VERY well put together! Nice job. If u could still rate videos id give u 5 stars! In my opinion this was even better than the actual trailer! :) I absolutely love this movie. Liked and Favorited.
The official trailer of this movie sucks big time, compared to how awesome the movie is. Thank you Lathamfilm for this much better trailer with the actual soundtrack from the movie, that finally does the movie justice.
The first time I heard about this movie was on an HBO special,"Behind the Scene of Glory",back in Dec. 1989(a week before wide release in theatres. It was also the first movie that introduced me to 1 of America's best African-American actors,"Denzel Washington".
a truly awe inspiaring epic, how the men of the 54th mostly slaves, nothing to live for, nothing really for them to come back to, but to have a chance a some payback for themselves and their families that treated worse than dogs, then to proove to the world that they can show courage as well as earn the right to breathe same air as everyone else
O man this movie is very sad but very historic, funny, and above all it shows that not only the white man can go 2 war in those times that a black soldier is as good as a white soldier this is on e of my favorite movies n i respect the ppl who made it
I cries not when he died but when they threw him into the trench with the other men. You see the story behind it is that the south said that Robert was such filth that he had to be buried with blacks. Then his father turned it around and said that he would do anything for his troops (like you see in the movie) even die with them (which some commanders might not do). It was this that brought glory to the 54th Massachusetts!
Not that I'm condoning the Union's course of action, but it did break the will of the people w/ in the Confederacy and this led to the end of the Civil War. General William T. Sherman's "destruction" of southern cities brought our country back together. Remember, 600,000 people died in the Civil War. The number would've been higher and the war would've lasted longer if the Union didn't use this "destruction" strategy.
Glory was a real story, stupid. Saving Ryan's Privates was fiction based on a very minor incident during WWII. Saving the real Private Ryan (actually Sgt Fritz Niland) took about 10 minutes. They knew where he was, drove up in a jeep, picked him up and sent him home. Big deal.
I never said it wasn't real you dumbass. I know Saving Private Ryan was fictional and you have no right to insult it by calling it that because my grandfather fought in WWII. I hope you have brothers and they go to war and get killed. Then you'll know how it feels.
You insulted Glory and the 54th Mass. by posting "Haha glory?". My great grandfather served in the Civil War, both of my grandfathers served in World War I, my father served in World War II, my older brother served in Vietnam and I served during Desert Storm. You are an imature child who obviously never served in any conflict. You can't ride on your granfather's WWII coat tails your whole life. Wishing someone gets killed in war proves you know nothing about war at all.
I said Gory not Glory you dumb son of a fuck learn how to read. By the way, I replied to a comment that said glory was gory. I love the film so learn to read ass holes.
Yes, in the film it was the 54th, but later in the war a sister regiment of black troops was raised: the 55th Massachucetts. They fought at the battle of Honey Hill, SC, November 30, 1864, along with the 54th.
Un des plus beaux film que j'ai pue voire avec des acteurs extraordinaires .Mercie a tous c'est hommes, qui a cette epoque la ce sont battue pour la liberter pour leur liberter GLORY
no point getting angry about it, history proved the racists wrong over and over again. now they're irrelevant cretins with nothing better to do than whine 24/7 and imagine enemies everywhere.
no, you are mixing denzel washington and that thomas guy up, denzel washingtons character was real, he got shot twice but carried the flag and ended up surviving, becoming the firt black american to recieve the medal of honor, i have seen his uniform in a museum
We saw this movie in our class and let me tell you i loved it! It was very good. oh and toretsblaby you ain't smart this is a very good country and we ain't worthless. Blacks and whites fought for what they believed in so go to hell
Such sad music, and indeed such a sad time in American history. The entire movie is sad, as you know beforehand that many of those brave men will die in battle
this was a great movie iam from the south that was one of our bases they got killed at and i have nothing to do about that and im sorry they did but they were extremely brave soilders and i hounur them
I live where these men died. And when I may happen to walk upon the beaches and sometimes walk where they marched long ago, my mind wonders to this movie.
They stared certain death straight in the face, and gave their lives fighting for what they believed in. They were not just black men. They were 'real' men.
I was going through my old Civil War magazines, getting ready to throw them away and I came across the "Civil War Times." February 2007 issue. On page 7 by Jeffery D. Wart, "The 54th Massachusetts members hailed from 24 states, including Washington City, West Indies and Africa."
"A quarter of them had been slaves, and a majority listed their occupation as common laborer. Most of the recruits could read and write."
The 55th Massachusetts was raised not long after the 54th Mass.
God.... There were more whites in the regiment than the movie showed, and you're pissed about that? I think they make it clear in the movie that all of the officers were white. Everyone else was black. In the assault on the beach you see many white officers at the lead of the assault. If you just want to hate everything black people did that's fine, but if you want to show your blatant racism and "the south will rise again" mentality, you're doing just fine with that.

It is indeed one of the best movie ever made, it is also one of the few movies about the american civil war, there should come more about the civil war.
this movie, might i say, is probably the best movie ever made. and fabizo, we call this a civil war because it was against the two america's as they would call it back then. the south didn't want to break off from the north, they only wanted their own government, so they could keep their slaves. they never wanted to break off from the north. and either way, that was the past, and we call it what they call it. so basically, deal with you, you wern't there so you don't matter.
An amazing movie (and nice trailer :) ), on an unknown aspect of this tragic war, in my opinion, the real birth of USA.
Why you americans call it "Civil War" ? In french we says "Secession War", because this war was a war of ideologies and different economic interests, but also the result of many previous tensions between North and south (I have read the very good McPherson's book which partly explains this). All the ingredients of a war between two nations.
though the 54th did not take the Fort, their heroin proved to Lincoln that the ex-slaves,and freemen can fight, and were willing to die for full freedom, equality, and country.A Salute to Colonel Robert Shaw, and the 54th.
Couldn't watch this movie too must of an emostional journey. I know its a different film altogeher but when i watched deerhunter it had that similar feeling. Also I never heard of Glory until last month and i am a writer, why is that?
you call your self a writer. a writer of what, i could my self a writer to cause i write essay's. but how could you pan on this movie. a lot of movies are emotional journey's such as saving private ryan. plus this movie has one 3 academe awards
you can tell that the movie was filmed in two differnt locations in the begining at the same battle, the grass is lush and green and then the grass is dark brown and dead!
at the end of this movie i think the person who made the movie tried to show the people watching something. If the black and white people can be buried together why can't they live together
I love this movie. It's like a break from all the romantic films and chick flicks. Matthew Borderick was really good in this movie.
And that letting go of the horse was very symbolic. Some movies have symbolic moments that are hard to understand but I get this movie's right away. Brilliant. (:
I love it when the Colonel gets rid of his horse, like he was demounting himself and becoming part of the common soldiers, and leading them, rather than commanding at the back with the horse (like many of the ranking officers did).
I watched this movie in social studies calss today. It was sooo good!! It taught me a lot about the war. I loved it and I really liked Matthew Broderick in it!! I wanna watch it again!
Thank you for your reply to my comments and I apologise, for my original critique,in which I disparaged your views, with a unsuitable word, which I hope you accept my apology.
Firstly I would like to establish the most profound truth of all about the civil war.
This being Slavery would have died out naturally like the white peasants in fuedal
times, owned by lords, and monastries. Unfortunately though the elite white class of slave owners had the Southern economy, based on slavery.
The Confederacy wouldn't allow slaves to fight in the army for fear of a slave rebellion. They did allow free blacks who lived in the South to fight, though. Union soldiers imprisoned freed slaves that they captured while invading and then forced the freed slaves to fight in the Union army. Given the choice, most slaves would have fought for the Confederacy.
There may be examples of slaves being impressed into labor by the Union, but there are examples to the contrary. During his North Carolina campaign, commmander Ambrose Burnside sent contrabands to New Bern. These contrabands were fed, housed, and paid $8 a month, comparable to the $10 a month wage of United States colored troops. Burnside also hired contrabands to serve as scouts. Many slaves might have served the Confederacy , but I ascribe this to lifelong brainwashing from masters.
Themafia306This is nostalgic CRAP. The reason why the rebels did not use slaves as soldiers is on HISTORIC record that to make a slave a soldier would bring the whole argument and justification for the south to keep black slaves into disrepute. This was primary to the fear of arming slaves. It was racism that could not be denied. There is no historic evidence that the slaves were forced to fight for the Union. As racism was as common in the Union Army. The use of slaves was not due to lack ofmen.
I'm sorry, but the facts say otherwise. Yes, the Confederacy resisted the arming of slaves until March 1865, during which Confederate Congress finally passed a bill that would allow the arming of slaves, but without giving them freedom in return for military service.
The following is historical evidence of the Union forcing slaves to fight:
"In a communique [sic] to Ulysses S. Grant, General John A. Logan noted: 'A major of colored troops is here with his party capturing negroes, with or..
..without their consent....They are being conscripted.' "
Also: From Tennessee, Union General Rousseau to Union General Thomas: "Officers in command of colored troops are in constant habit of pressing all able-bodied slaves into the military service of the U.S."
From Virginia, 1864, General Innis N. Palmer to General Butler: "The negroes will not go voluntarily, so I am obliged to force them...The matter of collecting the colored men for laborers has been one of some difficulty..They must...
..be forced to go,...this may be considered a harsh measure, but...we must not stop at trifles."
February 7, 1865, Lincoln wrote to L-C Glenn operating in Kentucky, that "Complaint is made to me that you are forcing negroes into the military service, and even torturing them."
If you want the references so you can examine them yourself in case you're still deluding yourself into believing that it's not true, let me know and i'll email you the link.
At 00:45 the Regiment has completed it's training and is marching through the Town. The Irish sergeant Major that took them through their basic training is in the crowd and gives the marching column a salute. What is the look that Denzel Washington is giving back when he see's him? Is it respect or not. Is their a message for us there or have I imagined it? Would like to hear the opinions of any Black guys watching this clip especially...
I'm black and what happened was most black soldiers were emancipated slaves that were forced to fight for the Union army in return for their freedom. Many black soldiers did not want to fight for the Union. Personally I would have fought for the Confederacy because they were fighting for the land I would have grown up in. Norths were more racist than Southerners and more Northerners than Southerners owned slaves.
digglyda, I'm black but I'm a woman. I hope my comment is still helpful.
I noticed the salute and the look as well, and though no one can be sure, I read the look as saying, "Ready, Sgt. Major." Tripp has learned and embraced some discipline, and some self-respect, somewhat due to the hated but essential treatment by the Sgt. Major.
A very emotional Civil War film because you actaully get to know some of the soldiers and you tend to get sort of a character relationship with the characters. You don't want to see that they are killed you want to know if they make it back alive or not.
much better than the original apocalyptic trailer... why the hell they didnt use this music?

This was one of the best Civil War movie i have seen It almost made me cry at the end

at the end of this movie i think the person who made the movie tried to show the people watching something. If the black and white people can be buried together why can't they live together
MeWantFoodNow 3 years ago
We've been divided. I wish blacks and whites could finally come together, and learn to stop letting extremists on both sides divide us even further.

i love the movie but hate the end when Shaw dies cuz he runs out for like no freaking reason and get shot like 4 times.
Bloodhaze2121 3 years ago
I was wondering why he did that myself.
Through the movie we definetly see he is not stupid enough to do that.
But I think he did it so that his death would modivate the troops to take the Ft.

Unfortunately though the elite white class of slave owners had the Southern economy, based on slavery.

does anyone know the music on the soundtrack please?

The Confederacy wouldn't allow slaves to fight in the army for fear of a slave rebellion. They did allow free blacks who lived in the South to fight, though. Union soldiers imprisoned freed slaves that they captured while invading and then forced the freed slaves to fight in the Union army. Given the choice, most slaves would have fought for the Confederacy.
themafia306 3 years ago

The use of slaves was not due to lack ofmen.
nbm34 3 years ago

Palmer to General Butler: "The negroes will not go voluntarily, so I am obliged to force them...The matter of collecting the colored men for laborers has been one of some difficulty..They must...
themafia306 3 years ago
..be forced to go,...this may be considered a harsh measure, but...we must not stop at trifles."

Would like to hear the opinions of any Black guys watching this clip especially...
digglyda 3 years ago
I'm black and what happened was most black soldiers were emancipated slaves that were forced to fight for the Union army in return for their freedom. Many black soldiers did not want to fight for the Union. Personally I would have fought for the Confederacy because they were fighting for the land I would have grown up in. Norths were more racist than Southerners and more Northerners than Southerners owned slaves.
themafia306 3 years ago
You are obviously kidding. PS Being black does not give you instant expertise on the opinions of blacks in the Civil War or the Civil War in general.
topgun1863 3 years ago
digglyda, I'm black but I'm a woman.
