when i saw popover i was like seriously did you just use your last name.... but you didn't ;p. people on my street are pretty much retarded (easy passwords).... its very sad
so im pretty sure i have cable but according to this video i have DSL i never had to change anything and i still got internet will i have any prioblems if i dont change the ip?
@nirmitsu As more cable companies introduce VOIP, they are also introducing modems that are secretly routers. I've started telling non-techs to just go ahead and change the number on that third octet. It won't likely hurt anything even if it is not needed. I really need to remake this video to incorporate that advice.
for some \reason my firefox won't connect to the internet I was useing Opra yesterday and that one won't connect now is it something to with my routor I has never happened before so I don't think it is but I'm just confused. I have tried reinstalling them and I restated my Routor and motom but that didn't work.
@loggerhead121 Exactly. If both are running DHCP and passing out addresses in the same range, the WRT's routing table gets messed up. I could tell you to turn off DHCP, but most folks don't want a bunch of technical jargon. They want click here, put that in, click there, done. It works. Never look at it again.
Thanks Man u saved me, I bought a Linkys wireless WRTN160N and had trouble connecting to the internet I called Customer Service and they didnt help, just when I was about to throw it away I looked up in youtube found these videos, I followed directions, It worked had it hooked up in 10min, the problem was they never said to change the IP # on the router, like u changed it to 45, anyway thanks again very helpfull:)
i changed the local ip address you said to change, but when i go back and check the ip config again, both the IP4 and the Default Gateway IP is the same except now they are the number i changed it into [45]...HELP?
when i try to connect wirelessly it says connected to accesspoint but internet not found
When you change the number on that main page and then run ipconfig, your gateway should be the number that you put into that screen. After all, it is your "gateway" to the internet. The first three digits of the IP shouldn't match those on the status tab. If you get a 169 address anywhere, that's bad.
there is an option on that main page to disable DHCP. I would do all the other settings and then try to disable DHCP. Reboot your computer. See if that fixes it. Other than that, I'm stumped.
Do you still need to change the network number if you are installing the router for a laptop and not a desktop. I'm pretty sure I have dsl. I just can't get my router and my computer to work together.
You'd still have to change it. You have two networks. One for each side of the router. The router has dual citizenship. If uses the same range of numbers on both networks, it will get confused and won't be able to distinguish between the two. Changing the range on one of them allows it to differentiate and find the way to the internet.
hey i need help i have att internet which im pretty sure is dsl , but when i connect my modem to my router and my router to my computer the internet gets disconnected, is this the blue wire not being able to trasfer the internet or is it something else
I'm not a gamer. I'm not really sure how to solve that. If it were a computer, I'd just wire in then copy it from the router and paste it into the field asking for the WEP key. Can you copy and paste with a PS3? Other than that, I'm not sure how to assist you.
Also you should use WPA if you can. WEP can be hacked in about ten minutes.
Maybe you should go to port forwarding allow your gaming ports to open. For example some games have specific ports that needs to be opened. I'm pretty sure ps3 and xbox also needs to have specific ports opened for it.
i called linksys for help and they said i should pay them $40 for 6 months of tech support or buy a new router for $30 and get free tech support...You're my hero.

Hello,
How do I change the admin username and login so that no one can change my wireless passphrase?
ScopedOUT2 1 year ago
@ScopedOUT2 I don't think you can change the login, but you can change the password on the administration tab.

On the first page of the router change
192.168.1.1
to
192.168.2.1
Then save settings at the bottom.
You may need to unplug it for a second afterwards.
