my family have a nice volvo 850 gle -97 and a vw golf. and i have a audi 100 2.0e -90 i lovet it but i have to sell it because i whant to have a other car and can't have two at once=/
Dude i wish you could see the rusty rocker panels on my sisters 2001 PT Cruiser. They are so rotton that you can probably stick your arm in it. As for the Escort its a very nice car. After a few repairs i hope the car pans out for you.
looks like a good buy, i wish they made wagons still, i really like the wagon setup, also i would suggest you oil guard this car, otherwise it won't be rust free anymore! "rust never sleeps" i know all about rust on my truck! thus i am on high alert, to remove it, and prevent it! and stop it,hopefully i can get a video together showing some very budget friendly methods on how to remove rust, and it doesn't involve cutting or welding! and it doesn't involve the battery charger electrolysis method
hey my neighbor has the same escort wagon. his truck was killing him in fuel economy. since my neighbor is a contractor he loaded the escourt with all his tools until the back of the car started to sag! he loves it. its his want to be work truck and its a 5 speed! hey nice car btw! thats in really nice shape! they get great mpg's!
IF it leaks coolant, you better get it fixed pronto (hope it isn't the cylinder head). Overheat it for a short amount of time, and it will need a head gasket repair, i.e. rebuilt cyl head. IMO, they blow head gaskets real easy!
i think modern cars rust so badly in the rocker panels because there a support, thus they are tube like, thus, when salt and water get in there, the salt and water can't get out, thus rust starts, then rot starts, then the rockers are shot! people would be amazed if they routinely washed there car once a week in the winter, and at least once a month, blast a power washer in the rocker panel area underneath,to blast all that crap out, then simply spray the hell out of that area with chain lube oil
GREAT new daily - lucky man Dan... Nice to have a new car that doesn't require too much done to it. You'll be happy with that one! (that was his mom at 4:38 me thinks!)
Not easy to find a '97 with such a pristine body, should be great! There's still a stigma about hatches and wagons, but I've never understood it.

I have 2 cars at once, this and the VW beetle, but the beetle is registered as classic, so it's cheaper to keep it on the road^^

too bad about your VW rusting out :(, guess that's the norm where you are, salted roads in winter?
Never seen a escort like that over here, is it US built? looks similar to the Hyundai Lantra Wagon over here
seen the vid on the plugs too,!, I'd be doing all ignition gear and replacing the oil filter weekly for the next month after that much neglect!.
may just save its life!
Aussie50 2 years ago
Yeah they salt the shit out of the roads, and it's rare to see a car older than 10 years that isn't rusted out!
I haven't checked, but i'm sure it's either US or Canadian built
And I think they did keep up on the oil changes, it doesn't look tooooo bad.. but first thing tomorrow I'm gonna change it and find out for sure!

You should get the Corrosion Free treatment so it won't rust out on you! If you have time to take it out this way hahaa
sweet deal dude. It should be a good car for ya.
the engine light is probably emissions.. maybe O2 sensors.

Oh my God, that's horrific rust on the rocker panels on your Jetta! Why do the rocker panels on modern cars rust away so badly?
Nice Escort! You said that thing was in beautiful condition, and you wern't kidding! A total relic from the '90s hehehe
And good idea with the rock guard too. And a strip of black along the bottom would look cool too.
My friend painted his whole truck in rock guard lol, later he sold it. God help the new owner if they wanna repaint it LOL
