But now that we are on each others friends lists we can definitely continue this conversation at another time. Thank you, I really enjoyed having this conversation. • lol look and goofy

  • look at goofy

  • What happened to the Disney characters we all grew up with? These look like the right characters, but where's Donald's hot temper? Goofy's good natured blunders? and Mickey's leveled headedness?

  • Just like every other disney creation, it got wiped out when Pixar came along

  • they're making a new game called epic mickey

epic mickey will bring back mickey's leveled headedness

and goofy's good natured blunders and donald's bad temper are in kingdom hearts

or if you're talking about tv shows only then yeah they should bring back the orignal personality

  • @mastermalonez; It's hidden. Remember, this show is for infants, so they can't show the adult-level humor of year's past. That's where Kingdom Hearts & Epic Mickey (as well as the older shorts) come in.

  • @TherealRNO I understand the reasoning. I just don't get why the very same "childrens cartoons" I watched as a child are now considered inappropriate for children and are considered to have "adult-level" reasoning. When I was my sons age, Mickey, Goofy and Donald scrambled down the bean stock, then cut it down to kill the giant before he could kill them. Now instead of killing the giant they traded a teddy bear so they could get their chicken back and became friends with him.

  • @mastermalone: Well, even in that short film, Willie was not a 100% mean giant. Sure, he got mad at Mickey & friends for trying to free the harp, but that's due to the "Jack & the Beanstalk" plotline. In truth, Willie probably only needed the harp to have someone sing him to sleep, hence why he took her from Happy Valley in the first place! Face it, if even Sesame Street can have a disclaimer saying that its older materials may not be suitable for today's preschoolers, nothing is sacred.

  • @TherealRNO I realize that Willie wasn't super mean in Mickey and Bean stock. But my point is that even something like that is no longer considered to be appropriate. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 32. I grew up on Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry and cartoons like the Smurfs. Somehow what was considered OK back then isn't anymore. In the Smurfs Gargamel wanted to catch the Smurfs because he wanted to eat them. Back then that concept was perfectly ok. I doubt they would do that now.

  • @mastermalone: I am 26. I see your point & agree that years past have gotten away with more. But that's because back then, parents actually talked to their kids about the tough controversial issues before letting them see examples on TV. Now, parents live such a politically correct world, which leads to garbage like MTV's Skins, which depicts high schoolers having sex just to get laid, as opposed to doing it because they love the person they're with, never mind how young the kids are.

  • @TherealRNO Yeah I suppose that's true. That's why I only work part time and for the most part am a stay at home mom. I suppose I'm lucky I'm able to do that. I only work a few hours a day 2 to 3 days a week and my son gets to go to school for those few hours which, in opinion, is the perfect amount of time for a 3 y/o to be in school as opposed to all day long and then I'm able to supplement his education with private tutors and my own involvement.

  • @mastermalone : Just as long as you teach him how life works and show him just, showing why such controversial topics should NOT be feared, because everyone dies sooner or later, never mind that everyone has a belief (even an atheist would be religious, because their disbelief is a religion itself) and everyone has a sexual orientation (homosexuals may be different than heterosexuals in terms of preference, but they are not to be ostracized from society), it's all good.

  • @TherealRNO Well I disagree with you on the atheist part. As an atheist myself I don't see how I could be considered part of a religion, but I'm not going to argue the point I respect the fact that you see it that way. And luckily my son is exposed to a lot of diversity. His god mothers are gay, in fact I'm working on their ceremony as we speak (I'm their officiant) and several of my cousins are gay so he'll never see that as unusual and my husband is black, my son is inter-racial and

  • @mastermalone: You don't believe in God, right? That's atheism. It too, is a religion, because everyone believes in some "faith" or another. Even if you just believe in luck, karma, or whatever it may be, it is still a belief & if my classes in school regarding different cultures have taught me anything, it would be that a belief in some supernatural force (a diety, luck, karma, et al) is still a religion at the end of the day.

  • @TherealRNO I know a lot of atheists consider themselves to be "spiritual" and I suppose a lot of them are and if you look at it that way I suppose that is a religion. But I don't think of myself that way. I don't believe in karma or faith of any kind. I guess I did call myself lucky. But I don't think that that was somehow meant to be it's just the way things worked out. I don't believe in any diety of any kind. I don't believe in meant-to-bes. I think you can take what you get in life

  • @TherealRNO in life and make it work either for or against you but at the end of the day life is controlled by a combination of the circumstances that surround you and how you handle yourself given the circumstances.

  • @mastermalone: Life can be what you make of it, it's true. But sometimes, events occur in life that you have no control over. THAT is fate, karma, spirituality, or whatever. It's there to show you that you can be better than how you are now, currently, saying that nobody is perfect, but that one could still better their status of living. Me, I'd rather believe in a diety, because I'd hate to have death be the final blow & I'd hate to disbelief, finding out that there is a diety when I die.

  • @TherealRNO Yes there are events you can't control, but I don't think it's fate, I think it's just life. It's just not something I believe in, though, again, I respect the fact that you believe in it. I just don't. I've never seen any evidence that points to the existence of a deity or an afterlife. If you have than that's great. But I've yet to see any or hear any explanation that can't be described by other means. Please don't take this the wrong way because I'm not trying to convince ...

  • @mastermalone: Nah. I don't take it the wrong way. And don't think that just because I do believe that I'm trying to convert you. Far from it. I am just stating my views as well, after all.

  • @TherealRNO I'm just trying to explain my side of it is all.

  • @mastermalone: And you're doing a masterful job. In fact, despite being a heterosexual male, I support your causes. I'd rather being among kind, diverse people than with biased, hateful "traditionalists". I mean, just 'cause I see things differently than you, it doesn't mean we can't get along, be civil, or even become friends. In fact, I applaud making friends with people of different cultures and of different outlooks on life, as it shows that people can get along despite differences.

  • @TherealRNO I agree. I guess for me it's just a way of life to be among mixed group. It's how I grew up so it always kind of shocks me when I run into people who have a problem with it. I'm really enjoying this conversation. It's rare that you can discuss these matters with someone who enjoys just talking about it without it turning into an argument.

  • @mastermalone: No problem. I tend to be open-minded about such matters in reality. It's in fiction that I may be just a little biased, though. XD

  • @mastermalone: As long as he's taught that said diversity can be good, things should be smooth sailing. Just be prepared that he might face bias later on, sadly. I mean, Disney has even instituted a Gay Day at its parks, showing that it too, is ahead of many of the public who still fear & misunderstand what's different from them. People fear what they don't understand & they want to eradicate that fear, but they're going about it wrongly. Acceptance is the way to go, IMO.

  • @TherealRNO As far as the inter-race part of it, I don't think he'll have a problem. We live in the San Fernando Valley. I think more of the children our son plays with are bi or inter-racial than not and we don't try to seek them out it's just that most of the couples in the area are mixed couples and those that aren't are usually people who came here from another country. As far as the same sex issues I think the LGBT community is putting up a good fight and eventually they'll prevail. ...

  • @TherealRNO ...After all it's a civil rights issue. There are some states in this country who would outlaw my marriage if you put it to a vote. But you know what? They don't have the right to tell me who I can and can't marry. We just have to make people see that the decision belongs to the individuals and not the masses.

  • @mastermalone: Agreed. But then, what does that mean to the institution of "marriage". It has always been rigidly defined. It's why they're "civil unions" by comparison.

  • @TherealRNO I just don't see it that way. Marriage is a life long commitment made between two people. I don't understand why so many people see same-sex marriage as a threat. I made a commitment to my husband 9 years ago. I love my husband and my son very much. That's never going to change. I don't see how making same sex marriage legal is going to harm my relationship with my husband and son in any way. Why would it?

  • @mastermalone: Agreed. I see no problem with it, personally. Love is love, regardless of the orientation. The issue I have is when people of any orientation go overboard. I mean, if you're going to make-out or do anything "adult", doing it in a public place--no matter the orientation--is going to get stares. Especially people making out at Disneyland, where kids and families flock. I say, if you're going to do that stuff, keep it tame or move to where you're not seen.

  • @TherealRNO ...continued, and my family is Jewish, Catholic and Muslim (although those closest to me are also atheists). So I suppose in that aspect I'm lucky, I don't have to do a lot of work to teach him about diversity he's just exposed. Plus living on the West End of the SFV is filled with diversity in itself. But I do plan to make issues on sex, death and drugs, not so taboo to him. It's part of everyday life and he needs to learn that.

  • "my family is Jewish, Catholic and Muslim"

Hopefully, the different worldviews of life don't cause conflict or if they do, they're solved peacefully. Sort of like how Fraggle Rock & Johnny and the Sprites--despite being "kid's shows"--both showcased inter-species relations in a relationship benefiting all the species therein or how Rugrats had mixed races & mixed faiths living together like an extended family of sorts. XD

  • @TherealRNO My family gets along great with each other. Actually it's kind of funny because the different sides of the family don't really know each other. My mom considers herself an atheist and is of a Catholic family. My dad is a Jewish Atheist and the Muslim side is from my Uncle through marriage to my aunt. He himself is an atheist and his family for the most part lives in Lahore. So they're not all really exposed to each other, it's just that my sister, first cousins, and were born

  • @TherealRNO at the center of that.

  • @mastermalone: Interesting still, nonetheless. My question is, how can they call themselves any specified religion if they're atheist?

  • @mastermalone I know! I hate the fact that no one can do anything to stop them changing them either. I bet Walyt Disney's turning in his grave :'(
