Makes some of us feel old to realize Alex will be 70 on Thursday. I believe he'll become only the second host to helm a daily game show past the age of 70, the other of course being Bob Barker.
I'll never forget: I was watching High Rollers because I was home sick from school, and a contestant had to make a simple choice of what numbers to blank out and she made a block headed decision. Well, Alex Trebek was visibly OBVIOUSLY irritated at her stupidity. It was hilarious. At that point, he became my favorite game show MC. Of course, when I learned that he would be hosting a revived Jeopardy!, I was sooo happy. No one could have done it better than old Alex.
This is a very good theme song. It feels like a nigh on Broadway or Atlantic City. Perfectly fitting in with a game based around dice & gambling & a whole lot of glitz. Heatter & Quiggly have their best theme here; everyone of their other thees are too cheesy & don't fit in with game shows at all. The song has its combonations of all kinds of dinner theatre instruments like the sax & drums, making the beat more catchy. It's a classy theme worthy of 5 stars. High Rollers was a great show.
Amen to that...Wink's version was alright, but it had nothing on the 78-80 one...the set, the theme, the accumulating prizes and Alex's goofy on-air demeanor...it was probably one of the last great game shows of the 70s (that and Card Sharks, which premiered the same day).
One of the classiest game show theme songs ever...nice Las Vegas show ambiance. Loved the opening with Kenny Williams' intro: "This is the game of high stakes...when every answer is a gamble...and any roll can be your last...'High Rollers'...and now here is the man with the action, Alex Trebek!" Loved the on-screen High Rollers logo when the word "High" floated upwards and each of the letters in "Rollers" rolled off the screen!
The soaps are being cut down one by one... time for HIGH ROLLERS to indeed make a comeback!

Anyone got footage from the 1974 season with the original set other than from TV Promos? Would like to see how similar it was to the 1987 series set.

Alex looks like Gabe Kaplan.

Alex is still in good health. I wish they can have him host High Rollers or Concentraition again.

That's a funny story, especially the "visibly upset" part. Too often hosts are cookie cutter and Alex showed some real personality

You really ought to watch the game show hosts week of Jim Perry's Card Sharks. Alex was on there in all his colors from this era

Sounds like it could have been a BBC sitcom theme.

@gamshwfan If they ever revive this game show, they should do it in Vegas.

HIGGGH ROLLERS!!! And now here's the man with the action, Alex Trebek.

It was even cool when, as the numbers came up @ the start of each game, Trebek would try and guess what the "hot column" for that game would be.

Def a better theme than the 80s version, and you gotta love that rockin' guitar section @ 1:35!

This High Rollers of the 70s theme with Trebek rules, forget about the 1987-88 revival, this theme makes the 1987 theme look like child's play!!!

The 1970s High Rollers music was so classy, it's a true classic and far better than the 1987 version!!!

I thought it was a game of high stakes. Where every decision was a gamble, and every move can be your last?

Thanks for the clarification. It's been awhile since I last saw the show.

This music was also used before a commercial break, particularly during the 1978-1980 version on NBC.

Agreed. I wasn't even born until 1983, but this HR theme gives me chills, IT'S AWESOME!!!
