  • Great early Talkartoon. I have the original film (16mm) shown above. Very rare.

  • the song that plays first is polly wolly doodle.

  • First Bimbo! God I love YouTube just for the fact that you can't find obscure treasures like this anywhere else,

thanks for sharing it with us.

  • what's the name of the hat the pretty girl's wearing?

  • SIMPFANN, when was the RPM recorded?

  • 1929.

  • First Fleischer cartoon to use grey tones (in the backgrounds and characters).

  • Also the 1st time Bimbo was used since the out of the inkwell series back a year before this and Bimbo went into a 1 year retirement before bringing him back..

  • Bimbo is singing "The St. Louis Blues".

  • Quite right- in fact, the soundtrack from 4:08 consists of a 78 RPM record of "St. Louis Blues" played and sung by Eddie Peabody (which I have in my own collection of 78s, BTW!). There's a story in Leslie Cabarga's book about the Fleischers about how Max Fleischer bought a copy of the record to use in the cartoon, but as he was riding a train back to the studio the railroad was bumpy and the record cracked in his hands, and he had to search four or five record stores to find another copy of it!

  • Thanks for the tip! I know that Fleisher used 78 RPMs for songs in their early Talkartoons. But I thought the song was recorded for this cartoon. Thanks!

Also, I reconized the tune from the Mickey Mouse cartoon, "Blue Rhythm".
