Something obviously went wrong in September 2009. Did they cause Sumatra? Did Zelda fan Susie Sahim take the fall because George Hwang was instructed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin to include the symbolic Triforce symbols? Ask The Three Musketeers of Tesla Motors. Oh wait... they died in Palo Alto and their bodies were burned beyond recognition while the city was in chaos soon after that.
Yakutat Bay, Alaska, USA (1899,September 3 and 10)
The largest vertical surface displacement caused by a single event occurred in this uninhabited region. The second of two earthquakes thrust underwater rocks 47 feet 4 inches (14 meters) above the sea. The Yakutat Glacier, which had been sliding downhill for almost 50 years, suddenly went in the opposite direction. The Hubbard Glacier broke and sent huge ice chunks into the bay. 150 miles away, the Muir Glacier shattered and began to retreat.
You would be saving 100,000 in gas money? That was the most stupid comment ever. Even if you drive 24/7 for 5 years straight you would not spend 100,000 dollars on gas.
Condor1815 probably would say electric motors do waste energy in heat, but they are 70% efficient versus 25% efficient in gasoline internal combustion heat engines.
Yes that's what I mean. Everything that moves gets warm due to friction, but electric motors don't have exothermic chemical reactions; cables, semiconductors and transformators get warm too (except they were superconductors) but not in that way as combustion engines do. You could run a steam engine with the heat of the combustion engines, but it is too heavy in a car so it would only waste more gasoline ;)
10L/100kms for a Diesel that's hardly a huge improvment compared to 14L/100kms for petrol.
Just to clue you in kid on something you OBVIOUSLY have no idea about, a petrol motor is 25% efficient while a diesel is 40% so you'd EXPECT a diesel to use less.
The joke is your local fuel prices force you to all to drive diesel, you (probably ur Parents) pay $2.30/lt where as it's $1.48/lt where I am. So it costs your mum and dad $23/100km while my 'guzzler' uses $20.72/100km worth.
indeed, the price is so high simply because its such a small company making them. a large multinational like gm would make expensive anyways, cuz they'z basterds though
I get 30 mpg, and drive about 60 miles a day. This car costs over $100,000.00. If gas was $5.00 a gallon, it would take me over 27 years to spend $100 Grand in gas. Give me a break, the people need an affordable electric car, not some car that people are trying to get rich off of.
I keep hearing sounds like a kid's slot-car track? you know.. as they are racing around and you pick one up and hold it on the track without the rear wheels touching.. that ol' DC motor noise???
Range of 221mi. operating at 2 cents a mile?! That would make this monster get the equivalent of 135 mpg... Pity there aren't any dealers on the East Coast. :( Considering there's still a waiting list for them, I guess it's only a matter of time. They certainly can't complain of no interest like GM did with its EV-1. I liked that one, too.
Your mileage calcs are probably right. Most gasoline engines are 20% efficient, electric motors 80 to 90%. So if the gas engine can deliver 30 MPG, times 4 for the efficiency differences of the motor would make it 120-140 equivalent MPG. I believe that if they market it this way, and have people put solar panels on their houses to charge the cars while parked, it's basically no cost as far as energy is concerned. Sounds interesting, and should be the wave of the future.
EV: 105wh/km = 10.5kw/hr per 100 km = $1.05 per 100km (@ $0.10 kw/hr)
Petrol with LESS performance: 14 litre /100km x $1.40 a litre = $20.00 per 100km
Close enough to 1/20th the energy cost!(depending on what local fuel prices are where you live) In UK fuel is closer to $2.50 /litre so you're looking at 1/35th the energy cost.
x20-x35 is such a monstrous improvement, once the general public become aware there'll be no stopping the shift to EV.
It's a Holden Commodore (the biggest selling car in Australia) with a 5.7lt LS1 with 255kw / 350 hp. It's a standard large 4 door sedan which weighs 1600kg. 14 litres per 100km is average for this sized car and is alot better than any SUV!
I don't drive an SUV and NO-ONE was talking about diesels AT ALL!
Your parents drive a diesel SUV do they? Low truck gearing and as aerodynamic as a brick shithouse! super fuel efficent I'm sure! By any other name it's a personal TRUCK. Get a car mate!
well this brick with wheels is more fuel efficient than your super duper holden, that was my only point. but of course you had to distort my every word.

GM actually hated the EV-1 as at that time GM was having an illicit affair with the oil company....but i've heard they split and GM got NOTHING !

Well GM is still pushing the ICE in EREVs aka The Volt. See conserving the parts and service business model is what has always been at stakes for GM.

It's not about buying 100,000 dollar cars.
It's about showing the American public that electric car technology is viable.
I still meet people who think there can't be big, dumb, powerful electric pickup trucks.
It showcases the absolute sloth of the American car companies.
