  • nice tune....these guys are good....background vocals seems like a tape.

  • yeah it was 1st the Summit..home of the Houston Rockets..then renamed the Compaq center..then sold to Lakewood church, home of Joel Olsteen...I saw the last concert there in 2003..ZZ Top. the Rockets and a lot of major concerts now play at the Toyota center in Houston.

  • ive seen so many shows at the summit i cant remember them all..but i didnt see this one..oh well..its joel olsteens church now..weird.

  • @kmars21 Really? Thats weird. All I know about the Summit is it hosted this concert, which became a VHS, and Royal Rumble 1989.

  • Thanks for posting. This was my FIRST concert ever....this very show in Houston!

  • That dude bagged Paulina Porizkova - enough said.

  • @fubarTheMagnificent Paper or plastic? lol

  • Even though the quality of the video is less than perfect, you can tell that this was a stellar performance. I mean listen to those backing vocals.

  • Cars Kick Ass

  • The Cars were kick ass!!

  • @tvise1973 They are back, and they still are.

  • @DavyShalom Ok there Davy Shalom. Let me guess, you're Jewish and I'm supposed to either a) hate you or b) feel sorry for you? I don't hate Jewish people nor feel sorry for them in 2011, considering they now control most forms of mainstream media including radio, tv, film and most newspapers/magazines. I respect all races and religions, because me telling them how to live or what to believe is like them telling me how to live or what to believe and that would be wrong.

  • This song has a little to much arena rock in it too be that low in volume, turn it up!

  • 150,000 views. That is truly sad. Lady Gaga has like 85,000,000 views. The idea of talent has really changed. This music rocks. If you disagree, you taste is??????

  • @1cheweey Yeah it's always strange to see classic hit songs like this one with only a fraction of the views of someone today like Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber. That definitely has nothing to do with the quality though. Had YouTube been around back in the 80's when these songs were new, these songs would probably have a billion of views by now. But becuz it's mostly just us "old" timers (35 & up) watching these, they'll never reach those crazy numbers that the new acts do.

  • @vodude That's because the Jewish media bosses at the big record companies are pumping money in to promote the new manufactured music such as Lady gaga or Justin Bieber. I speak the truth and say that with respect to people of all religions and races.

  • @1cheweey sick, non-existent or a little (or lot) of both!

  • Boy I miss the 80's. I am glad they are back with a new album which is the best one I've heard all year!

  • @mattdawg83686

Totally. The soundtrack of our lives!!

  • Ric Ocasek is like Bob Dylan in a way. It's not about their voice, it's how they tell a story with their songs that stays with you a long long time...

  • Ben was gorgeous and Rick was not ugly!!

  • Awesome!! This is the first time I heard this live. A great song is forever...thanks for posting!

  • this song fucken rocks!

  • This song truely is Magic. Pun intended

  • Ric looks like he could use a couple of cheese burgers. Talk about thin!

  • This track was included in the Japanese release of "The Cars-Live 1984/1985, but was omitted(at the last minute) from the U.S.A. release, to the extent that the song was listed on the packaging of the early U.S.A. VHS copies, though the song is not on the tape. I've been offered big money for my Japanese Laserdisc, and I've always said "no". Undoubtedly, if the program ever appears on DVD, they'll screw up and we'll get the edited version...without "Magic".

  • Is any other band this awesome?

  • i love it,weldone cars... <3

  • Can anyone tell me why music like this isn't made anymore? Seriously, is there anyone who doesn't love this?

I just don't get why people want to listen to lip synched garbage instead of real music with a real band singing live.

  • @SuperDrJeckyl because they like new things, and thats all they've got to choose from(in their minds)

  • I went to that show. It was fun, I couldn't hear for 2 hours after.

  • you said it right sweaterbot!

  • The cars: a real class band.

  • love the cars

  • It bears repeating. This is Boston's best band ever.

  • I think I appreciate The Cars more now than I did back then...

As a kid, I just thought they were average

  • wow, jam brings back memories. wow! wish I could go back . . .

  • Greg Hawkes' synth skills made this song magical.

  • @Deokishisu Dead right there

  • Comment removed

  • Did you know him personally? @ladybluluv

  • @ladybluluv wierdo

  • @LukePeetsMusic Not weird (learn how to spell).......real. Isn't it past your bed time? Grow up.

  • Yes, Benjamin definately notices someone in the audience. At 2:14 he mouths "how far can you take it?" with a little smile, and then at 3:46 the charming smile....sigh :) Oh Oh....he's magic!

  • @stargazer477

Wow...you're right. I took some screen shots and lightened them and he is flirting.

  • notice at 3:46 Ben smiles at someone in the audience, must have been having a good time :)

  • perfect performance .

  • Awesome song, from the times when music was actually music! Love it.

  • I was there @ got laid rock on cars

  • this track was my first single ever bought. We're talking 45' vinyl single. This is the first time I've heard them live. They sound great

  • Love the cars!! Too bad Houston is a dump...lol

  • @iloveyourstory --yeah, multiracial "diversity" made it a dump. I agree.

  • @Gravelandart I didn't say anything about race...the place is just ugly and hot.

  • I love this group and song!!!

  • When oh when is this tour going to be released on DVD?

  • man this album and song were huge in the summer of 84. remember a few of my friends went to this houston show but i missed it for some reason. never knew this show was pro shot. sweet!

  • Just my opinion, but I think they should release this DVD as a tribute to Ben Orr and the Panceratic foundation, just like they released the The Cars 1979 live

  • lol what about that "magic" ladybluluv

  • The Cars=Music

    Lil Wayne=Cussing to a beat

  • @ricocasekfan please dont mention shit when im hearing the cars

  • @ricocasekfan True

  • @ricocasekfan so true , so true lol

  • They actually performed in my hometown of Houston, TX the year before I was born (1985) . . I didn't even know that they were performing until I looked up their video right now. lol. I <3 the 80's songs, I may be an 80's baby . . . but I grew up to this in the 90's, that was all I listen to at the time.

  • For me, it was MAGIC the time I met Ben.

  • I've always thought of Ric as looking like a New Wave Dracula, not meant as a dis.

  • i like this song but some other band sang magic they sounded horrable the cars are the best

  • THANK GOD, I WAS BORN IN THE 80s...

    Artaxerxes M. Garcia

    nothing compares 80s music...

  • Me Too!

  • Ric Ocasek has got to have one of the coolest looks in rock history. The whole band has the 80's rock image. Easton and Orr strengthen it. Definately one of the most underrated bands of all time

  • damn they sound good live

  • Guys, it really doesnt matter how te man looks. You could be pretty/ugly,fat/thin,black/white, i mean it really could not matter less, cause when you see your star rockin out it just doesnt matter anymore.

  • Hey look, its sunglasses at night.

  • Ric Ocasek is probably the ugliest man ive ever seen but who gives a shit its about the music

  • Actually many thousands of women would disagree with that comment, including his supermodel wife. But then, he probably wouldn't want to sleep with you either. ; )

  • @caraphyllis

^5 I liked Ric ever since I was 10 yrs old, that was back in 1984!, that was also when I first like The cars

  • sweet shades 8)

  • the Cars are cool

  • lookin' at ben seems to be contagious...he out the sun , and was a rainbow of color & talent.

  • I like Michael's (from Honor Society" voice better... but I like both versions :)

  • they are the same as michael jackson!!!!!

  • In what way? I hope you mean in the way that they are as great as him:)

  • Comment removed

  • noticed it years ago.Vanity won't let me say how many years ..... but yeah I noticed.....

  • i love this song finally i found it, i was looking for it, cause when it played on wizards of waverly place soundtrack copied by the honor society then he said hey that is my song back then lol

  • Great band, great song! They were dull as dishwater live but they're still my all-time favorite band. I saw this tour in '84. Sure miss Ben, he was a unique and superb vocalist, one of the best.

  • i had the volume up all the way up on my laptop..... it was soooo quiet!

  • I wasn't even 10 years old when the Hearbeat city was out, but it definitely feels "my music". Thanks for uploading.

  • These guys songs stood the test of time for sure.

  • >>>> wow ........ still in houston & still have the tickect from this show....... time flys

  • killer !!!! stunnin like my daddy !!

  • I, for one, never spent much time looking at Ric. I was checkin' out Ben.

  • That's true...nothing like listen The Cars and look at Benjamin Orr all the time.....wonderful and hot man....LOVE HIM !!!

  • lookin' at Ben seems to be contagious .... he outshines the sun, and was a rainbow of color & talent.

  • I am not a big Cars fan but Ric Ocasek is a talented dude. In my opinion, this is evidenced more by his production than with the actual music he made with the Cars which is ok but, let's face it, is not exactly mindblowing (just not my cup of tea). Surprisingly, this guy has manned the boards for such seminal and breaking rock, indie, punk, and hardcore acts as Weezer, Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Guided by Voices, and Suicide. Of course, there's also No Doubt but you can't win 'em all...

  • Looks, schmooks. The man had a wonderful voice and The Cars put out some great songs. I have learned slowly over time to never judge by a person's looks, but look to their talents and decency instead.

  • You`re absolutely right!!!! They sounded live awesome!

  • Hey lev1athyn, you're a tool ... you've got a funny way of showing respect... still, you have the right to your opinion. We fans of Ric and The Cars wouldn't have him any other way.

  • I can name a couple off the top of my head ... Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger. Do I get $200?

  • I have to agree Hubert, Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger have faces only a mother could love and both have sold significantly more records than Mr. Ocasek. You should get the $200. LEV1ATHYN, pay the man.

  • Not kidding at all ... if Mick Jagger was ever considered a sex symbol it was based on something completely other than his looks. Liv Tyler is one beautiful woman but as for her dad Steven, sorry man, but dude looks like a lady ... and an ugly one at that. Many of these skinny rock dudes could pass for deranged junkies ... I wouldn't single Ric Ocasek out.

  • RIP Ben Orr. You guys were blasting on my tape deck during my high school days. The best band ever. most of all Loved the "Private affair with the Cars concert my friend won on MTV" Loved the private concert. She loved the Porsche 944 filled to the top with snickers bars. Even though Ben Orr passed away a few years ago, I'd love to see one more live concert. The Cars Rule.

  • The juice will get us all. rebel's flow thick, hail CANADA

  • the blonde back up singer is too cute!

  • I think thats greg hawkes

  • Cool song.

  • i like the guy @ 3:20. i really like him alot!

  • Was my first ever concert, Wang Chung opened up for them..

  • Lucky!

  • I saw this concert and loved every minute of it . I agree with adular

  • Thanx!!!! I envy you, a little. They were really great!!!!

BTW: I`m aludar(=Radula or Radka - my real name) :-)

  • Anyone know what happened to Ben???

  • He died of pancreatic cancer in 2000...Life is too cruel!

  • this concert must have been great

  • I don`t think they looked bored..They weren`t teenagers no more, jumping and screaming on the stage. Serious musicians with lots of talent. To see and hear them play live would be a great experience for me. I miss them so much.

  • I agree. Ian Anderson no longer hops as he used to. David Lee Roth aint the happy clown we all loved anymore. Age is so cruel D:

  • they look board cause there probablly stoned?

  • Board? Board? They'r not board. Check out Ben's expression to some young chick at the front of the audience at the 3.45 min mark. Sometime ago I saw Fleetwood Mac play at the end of their Worls Tour and all they could do was fight each other. Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham!! Nah these guys aren't bored - they are enjoying the lot - it is was the cool 80's look of most bands at that era

  • these guys look bored to be at the concert

  • brings back the good old times - the summer of 84 when everything started off..

  • bring back the full version video of the cars magic.....

  • Prob most boring band to watch . . . but they had a hold on the catchy tunes! Loved them from day 1. Saw em in '79 Candy-O. I was impressed they always did a great job replicating their studio sound. New Wave is VERY difficult to replicate in a stadium.

  • One of their best delivered in a great era of music - the 80's. Not many mention it but Elliott Easton is a fantastic guitarist and David Robinson is a good drummer. Wish they had come to Australia before they split and we lost Ben - RIP

  • This song takes me back to a great era in music. LOVE THE 80'S!!

  • This song was (and probably still is...) my absolute favourite 25 years ago !!!!

  • You gotta love the Cars.

    Awesome Awesome Band!!!

  • why did they have pre-recorded backing vocals and harmonys?...were they very hard to sing?...I can understand some of the synth parts but there were four other guys up there to sing for real.

  • Huh? You can clearly see the band members singing the backing vocals in the video.

  • Frankenstein can really sing.

  • HA! Good one. Like your "strangebeavis" name. Sense of humor I see.

  • Rick had such a peculiar face. But then he married Paulina Porizkova!

  • This video is verry best.

  • I have this whole Houston 1984 concert on dvd and vhs....this song was NOT on it, and I dont recall them playing "Magic" in Seattle on the same tour (August 1984). Anyone remember if this was played each nite on the tour?????

  • I don't have the dvds, but if it ain't on there all I gotta say is wtf?

  • I have that video as well. Magic wasn't on it, although it was listed on the box. Also, the show was broadcast on telly a bit later, and Magic was shown! I was absolutely furious - it's one of my favourite Cars songs.

  • great video

  • клаассссная песня!!!!!!

  • ...

  • the Cars were so listenable...

how do you even pick your fav song of theirs, there was so many.

so so sad that their days are gone.. I want the 80s back dammit

  • Only 1 prob I have with this is god the Cars were such a cool small club band. Maybe 150-200. Summit is too big. Not the same.

  • Awesome! DVinoskey hit right on the nose. Stuck to the real songs yet didn't screw them up like alot of bands do...Excellent!

  • They were Magic in concert, they stuck to the recordings and sounded great. They played Richmond, Va on this tour, it was great. I think Ric is still married to Paulina too, lucky bastid!

  • very true bro. they sound great. ric and orr

  • don't say such things about Ric Ocasek

  • What a great band, and a great song as well.

  • Thats the second place with bands ever.

    1st: A-ha(sorry, i just CAN'T dissagree)

    2nd: The Cars(strong)

3rd: Duran Duran... Sorry for my english

  • I saw the Shake it Up tour in Houston before this and caught the Heartbeat City tour in Austin. Incredible fun band, and a magic mix of vocals when they ensemble.

  • Got that right, Slance1!!

  • A little diff from the original version...but brings so much memory back

  • THIS MUSIC IS TOTALLY FOREVER

  • YEAH!!!

  • HEY ZHONQQUOTONGYI IS THE SAME SHIT

  • Awesome video. Thank you! Way cool.
