Thanks from Steven Paul Perry, the guy who is playing guitar behind John. I don't have a copy of this show. I do remember my amp making some noise right before we started and Letterman saying
"This one's for... mrs Hiatt". Or indeed for any woman of whom you can say us men don't deserve. I've always loved this song. If there's one Hiatt song I'd love to sing, it's this one. I'ts direct and honest. This one's right from the heart. Yeah!
After 20 years still one of my favourite songs! I bought the "Stolen Moments"-LP on a visit to NYC in 1990. Always astonishing to see what great musicians appeare(d) on Late Night shows in the US - no comparision to TV shows in Germany ...
Wow, what a fantastic version of a fabulous song. I too would like to know the name of the lead guitarist with the PRS, I just love how uses a chord fretting to play lead, especially the outro is world class.
My wife and I went to a Hiatt concert at a fairly small Austin venue many years ago, standing space only with no chairs. We arrived early and grabbed a spot where we could lean on the stage about 8 feet from where Hiatt would be performing. As he sang the line "I've seen an angel or two before, but I never asked on to be my wife" he stared straight at us. It was a pretty cool stolen moment.
STOLEN MOMENTS, such a great album..real fine songwriter and singer, one of the best american musician in the history of rock'n roll. i dream that one day i will have the chance to see him playin live here in italy. hiatt, seger, petty, mellencamp, nobody came here to play live, and this is very sad.
Man his band sounds killer on this too!! That guy with the PRS is just smoking and the strat mixes well and that bass...I miss this stuff. Do you know who he's using here in the band? And I'm guessing this is late 80s/early 90s. He still writes one hell of a song
The band is Paul Schaffer (keys), Anton Figg (drums), Will Lee (bass) and Sid McGinnis guitar) (i.e. The Late Night Band). You're right they kicked major booty. The guitar player playing the PRS is from Nashville I think.
This is a top notch vocal by John the cat can sing and you don't get any better writing then Ive met an angel or two before but never asked one to be my wife.

Definitely one of the best "takes" of any band playing on Letterman.....Even Dave is more animate than he usually is towards bands.
Excellent.

Becouse John Hiatt is a fellow Indiana boy like Letterman. They are both from Indianapolis...

It's his voice, his soul, his spirit ...
The man is special.
He and a handful (Jackson Browne, Bryan Adams,
Henley, Lovett, Jimmy Dale Gilmore) are in that non commercial, soulful place together) And all with unique voices.
Are we not lucky?
