I understand this is intended for kids, but electricity doesn't "take the path of least resistance". It divides inversely proportional among the resistances. So a 1 ohm resistor connected in parrallel with a 100 ohm resistor in a circuit gets a 100 times more current, BUT NOT ALL of the current. But an led has a nonlinear UI-curve so at a low voltage it will conduct only a neglectable amount of current.

@Daxmau5 Water needs electrolytes like salt in order to be conductive, and tap water has other dissolved solids in it as well. Distilled water is not conductive as it contains no electrolytes or other conductive dissolved solids.
