I just found out my friend's friend just died.. And even though I never knew her I feel utterly sad. I randomly clicked this song just now and listening to it I feel sad, but I also feel hopeful for the future. Akira's music can bring out so many feelings and inner emotions. The piano and the violin give a feeling of sadness, but the drums have a faint happiness to it. I can't explain it really, it's just beautiful.
@Pixals123 that sounds really sad. but no one 'randomly' clicks a Silent Hill 2 track, you had to have been looking for some music to do with Silent Hill 2. it's not like it's on the front page, and all the related vids are Silent Hill tracks...

Silent Hill music is always amazing. I've looked in ambient music and so far have found nothing quite like this stuff. Nothing seems to capture that lonesome, dreamlike fear of dread and beauty like Silent Hill always can.
@FMAfanFMA lol i wrote a poem using this rhythm as help and the poem matched the scene perfectly. and i wrote it BEFORE i made to this part, i didnt even know this song was in the game at the time.
@zlollylaws Same here. And the game DID have a faint conection to Silent Hill. In Henry's room, theres a picture of the church hung on his wall. When you examine it, Henry states that he took that picture when he visited Silent Hill when he was younger. He had done no sins in his life so the town ignored him. But yes, I liked SH4, had a great storyline in my opinion.
@lolcheerio33 lets just save you from spraining a lobe thinking about it and do both Colm A Colm B situation maybe a Colm C will be envalved but we have no clue what Colm C will be yet
@aaazzzza exactly. I don't think anyone can imagine the personal trauma that James went through after doing that. The horrible feeling of helplessness that he struggled to endure whenever he saw Mary. Out of all the characters in Silent Hill, I think James went through the most pain and sorrow. Heather is a close second.
Depending on the ending you get...James killed her because her pain was too much for her, and him she was lashing out at her only caretaker and the person who loved her. Taking care of an infirm terminally ill person for the remainder of their days is tough on everyone, the ill person, the caretaker. Who takes care of the caretaker? James had no support system, no one to turn to for support, it became too much for him. He wasn't right in what he did, but I know what he went through.
if i remember the game story. Eddie was a releftive of James is darker charater that was james darker side which was the insane side. Angela was wanting to find her mother constanly in torment what has happend to her. that reflects james is deppresion on what he has done. the scary thing is through this game James now what he has done he knows she dead he deinied himself but deep down he knew.
@aarmil02 Or, those characters were also real people who were being forced to confront their own demons and the only one who didn't see crazy shit in the town was Laura because she was an innocent child
@smilyman08 what dont you understand about it? Why the town is plagued by monsters or why is James there in Silent Hill 2? there are so many questions to it but ill help you out as best i can, what is the question that troubles you most?
@rainethesage Actually It's SH5 cause origins and Shattered Memorys are just spin-offs. Homecomeing is actually part of the story, konami says, anyway.
@zhoban I think you are a bit confused, The '06 movie and the '08 game have NOTHING to do with each other. Konami has said this, and so has the game magazines that interviewed Konami. Please do some sort of research before you make yourself look foolish.
@giga0524 Pyramid Head being meaningless, the cults uniforms look exactly like the ones in the movie, the person you are searching for drawing a lot, and there is quite a bit else make me think otherwise. Just because it's not completely based off of the movie, doesn't mean it doesn't derive some of its ideas. Especially when it was an American team.
@zhoban pyramid head wasnt meaningless at all, he was created once again cuz of alex s father s guilt or its probably alex himself wanting to punish his father for the way he treated him as a kid (they both theorys,i still dont know which one of em is true), he wasnt even after u, he was trying to punish the father, which is y he nvr attacks u and disapears after he kills the father, so as giga0524 said, research b4 u say somethin stupid
@RaWrIfAiL thats a different silent hill by a different story team, its a theme but the back ground of alex doesnt have anything to do with James story, again the pyramid head was first made in Silent hill 2 and if you can still read the comment from team Silent from konami Japan, you will see that they made Pyramid head to resembles James confusion and uncontrolable pulse to kill Mary, he came to silent hill to clear his head and face to the truth that he killed mary.

@RaWrIfAiL also im still skeptical to ur theory that every1 he meets is his alter ego, becuz the fact that angela was sexually abused and creating the monster abstract daddy, wouldnt that make her real since she created a monster of her own? i also took in mind that abstract daddy could also represent james and his sexual frustration for mary, but i scrapped that idea because the second person on abstract daddy is small and is screaming in pain,showing it should be representing angela not mary
@RaWrIfAiL everyone he meets at silent hill was supposed to help him realize his past, silent hill is a super natural place and yes angela does represent James hoplessness, because these characters were made for that purpose i dont think Team Silent wanted to put Angela as a victim only, she was thrown there to show how messed up people can be. Same with the fat guy i killed with pyramid heads knife at the under ground butchers place before seeing mary at the hotel.
@loudbrit i believe silent hill should be a place for each individual characters and not a continuation, i think they should stop making it like resident evil with having the characters roll around and do what the original team did and try make the character be a person like us, some one who never shot with a real gun before or someone who beleived a place like silent hill existed, and my opinion is only a theory i hoped that it wouldnt make people aggrivated though sorry if it did.
@RaWrIfAiL lastly i didnt play silent hill 5 because it was not made by team silent and konamis originall team in charge of silent hill saga, after i saw that akira Yamoka (dont know the spelling sorry) and the other guys left, i didnt feel like it was going to be the same, they already screw up pyramid head and they devastated the saga with that movie, so i think the last epic i played was The room (4). I dont think each games should make connections to each other like sequels.

@XELASK82 I love the atmosphere of Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 3 was good to me but I thought the whole continuing the story of the original wasn't that good of an idea. Mainly because it has multiple endings and they are so radically different. Silent Hill 4: The Room wasn't too bad to me, but I also acknowledge the fact that it was never meant to be a Silent Hill game. I hate to admit it but even though there was atmosphere in those games, I hate to admit that atmosphere didn't
@XELASK82 carry over to Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories or Silent Hill: Homecoming. I mean personally, Silent Hill 2 is my favorite game of all time for everything.
@XELASK82 Well I actually REALLY liked silent hill 3, plus the story covering heather had to be finished, and explained. Silent hill 1 was most defiantly a set up for explaining heather's (or I should say cheryl's) story.
@giga0524 To me Silent Hill 3 made all of those Silent Hill endings look pointless. Especially the one where it made it out to be that it was the dream of a dying man. I mean, don't get me wrong I liked Silent Hill 3 for continuing the story but that had always bothered me.
Why is it I am more scared to play this now than back when it was my first time. I was 13 back when I first played it and it was the first SH I ever played. I got through it in about 2 weeks. Now I'm 16 and I can only play it in 5-10 minute portions because I start to feel paranoid.
@AsobiAkiba Probably because back then you did not think much of the game. You may have not focused on it as much. That is what I think. You get more into the game as you understand it more.
Thats true. It wasn't 'til Homecoming when I found out how psychologically in-depth the series was. And then I started to research Silent Hill on the Internet 'til this day. Now I know how Silent Hill works, it kinda creeps me out. Thanks for helping me realise that =]
@AsobiAkiba SH, to me, seems to specialize more in the scary that your mind creates (as Stephen King says, it's best to allow the readers/players to mold something in their mind that is especially terrifying for them) rather than direct horror, which is something you see more in Resident Evil.
Of course, SH has plenty of direct horror. Plenty.
The point is, when you're younger, the more subliminal scares pretty much fly right over your head... now you're older, so you comprehend it better.

@BrianSouvannarath Pyramid Head and Maria are both representations of James' inner struggles and desires. So she can't die unless he himself kills her.
when i listen to this i fell that i'm walking in the middle of Silent Hill pointing my flashlight to every corner to see if there is a monster at that spot ;)
@chert95 Myabe if you gave them the game? If they don't know the context of the songs, how can they be affected by it in the same sense a player is?
When a player hears this song, they remember /that/ scene and subconsciously all the emotions which came with it, but a non-player hears a bitching piano/violin piece, and that's all it is to them. And that in itself isn't a bad thing.
Eh, maybe some people simply don't find music all that emotive. I know people who go crazy about interpreting paintings and sculpture, but honestly cannot percieve how music can be as emotive.
(Seriously though play this game you won't regret I swear)
@Shiruvi After I came across some of the SH music, I watched the entire SH 1 playthrough and I thought it was a great game. I feel like playing some SH games sometime (heard SH 2 was the best) but things keep coming up.
@Shiruvi hehe, that's actually a bitching piano/cello...but either way, I agree with your theory, as a player, I remember that scene and the emotions, and I've heard other SH songs (I've only played SH2), and I can't really know what the song's supposed to mean, but still I like it
@BadAcidVacation mate you didn't get the game at all, Pyramid head isn't the devil and you are James so what you learnt and experienced is what he did too, plot flew right over your head
@cocochanelbode If Silent Hill is real then Pyramid Head was real too. WHat he represents is most likely it is James' hidden awful, deep-respressed thoughts. However, then we find out there are 2. Which one nearly killed you on the Hospital roof top? Which one chased you and "Maria"? This is not part of the plot, trust me I GOT the plot. What I don't get is why there's 2 of them. Killing Eddie had nothing to do with it, that was in self defense, James had no choice.
@BadAcidVacation It is because of Eddie. He did it in self defense, yes, but he still felt guilty for killing a human. The second is the manifestation of that guilt. Rust-red for old blood, crimson-red for new blood. The one on the roof is Mary's of course, since Eddie was alive at the time.
@scotty0695 I guess that makes sense. There are some things in the game I get but some of it seems odd. Is Silent Hill real or is it just a abhorrent manifestation of all the guilt boiling up inside of James' brain? If so, what's with all the dead people and Angela and Laura and Eddie? Is the place real but some of it is James' imagination? I guess a lot of it is subjective. I see it as a real place that draws anyone near who has some feelings of guilt they are repressing.
@BadAcidVacation Laura in the game constantly gets confused when James mentions "the monsters". I think it is because they are in James' mind, a manifestation of guilt, but for Laura, who has no guilt, they appear as something else. Angela was raped by her father, so when you were fighting Abstract Daddy, James saw it as a monster, while she saw it as her father.
@BadAcidVacation Mary talked about Silent Hill in the letter she gave to Laura, but noone ever told her Mary died. She thought the letter meant she was in Silent Hill. At least, I think so.
If I could change 2 things about this game I would make it so there was only ONE pyramid head (he's like Satan, the devil , the worst thing in the entire world. WHY on earth are there 2?) Also, I would add much more character development. I felt like I never really got to know James Sunderland or his thoughts.
@zapz0rd: I try to make it a point to go through the game every few months just to remind myself of how great it was and how beautifully tragic every character is along with their story.
when i listen to this music i see steps..stone cold steps...first step i take , i see monsters...Second step i take, i see delusions...Third step i take, i see lies. Forth step i take, i see denial. Fifth step i take, i feel pain! As the steps descend to the truth, i feel sick.. As i come to terms with the truth, everything around me begins to rot! As well as my feelings. They become empty and i feel no remorse! It decays just like that hotel.
everyone James meets is his alter ego, silent hill basically brought his subconscious thoughts to reality and makes him realize his wrongs and the truth that he killed Mary. Maria is his desire to be with Mary again, Laura is what James and Mary could have had, Hence why Laura sees Mary as a mother figure, The fat guy is James reflection of indecisive thinking, pyramid head is James murderous alter ego which he represses. Angela is James hopelessness. Monsters are part of James twisted resolve.
@dmpisback I believe so too, especially because of those documents telling of what Angela did in the past, and since there're two graves for her and Eddie and they got their own "Silent Hill view" (Angela with fire and such). Laura's gotte be real too since Eddie can actually see her, but they might still symbolize different parts of James as a made-coinsessence if you get what I mean.
@dmpisback and perhaps it just so happens that they display some of the traits in James' subconscious? Silent Hill is funny that way; it really leaves it up to you, the observer, to make your own conclusions. That's why I love em! =D

@loudbrit that makes sense but angela,eddie and laura arent in his subconscious,they are real people.the town creates maria. The town appears differently to each person as a reflection of themselves. They are all there to figure themselves out. For Angela its covered in flames and heat. For James its full of monsters, for Laura its normal etc...The town is used to help the people realise what they have done and helps them get over it.

the game is deliberatly vague, leaving it up to the player to make his own interpretation, thus makin it mor personal. although most people get this idea james is going deeper into his mind uncovering the truth, and fighting his demons, which i agree wit

if i remember the game story. Eddie was a releftive of James is darker charater that was james darker side which was the insane side. Angela was wanting to find her mother constanly in torment what has happend to her. that reflects james is deppresion on what he has done. the scary thing is through this game James now what he has done he knows she dead he deinied himself but deep down he knew.

@RaWrIfAiL thats a different silent hill by a different story team, its a theme but the back ground of alex doesnt have anything to do with James story, again the pyramid head was first made in Silent hill 2 and if you can still read the comment from team Silent from konami Japan, you will see that they made Pyramid head to resembles James confusion and uncontrolable pulse to kill Mary, he came to silent hill to clear his head and face to the truth that he killed mary.

@RaWrIfAiL everyone he meets at silent hill was supposed to help him realize his past, silent hill is a super natural place and yes angela does represent James hoplessness, because these characters were made for that purpose i dont think Team Silent wanted to put Angela as a victim only, she was thrown there to show how messed up people can be. Same with the fat guy i killed with pyramid heads knife at the under ground butchers place before seeing mary at the hotel.

@loudbrit i believe silent hill should be a place for each individual characters and not a continuation, i think they should stop making it like resident evil with having the characters roll around and do what the original team did and try make the character be a person like us, some one who never shot with a real gun before or someone who beleived a place like silent hill existed, and my opinion is only a theory i hoped that it wouldnt make people aggrivated though sorry if it did.

@RaWrIfAiL lastly i didnt play silent hill 5 because it was not made by team silent and konamis originall team in charge of silent hill saga, after i saw that akira Yamoka (dont know the spelling sorry) and the other guys left, i didnt feel like it was going to be the same, they already screw up pyramid head and they devastated the saga with that movie, so i think the last epic i played was The room (4). I dont think each games should make connections to each other like sequels.

Mainly because it has multiple endings and they are so radically different. Silent Hill 4: The Room wasn't too bad to me, but I also acknowledge the fact that it was never meant to be a Silent Hill game. Why is it I am more scared to play this now than back when it was my first time. I was 13 back when I first played it and it was the first SH I ever played. I got through it in about 2 weeks. Now I'm 16 and I can only play it in 5-10 minute portions because I start to feel paranoid.

@AsobiAkiba SH, to me, seems to specialize more in the scary that your mind creates (as Stephen King says, it's best to allow the readers/players to mold something in their mind that is especially terrifying for them) rather than direct horror, which is something you see more in Resident Evil.
Of course, SH has plenty of direct horror. Plenty.
The point is, when you're younger, the more subliminal scares pretty much fly right over your head... now you're older, so you comprehend it better.

When a player hears this song, they remember /that/ scene and subconsciously all the emotions which came with it, but a non-player hears a bitching piano/violin piece, and that's all it is to them. And that in itself isn't a bad thing.

@cocochanelbode If Silent Hill is real then Pyramid Head was real too. WHat he represents is most likely it is James' hidden awful, deep-respressed thoughts. However, then we find out there are 2. Which one nearly killed you on the Hospital roof top? Which one chased you and "Maria"? This is not part of the plot, trust me I GOT the plot. What I don't get is why there's 2 of them. Killing Eddie had nothing to do with it, that was in self defense, James had no choice.

@BadAcidVacation It is because of Eddie. He did it in self defense, yes, but he still felt guilty for killing a human. The second is the manifestation of that guilt. Rust-red for old blood, crimson-red for new blood. The one on the roof is Mary's of course, since Eddie was alive at the time.

Is Silent Hill real or is it just a abhorrent manifestation of all the guilt boiling up inside of James' brain? If so, what's with all the dead people and Angela and Laura and Eddie? Is the place real but some of it is James' imagination? I guess a lot of it is subjective. I see it as a real place that draws anyone near who has some feelings of guilt they are repressing.

@BadAcidVacation Laura in the game constantly gets confused when James mentions "the monsters". I think it is because they are in James' mind, a manifestation of guilt, but for Laura, who has no guilt, they appear as something else. Angela was raped by her father, so when you were fighting Abstract Daddy, James saw it as a monster, while she saw it as her father.

everyone James meets is his alter ego, silent hill basically brought his subconscious thoughts to reality and makes him realize his wrongs and the truth that he killed Mary. Maria is his desire to be with Mary again, Laura is what James and Mary could have had, Hence why Laura sees Mary as a mother figure, The fat guy is James reflection of indecisive thinking, pyramid head is James murderous alter ego which he represses. Angela is James hopelessness. Monsters are part of James twisted resolve.

@dmpisback I believe so too, especially because of those documents telling of what Angela did in the past, and since there're two graves for her and Eddie and they got their own "Silent Hill view" (Angela with fire and such). Laura's gotte be real too since Eddie can actually see her, but they might still symbolize different parts of James as a made-coinsessence if you get what I mean.

They are all there to figure themselves out. For Angela its covered in flames and heat. For James its full of monsters, for Laura its normal etc...The town is used to help the people realise what they have done and helps them get over it.
