  • Happy Birthday to Richard Barbieri on Nov 30th

Happy Birthday to Steve Jansen on Dec 1st

Peace and Love and thanks for continuing to enrich our world with your music.

  • And yes, even though Steve will probably always be more comfortable when he is safely ensconced behind his drum kit, when he rises to the challenge of singing, he is more than up to the task - I love his voice, too! Have the "Batt Brothers" ever sung together? Perhaps I should listen to some Nine Horses material to find out! :)

  • @triciapowers No, they've never sung together :-( and I totally agree with you on Steve's voice. And please please get the Nine Horses albums... I promise you will want to listen to them over and over, just impossible to choose the best track, they are all sublime :-)

  • Great tribute vid, 23sugarcane! I thought I had seen all the Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri photos there were to see, but you have found some really unique ones! Have to finally break down and get "Catch The Fall" on CD...loved it when I first heard it nearly 25 years ago, and it's still one of my all time favorites! Even more than Rain Tree Crow, I think that "CTF" is an indication of what else Japan could have done as a band if they had kept going through the '80s.

  • @triciapowers Cheers for such a kind comment! I have loads more photos of the boys and would love to upload more videos, but time in short supply :-( By the way, I absolutely adore RTC, one of my faves of all times and listen to it forever.

  • I used to play the 12" vinyl to death back when. Still fat sounding and the percussion arrangement is a masterpiece. the instrumental out is just so nasty and cooking. love it!! Great Post.

  • @richmoves What a fantastic description of the sound of those instruments... and so accurate :-) It really is an amazing sound... and thanks for your kind comment on the video also.

  • Excellent taste in music. I have the album and cd, got it from Melrose Ave.(Bleeker's Bob) in LA. I love the music of Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and of course Jansen's bro, David Sylvian. I actually named my son, Sylvian, I guess you could say that I was pretty obsessed with this kind of music, haha. I almost forgot about Ruichi Sakamoto.

  • He does sound like David but looks an awful lot better and has turned out to be a lot saner than Dave. Take it from someone who once was in the know and ask Debi!

  • @Maxiclaudi By Debi, do you mean Debi Zornes?

  • @triciapowers Yes, we used to 'hang' out together in Stanhope Gardens in 1983.

  • @Maxiclaudi I had a hunch that it was she that you were referring to. :) I don't know her from Eve, of course... However, I am nearly finished reading Mick Karn's autobiography, and she is mentioned quite often in it. Her story seems to be the rare case of a fan who becomes a friend, and then evolves into a important business ally for a performer. From the tone set in the book, I get the impression that Mick felt very lucky to have her support and influence in his life. :)

  • Thanks Sugarcane, for putting together this great tribute to Steve and Richard's collaboration as The Dolphin Brothers. This is one of my favourite "poppy" tracks of their 1987 album, next to the more solemn song "My Winter". It's amazing where you retrieved all the unique photos! By the way, I agree with your comment of about a month ago on Steve's singing . It's quite suprising to me that he didn't pursue singing!

  • @DionSebastian Thank you for your kind comment; it means a lot. I'm not sure why Steve didn't pursue singing, but it could be that, as a vocalist, he would need to be the frontman and, being so shy, it would make him uncomfortable. It could also be that soon after the release of this album (1987), he and Richard went on tour with David (1988) and then other projects came along. Besides, I believe that his real passion is playing percussion and composing lovely music... Your channel is beautiful!

  • I love the Dolphin Brothers, but lets be honest. Jansen sings like he has constant constipation. Thanks for posting anyway!! ;D

  • @ariesscorpiorising You're welcome! Your comment gave me a good laugh :-) ,although I have to disagree with you on Jansen's singing abilities. Considering that he never sang before, his voice is tuneful, melodious and very very pleasant - quite surprising really, specially for a drummer!

  • @23sugarcane

he sounds almost exactly like his brother during the bridge and chorus.

  • I love it but have never heard the album before

  • @mutation999 You won't be disappointed if you get the album. All tracks are lovely :-)

  • thumbs up

  • @guitarpromoter Cheers!
