Irish culture is so beautiful I don't understand why we are always called drunk Irish people cause not just Irish people get drunk and also it's part of culture a way to calm the nerves after a long day or to celebrate something good that happened my family on my dads side are Irish and I'm happy to be Irish cause of there amazing culture so to all u people out there that say were always drunk look around not just Irish people get drunk
irish dance or river dance or whatever it's called just amazes me every time i watch it.... the way they move, the steps, the way they look, ...it's just awesome
@SacredDancerBHG tap shoes are also suitably designed for going up on points. They have a little flat surface on the points and the shoe is flexible in the middle :D
I got to see this when they came to Cleveland for the last time. I have been wanting to see this since my Music teacher in 4th grade had us watch this. Since then, I been wanting to learn how to do this dance, (Came out with a sprained ankle when I tried on my own ha ha) and wanted to see them. It took years to finally go, but it was so worth it.
Michael wanted control over what he felt he had created and to be fair his interval act in 1994 sparked off the craze so fair play to him but there are many other acts in the show such as the musicians, the singers, the flamenco dancers and the russian dancers which he didnt create from scratch so the producers who refused to give him control had a point too. Lord of the Dance is amazing too though and he's a fantastic dancer and both shows have done so well :)
Ha ha they do, but they also have to have so much concentration on their moves, as you can see everyone is in line, one mishap it might ruined parts of the show, plus, the shoes must be a bit uncomfortable and slippery on stage.
I'm so sick of people calling the Irish drunk. Yeah, drinking is part of culture (at least for my Irish American family), I'll admit. But we are way much more than that! We have so much art and dance and music, and a rich heritage that goes back over a thousand years. No drunk can dance like that.
I agree with you, I am only 50 percent Irish, but yet everyone including ones who do not know me, said I will be a drunken Irish when I turn 21 next year. So many people around me only view the Irish as drunks, yet when it comes down to it, Germans drink, so do American (hell I bet almost all America drinks.") But no, they only view Irish as a drunk, and not a beautiful cutler, and their beautiful lands.
@reallyfullofmyself I'm only a tiny bit Irish, and I adore Irish music - it makes me feel like flying. It can be exciting or heartfelt or even a bit mystical. It sounds like a cheesy tourism campaign, but Ireland doesn't have to be in your blood to be in your soul. :)
@princesskyrie doesn't sound cheesy at all...who knows why we feel closeness to some certain culture and customs and music from another place then our own..?..maybe we lived there in a past life...or maybe it is some rememberence in genes from ancestors we don't even know about..in my case it is not that far fetched as i am Viking origin..they had a lot to do with Celts in their times.. Whatever it is, it just "wakes up" some inexplicable longing in me to hear Irish music.
Riverdance took Irish folk dance and transformed it into something vibrant and sexy, and helped put Ireland back on the map when it won the Eurovision contest and went on to wow the rest of the world. I've seen the show live 4 times and was mesmerized each time. Why would anyone make a generalization that because a dancer is male that he is gay?? Come on, less narrow-minded, chauvinistic remarks and more appreciation for these amazingly talented individuals, male or female, gay or straight.
anything involving riverdance or lord of the dance the music always sends shivers down my spine. and i sometimes get emotional for some reason. it a beatuiful piece of music that makes your spirit soar. i would love to see this live. but aint got the money.
its opinions like that, that make it really hard for us to get guys to dance, its not a girl's dance, its for everyone. you don't have to be irish, you don't have to be a girl. . there are a lot of dances that would be better with boys. so don't be dissing the irish dancer boys, they are awesome.
Ah, this video makes me want to cry. Not in happyness, but in horror. I grew up with the 1996 version from Radio City with Jean Butler and Colin Dunne, and my god something went horribly wrong. The girls are flipping around like theres no tomorrow and the lead, he takes too much after Michael Flatley, who danced for himself and didn't care about anyone else. What happened to this production people??
awe-inspiring! mesmerizing music hammering open one’s ego with every tap of their feet. Immortal contribution from the Irish spirit & should be passed down from generation to generation. Though much criticized, this troupe deserves to be ranked with the legendary 1994-96 Riverdance performers led by Flatley & Dunne. actually prefer de Gallaí's upper body movements – forceful swings like Spanish bullfighters & Chinese martial artists. its music also played by 12Girls using oriental instruments.
look at the background that's not supposed to be the sun . its symbolizes a pyramid with the all seeing eye of horus on top and if you watch from 4.10 you will see how the masonic symbol is formed the artists have no idea its very sad the music /hollywood industry is riddled with occult followers . think i'm mad do some digging you will open a can of worms . watch the industry exposed.
Yeah. You're pretty mad. In fact, I'm pretty sure you're out of your blasted mind.
That's not a pyramid. That's not the "all seeing eye" of horus or any other such rubbish. It's the sun. And the sun's rays. It's symbolic of the dawn of the earth. But no, its not "masonic." I was in this show, I should know. It didn't come from Hollywood or America. It's simply a rememberance of our history.

Not only because of that, there was a financial problem where Michael Flatley did not accept. Luckily came then Colin Dunne, what you wrote I accept 100%!
@celticspirits5 It was not actually about finance. Michael had done most of the choreography, and wanted to keep some control over the dances and steps he had created. This was not acceptable to the management and he was fired. He then created Lord of the Dance.
@boywonder001aus Where is your head? Take a wrong turn and go up your ass? Riverdance was stolen from Michael Flatley. He was the orriginal owner of this obviously and then had it stolen from him. Thats why he went and formed Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames.

@3rosesred Of course the Irish aren't purely Irish, if the condition is that they have to be direct descendants from the Gaels. In that case, I can't think of many countries that are actually 'pure'. Take the US, which is a mix of Native American, English, French, German, Irish, Scottish, Dutch, Spanish, African and many other immigrant groups. Even the Vikings had a settlement in America! Does that mean an American can't be considered a pure American, unless he's Native American? Of course not.
@histre101 yes i know nut if my great great granda was american i wouldnt classify myself as american if you get my drift. its not that i get annoyed when peolple say they have irish heritage, but for example my sister went to america for a year and some one said they were irish my sister goes waht part and they said oh well my graet great great granny is irish. doesnt mean your irish
hi i just saw the video of river dance in dublin in point theatre its brill i like this video tho reel around the sun is also my fave song too id like to kno how all those girls twist their heads round like that then start to dance i like this song and video
At 1:36 -- that girl is on point. I didn't know you could do that in this tradition -- has she got a special shoe for that, or is the end just padded inside?
@manthasagittarius Looks like they're just normal hard shoes - hard shoe does use some pointe work (ends of toes are usually filed flat) though as far as I know soft shoe doesn't.
This one is repetitive compared to the original version imho. But great nonetheless.
mcdan84 5 months ago
I really, REALLY wish I could find the mp3 for this and purchase it. Seriously. The versions I keep finding are not this version.
I specifically want this version because, as I child, I tapped a rendition of Riverdance to this song. So much fun... :-)

they look better in consert and i'll know
895dragon 1 year ago
@3rosesred Of course the Irish aren't purely Irish, if the condition is that they have to be direct descendants from the Gaels. In that case, I can't think of many countries that are actually 'pure'. Take the US, which is a mix of Native American, English, French, German, Irish, Scottish, Dutch, Spanish, African and many other immigrant groups. Even the Vikings had a settlement in America! Does that mean an American can't be considered a pure American, unless he's Native American? Of course not.

At 1:36 -- that girl is on point. I didn't know you could do that in this tradition -- has she got a special shoe for that, or is the end just padded inside?
manthasagittarius 1 year ago
@manthasagittarius Looks like they're just normal hard shoes - hard shoe does use some pointe work (ends of toes are usually filed flat) though as far as I know soft shoe doesn't.
