  • I love how the second time John says his name he does a "well, you know" gesture, but then says the whole name. (Well, minus horowitz)

  • I love how Grahm & Jon become more reluctant to say Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-schplenden-schlitter-crasscrenbon-fried-digger-dingle-dangle-dongle-dungle-burstein-von-knacker-thrasher-apple-banger-horowitz-ticolensic- grander-knotty-spelltinkle-grandlich-grumblemeyer-spelterwasser-kurstlich-himbleeisen-bahnwagen-gutenabend-bitte-ein-nürnburger-bratwustle-gerspurten-mitz-weimache-luber-hundsfut-gumberaber-shönedanker-kalbsfleisch-mittler-aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm's name.

  • I LOVE MONTY PYTHON!!! -3!!!

(And deepest condolences for Karl Gambolputty de von auschfern...)

  • This may seem weird, but Eouropean Roalty during the middle ages kept the names of all their relatives, and Pablo Ruise Picasso actually had 22 seperate names.

  • who's playing Karl Gambolputty...?

  • @OlaNaTungee6 Terry Jones.

  • Johann Gambolputty de, Van Ulm! , british humor only!

  • I'm not having a go at Graham, but I think it's unrealitstic that he'd be distracted by the word panties.

  • Liszt, Brahms, Panties...

  • LOL 3:50

  • Hilarious satire of German and their love of really long words. I studied German for several years and one reason it's hard to understand German is that Germans speak very quickly. They talk fast otherwise they'll never survive long enough to make it to the end of their sentence!

  • The greatest name in german baroque music

  • one of the best sketches ever....

you know what......i do live in Ulm

  • @Maddddis neckersulm?

  • @12valvepower1 nope

its "ulm" at the german/bavarian border =)

  • Hahahaha hilarious!

  • Sheer genius. The fact that they were not reading this makes it even more astonishing. I know Cleese spoke fluent German, but I don't know about the rest.

    of ULM... ; )

  • I learned to say the name in 9th grade and 35 years later can still say it. What a waste of brain cells that were assigned that job.

  • Brahms, panties...I'm sorry :D

  • ...and ask you just quickly...

  • Whew!

  • HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH, I just can't stop laughing!! haahah this is the greatest joke in the world!

  • is it bad that I practiced this until I could say it all the way through?

  • @Guyect Yes. But you'll be loved for it anywhere there's a Monty Python fan in the crowd. And that's even more sad. :P

    Seriously though, kudos to you.

  • @Guyect

  • all i understood was knacker -thrasher -apple -banger XD

  • Huh? love this sketch, Rock On!

  • Brilliant!

  • Wow I love Monty Python! LOL

  • wow .. it must have been really hard to learn all this by heart.. =)

  • Not to mention keeping a straight face. Certainly something I have difficulty doing...

  • ;-D ... laughed to tears!!! I`m German too ... HOW FAST! Even difficult to germans ... Pythons ever had something to do with the german language ... seems they like it ... ;-)))

  • they either like it or the language or like laughing at it

i am german too and i understood he wanted a sausage and a good nights sleep in a train

  • @murmurvision They made a 1 hour special completely in german, no dub. You should check it out. Probably on some torrentsite

  • @Chimmyt2 ... Oh, thanks! I`ll see if I can find it!

  • It took 2 days to mezmerize that name but now I can say it as fast as they can

  • my head just exploded like a penguin on a television set

  • i have tried to get this right for like hours now and i can't do it this fast at all....

  • I love this, one of my very favourite MP sketches! It's pure and utter genius from the beginning to the last "Ulm". :D

  • Is it because it's too long?

  • well, now i think that we all know why nobody, except Monty Python, remembered Johann Gambolputty's full name. D:

  • The Outside Guy Missed one! He said Apple-Banger than Ticolensic he never said horowitz at all.

  • The best part is (almost) that they had to remember it flawlessly for the outside part :P

  • there are other skits are much worse than this one. dont sweat it

  • neckersulm germany

  • imagine trying to do that without laughing

  • german barack music

  • @12valvepower1 i don't get the joke...

besides its called baroque, a style of music, art and architecture prevalent from the late 16th century to the early 18th century.

    yours truly

    Buzz Killington

  • hahahaha lol imagine trying to get this right .

  • haha i can

  • Or is it "are geniuses"? Monty Python are geniuses. Doesn't sound right. Genius, Monty Python is... are... Monty Python be geniuses. Wait, Monty Python be genius. Crap...

  • Monty Python is genius!!!

  • when you wonder who invented humor.... :))

  • Im from Germany. It`s just lol how they put the german words in it.

  • I know this name by heart. It's not that hard, just divide it into segments and learn those, then put them together.

Fantastic sketch. Monty Python is the best comedy troupe ever.

  • The Pythons had that entire name memorized, no help was given to remember it!

  • when cleese says it its best. hes just the best, their all funny, but cleese is just an amazingly good actor

  • Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-schplenden-schlitter-crasscrenbon-fried-digger-dangle-dungle-burstein-von-knacker-thrasher-apple-banger-horowitz-ticolensic-grander-knotty-spelltinkle-grandlich-grumblemeyer-spelterwasser-kürstlich-himbleeisen-bahnwagen-gutenabend-bitte-eine-nürnburger-bratwustle-gerspurten-mit-zweimache-luber-hundsfut-gumberaber-shönendanker-kalbsfleisch-mittler-raucher von Hautkopft of Ulm, the world's longest name xD

  • "Why is it that nobody ever remembers the name of Johann Gambolputty?"

I can think of a reason.

  • what is his whole name?

  • read the description

  • Comment removed

  • i have actually a mission to learn that name 8)

  • I half agree . . . but I still find this funny. The name itself is brilliant.

  • I grew up near Ulm, and it's a very nice place - but not that special (Well, Einstein was born there and they have the highest church steeple in the world). I really wonder what made the Pythons choose Ulm as a place name for this sketch...

  • 'Cause it's a mighty silly monosyllabic place for such an immensely polysyllabically named man to grow up in.

  • You ask what? Of course the great baroque musician - Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern -schplenden -schlitter -crasscrenbon -fried -digger -dangle -dungle -burstein -von -knacker -thrasher -apple -banger -horowitz -ticolensic -grander -knotty -spelltinkle -grandlich -grumblemeyer -spelterwasser -kürstlich -himbleeisen -bahnwagen -gutenabend -bitte -eine -nürnburger -bratwustle -gerspurten -mit -zweimache -luber -hundsfut -gumberaber -shönendanker -kalbsfleisch -mittler -raucher von Hautkopft

  • why nobody remember this name?=)))

  • panties. That caught me off guard. Well done!

  • The greatest name in German barokk music. :D

  • Lon Chaney!!!

  • panties...I'm sorry!

  • I wonder how long it took them to get that name perfected like that?

  • Yes, isn't it amazing?

  • By reading xD

  • Not to mention saying it with a straight face. :p

  • it´s funny listening to this as a german^^ most of the words don´t exist but its great

  • people are locusts!

  • was actually waiting for the gravestone:p

  • this is amazing to think how long they took their time to pronounce it on one time.

  • Mind if I correct a few things here ;)

The German words I could decipher were:

    Burgstein von Knacker...

Kürzlich- Himbeer- Eisenbahnwagen- Guten Abend, bitte ein Nürnberger Bratwürstle, gebraten mit zwei mal über mit Zwiebeln (unintelligible) , aber schönen Dank- Kalbsfleisch mit (unintelligible) von Hautkopf of Ulm.

Be glad That John Cleeses German is quite good indeed, if only he would speak louder ;)

  • Most of it is gibberish... ;-)

  • This stuff really does need a public health warning !

I started laughing at the beginning, was gasping for air half way through it and ended up a teary snivelling wreck.

Monty Python certainly have a lot to answer for !!

Will this humour ever be equalled and eclipsed ? I very, very much doubt it. Put it this way, over the last 40 years people have tried and failed miserably. Hardly surprising if you consider the array of talents within that team especially John Cleese who`s a comic genius.

  • Totally and utterly agree. Genius like this rarely comes around. Treasure it and enjoy as the likes of this will never be surpassed!

  • Petarda!

  • I found someone who spelt it all out, so here's his nam in its entirity. Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-schplenden-schlitter-crasscrenbon-fried-digger-dingle-dangle-dongle-dungle-burstein-von-knacker-thrasher-apple-banger-horowitz-ticolensic-grander-knotty-spelltinkle-grandlich-grumblemeyer-spelterwasser-kurstlich-himbleeisen-bahnwagen-gutenabend-bitte-ein-nuernburger-bratwustle-gerspurten-mitz-weimache-luber-hundsfut-gumberaber-shoenendanker-kalbsfleisch-mittler-aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm.

  • We start with an interview with his only surviving relative: Karl....Gambolputty...de von Ausfern-

Haha, so predictable that they'd use the whole name again and again, but it's so funny! xD

  • It's lucky that none of the Ents from 'Lord of the Rings' were in this sketch: we'd have been here all night listening to it.

I also gonna introduce him at school with our course aesthetics, because we are discussing some Baroque composers.

  • that must have been a hard scene for the first actor. All in one take

  • His name is Graham Chapman, so you know, and he is one of the funniest men ever to have lived.

  • yes, I actually know him. Maybe not by name, but still - I am a great fan of Monty Python :)

  • and the funniest man ever to have died. may he rest in peace.
