and beautifully mastered. I know there's probably copyright issues (although, shouldn't this one be domain free?) but I would love it if you produced a CD.

  • his face while playing is super cute a goofy kinda happiness

  • Your so great!!

I wish I could play so...

And your smile when you play the piano make me happy :D

  • lol at the ending

  • lovely playing its sounds like love in a werd way

  • nice.

  • As bad as all of your other songs are, this was very well played.

  • I LOVE THIS!

    AWESOME!

  • Wonderful job! Excellent work!

  • like a lot of Joplin deceptively simple. good to see some people still appreciate genius.

  • Lets see you play it this well, then we'll see who is making the creepy faces.

  • lolZ!

  • no mp3? :(

    nicely done.

  • it's spelled retarded* you asshat

  • Damn..nice Tay. Wish I could play the piano.

  • Can you put up a download? I love your work.

  • you are truly and artist! Beautiful, just beautiful *applause, applause*

  • fabulous!!!!!!

  • Good job, Tay. Have you ever heard of/tried the Art Vista VSTi pianos?

  • I actually use Akoustik Piano too but I find the software very annoying since it doesn't support half pedaling.

  • I love how he keeps smiling even while hes actually looking at the keyboard!!!

  • May I ask you what piano you use? The company and the model?

  • This was played on a digital piano (a Yamaha P90) . . . but the actual piano sound is a software piano instrument called Native Instruments Acoustic Piano.

  • note perfect!

  • beautiful music

  • i like!

  • i prefer the entertainer

  • great song

  • mp3 pleaSE!!

  • This is a wonderful interpretation!

You have amazing piano skills, and they really show in this and "Canon in Z".

How long have you been playing piano?

    -DJCarte

  • I had no idea you liked Scott Joplin! That's awesome.

  • haven't seen this for a long time - enjoyed it even more this time round.

    Cheers Tay

    Alex.

  • he used the same technique that Chpoin used in his song NOCTURNE op.9 no.2...

  • after ):53 it didn't felt like the title said... A Real Slow Drag, then after it becomes happy... Wtf?

  • Damn... we are going to see a lot of these

  • Wonderful video, Tay! I am a big fan of Scott Joplin!!!

  • i love dis song but why does it have to be so long

  • do you want to know long songs? this isn't long... Tubular Bells is long...

  • I could listen to this all day! Hey could you arrange some R&B music. I prefer Boy II Men, but any soul R&B would be cool.

  • ur amazing xD

  • keep playing! I see u like music :D so u are a good man:D

    Cheers from hungary

  • Awesome!

  • Check out Dope Dod - Double Jeopardy videoclip!!

    new sick grimy hiphop shit!!

  • Playing and learning the piano is such a chore and difficult. I'm glad to see people enjoy playing something that takes so long to master.

    Great verse. :)

  • great video love every second of it

  • Good work! I like how you look completely at ease when playing. I also think it's cool that you rewrite scores creatively. You a clever cat.

  • Though I've already commented on this video i would like to add that despite a few mistakes--This i a really really beautiful rendition of a Real Slow Drag from Scott Joplin's lengendary Opera Treemonisha---Tay you're success is well deserved--and this video shows what a smart guy you are!!! Thanks again for posting this

  • Dude, your money is showing.

There is no way you are this cultured without sick money flowing through your family.

I'm kinda jealous. I know how to roll a joint. I learned it from my mother.

  • The best renditon of this music i've ever heard. I must respectfully disagree with your interpretation of Treemonisha. It was Scott Joplin'd attempt to fight ingorance - remember Zodzetric casting spells in the first act? Joplin hated non-education, and pushed all ragtime composers to learn to write music.

  • I'm just curious: are the keys on that piano weighted?

  • Yes.

  • and thats a problem? i think not, it would be his choice. so why dont you go and berate someone else with your pathetic lowlife comments. ciao

  • dude how many years have you played keyboard? i want to be that good. btw i saw u on lily allen show, AWESOME!

  • keep it up my man, so charm

  • on your chocolate rain song you need more different lyrics

  • Excellent. Well done. Do you know how to hear the original choral version?

  • cool how u got the piano keys on top of the video. good job!

  • Is that a Yamaha?

  • Yes.

  • amazing

  • know i used to be able to do this without knowing it. lawl thanx for showing meh it was a real song!

  • You are an idiot. Research before comment

  • I really liked listening to this again! Tay, you really know the ragtime feeling! Could you do Silver Swan ever? Thanks.

BTW, Silver Swan was the piece discovered on a piano roll done by Joplin for which there was never music published. It's really pretty, too!

  • This is an awesome song. I used to listen to this a lot in 95-96 as a midi file on my 486. I have yet to see the whole Overture from treemonisha on youtube.
