Wow, what a brilliant Gran, I can't believe she is 92, flying around like a 50 year old and no glasses, apart from the fact that she is great at cooking, well done, thanks for showing us how to make parkin, great inspiration.
I just love your video of you Gran cooking... so comforting!! I enjoy it very often, I live away from my family so watching your Gran makes me remember a wonderful time watching my family cook and prepare meals for everyone. Plus I love to cook to, and plan to make this soon. Thanks Again!!
Great video and the parkin looks really good, but I wish Natalie or her Gran had recapped the ingredients, or preferably put a list up before the closing titles because I really want to make this.
Hi Mum, excellent presentation. Yes, it brings back lots of good memories, snacks after school and bonfire nights! We've made Parkin here in Prince Albert, but it's not quite the same. However, because of the video, we've passed on the recipe and of course a little more of the Lancashire culture - "What is Parkin!" - here, try it! See you soon Mum. Nice idea Natilie, well done.
Does she have any other recipes she would be willing to share? I am looking forward to making these, and would like to see if she has any other "specialty recipes", as the sweet Parkin look very tasty. Also, good job on the filming Natalie...
she did a great job! I love the entire concept of the site (What's cooking Grandma?), and I'm sure she will get a lot of fame very soon...It's nice being able to see the best cooks in the world anytime you like.
Gran Hilda's Parkin Recipe Part 2: Instructions
Mix together oatmeal, flour, spices, salt and warmed treacle.
Melt lard, marg and brown sugar, stirring this into the ingredients with treacle.
Then add milk mixing well. This is quite a wet mixture.
Pour into two lined loaf tins.
Cook 150 degrees for 1hr - 1hr 1/4 - maybe a little longer, depending on oven.

lovely yummy parkin!!!! Well done Gran Hilda.
I really like your kitchen.
If you keep the parkin a few days before eating it, it goes lovely and sticky!!
