First off, all the anime freaks saying DBZ should be on here need to stop it. I dunno how many there have been, but DBZ wasn't that great an intro.

Second, great vid. There are some other intros I would have included (Transformers or Futurama) but this was a solid list. Also, quite startling that there is a major consensus on Digimon being in the top 10 on a couple different lists.

Cardcaptor Sakura and Yugioh both came out at the exact same time. Both manga started in 1996, and both anime started in 1998. In Yugioh, the cards were a game. In Cardcaptor Sakura, each card contained Magic that Sakura accidentally released into the world. Sakura had to hunt each card and reseal the magic. Yugioh played lots of card games with people. How are those plots a rip off of each other?

PS. Cardcaptors SUCKED! "Cardcaptor Sakura" the original unreconstructed series was wonderful!

Anime is a blanket term to refer to all forms of animation from around the world.

If you went to Japan you would never to seldom hear "cartoon" used to refer to animated programs. It'd be called anime. So yes, they are cartoons. They are the Japanese equivalent to cartoons. Just as manga is the equivalent to comic books.

We categorized them as a separate genre here, but in all means they really are the same thing.
