Chris Sharrock has been in more bands than someone whose been in LOADS of bands...TOP drummer though.LOVE ya Chris. Best with the Iccies though Chris.
Sad song...the lyrics came true in the 90s. "The clocks will all run backwards" = the retro trend, "Sheep will have 2 heads" = Dolly the cloned sheep, "Thursday night blah blah Tuesday night instead" = my band being forced to play the cheap nights of the week and we covered this song. Oh the irony.
Speed up the tempo, change the arrangement and you've got the Stones "Sympathy for the Devil" - even the wooo, woooos at the end! Seriously - give it a listen. Very similar.
I recently came across my Goodbye Jumbo tape from the 90s! It has been in a box with some stuff from my college days--memories-- So I've been on here listening to World Party again. Love Street and Ain't Gonna Come Till I'm Ready are really special to me and always will be. This is beautifully timeless music. I love them. Thanks World Party!
I remember seeing this band on SNL and I noticed something odd: The lead singer was playing left handed but he didn't reverse the strings. The small string was on top and the large string was on the bottom. It was like he just flipped the guitar over and went from there. Has anybody else ever seen anything like that?
I commented on that on another post. Your 100% right. How many people do that! Even Jimi Hendrix didn't do that. Rare indeed. When everything is said & done, I have to say 'Way Down' is my fav., although there are many more.
I loved this song back in the day! Still do. When I was a teenager, most girls fancied New Kids On the Block. I, on the other hand fancied Karl Wallinger! :-)
all the members are faux members. karl wallinger (the singer) plays all of the instruments on the records & the rest are session/ touring musicians. he was also an environmentalist before it was cool.
not necessarily true...the piano player is Guy Chambers who in fact was in WP and went on to become Robbie Robertson's hit songwriter/collaborator.... I saw WP lots live back in the day, great band, talented as hell they all were...esp Karl...good times!
Yes, I do/did!! Ooops.... As much as I admire Guy's (quite lucrative) work with RW, I miss the old World Party... what a great band they were to see, such good songcrafting and musicianship. Karl was one of those fleeting geniuses.... the Waterboys too were at their best with him in the band. Oh sigh....
LOL, the blonde is way too distracting. I'd be pissed off, to be honest if my record label thought my band and tunes, needed a sexy faux band member. Song is great.
The shaggable blonde was Patsy, his au-pair (or so Karl claimed). She was also involved in the tour for the album. It was more to do with Karl having a laugh by sticking in some dolly bird in kinky boots into the act after he'd just got into trouble over some TV remark he'd made about Flake bars that Cadbury's had taken exception to. Karl's a loony of the old school (as Geldof and The Blockheads will testify) - pity Mike Scott took himself so seriously he could never get the joke...
Love this song, it's ironic though because "Inside my future I, what I see just makes me cry, I'm way down now" Not too far after that he had a problem with his brain or something to that effect.
i watch 120 minutes on VH1 classic and they show a different video for this song. does anybody know that video? Its like in a theatre in front of a crowd, but I don't think its live
cont...Your companion on this journey of the mind is the greenish-yellow glow of a stereo tuner and the familiar, comforting tones of this song, just loud enough for you to hear and just quiet enough for you to fall asleep without having to get out of bed to turn it off.

It's an early Spring morning, the cheap sliding glass windows of your dorm room are open just enough to smell the sweetness of the coming Summer, with all its promises of romance, swimming and spontaneous Ice cream cones consumed at roadside shops with huge, plastic cows or soft serve swirls, beckoning your warm tongue to lick their seductive frozen delights.
I remember when this song came out, I had totally screwed up pretty much everything good in my life. I listened to these guys so much (on cassette !) and it's funny, I come back to this song now and I love it, you'd think it would be a reminder of bad stuff but it isn't, it's a hopeful song. It's one of those songs I can listen to 100 times and not be tired of hearing. Oh, and things got better, eventually. So it all works out, that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
"She took us by the hand, hell was the promise land"...It's funny these lyrics felt so personal in high school and now in my mid thirties I find myself in a situation where these lyrics are once again meaningful. Sorry If I am rambling ... GREAT SONG

To show you somthing new and somthing true.
Wisdom. Jesus tells the world of men what they must do to become just like him.
Wisdom ask. Then why cant they do it.?
Wisdom ask. Walk on water.?
Wisdom says. there understanding of the works of Jesus is WRONG.
Bible tells you that there isnt but two witnesses.
Wisdom ask. Then what are they witnessing to.
Wisdom says the sins of their fathers is what they witness to.
Wisdom ask. Who wrote the bible.?

Awesome one of my favorite songs of all time and I know a million songs. One of the greatest bands that no one ever heard of. Saw them in Saratoga Springs NY about 8 years ago. Still think Wallinger sounds like Mick Jagger and has a million times talent!

Gawd I love this timeless, fabulous, toe-tapping tune. World Party, you are one hell of a bad.

Awesome song! This should have been a monster crossover hit, and World Party should have been much, much bigger! Thanks for posting this!
