When you look at this video, look for the MP on the left side of the screen in the helmet from 4:32 to 4:35 as Bob Hope is getting off the helicopter. That's my Dad! He got his 2 seconds of fame back in 1966.
My dad was with Alpha 1/5 Cav May 1968 to May 1969. Capt Davidson was his CO. He processed through An Khe, went to Quang Tri then eventually to Tay Ninh during his tour. Was curious if anyone remembers him, email me if you were in his unit, will give name, etc...
I came through the 90th Replacement Battalion, An Khe and went to Camp Evans. Was in the field there for just a week or so before we moved to Phouc Vinh. I was M-60 gunner with A -Co, 2/5th. After a time in Phouc Vinh we went to Quan Loi then eventually to Tay Ninh to run interdiction on the Mustang trail.

Our country was occupied by Americans and Vietnamese had to live in very bad conditional for a long time. we fought to the last and as you can see, we had won. Justice always wins. The territory of Vietnam belongs to Vietnamese, and we're proud of our country.

Nice video...hey smfd314 or blp1054, my dad worked at the POL depot in 65-66 and was trying to get info on a Robert James Hardesty who was also a fuel clerk at the time. He was KIA at LZ Hammond in late 65 or early 66. Did anyone know him or have any info ? Thanks for posting the vid!
My step-dad William Franklin "Frank" Russ was in the 1st Cavalry from 65-67 as a fuel clerk for the 229th. He show me bunch of pics of An Khe including his quarters when they finally getting a hard wood floor made of 105mm howitzer caseings. I like this video, it gives me a better picture what my dads home was like while there.
@blp1054 I was with 11th Air Assault Div at Benning May 63 and in Jul 64 when changed to 1st Air Cav. My part of Div left Savannah Jul-Aug 65 for Viet Nam. I put 4 videos on You Tube about two wks ago you might want to see. ODSoldier.
Amazing video. Thanks a lot. Air Cav was a great unit. I was there in March 1970 until Nov.70. Was with Div Tac Oper Center-4th Inf Div. We moved from Pleiku and took over An Khe from the 1st Air Cav. We had a total of 450 helicopters at An Khe when the Air Cav left. Largest helipad in the world per Guiness world book. No trees left then. No tents. All great built buildings and barracks. And the generals house. Wish they had a film of the Air Cav emblem on Hong Cong mountain.
Thank you for posting this. I adopted CWO Jesse D. Phelps MIA 65', he and the crew of flt# 808, were last seen alive leaving Ah Khe to deliver weapons and chow to a forward unit. RIP Crew of #808

I served with the 11th Aviation Group 1st Air Cavalry Division from An Khe to
Bon Song, and up to camp Evans from march 1967-1968. One of the best units,
and Division I ever served in. Thank you for posting this.
