  • This series was on TLC when that meant The Learning channel Now TLC stands for The Lowlife Channel

  • Absolute pure brilliance! James Burke is a TREASURE! This series and the original Connections should be a core requirement of EVERY HS or College curriculum in every nation on earth! BRAVO!

  • After 7 years it was kidnapping ,if you all do your history you will see that whites was slaves first .Blacks was not slaves or free slaves until America won the civil war

  • This is the episode I have remembered the title of for 24 years after I first saw it when I was a senior in high school. The idea that your life and the things you do with it depend on a hidden web of people struck a chord with me that I have remembered ever since.

  • fuck you crackers foll my people made them change on eachother

  • @bomsheeta Pure nonsense- it was West coast Africans who sold Central Africans into slavery. Only technology and scientific advancement made the 4000 year old agrarian slave based economy obsolete.

  • Please remember that Dr. Burke is an international scholar and not tied in to the bizarre foolishness that is American Politics. Parochial americanisms are not on his mind when he presents an impartial view of social sciences.

Try setting aside the conservative/liberal rat-trap you have all built for yourselves and looking at the information as a species.

  • @ghengiscrayon - You must be joking! The mindset is too entrenched to be displaced that easily. What you are proposing requires cogent thought with the inculcated filters removed.

It isn't going to happen until their little world is destroyed and they are forced to think on their own.

Who am I kidding?! It ain't gonna happen!

  • @ghengiscrayon RIGHT ON! BE OBJECTIVE!

  • 069105 just call you a cracker that need to go on a platation what a moron has no clue, and i bet he/she thinks the The American Civil War was over slavery( no it was over tax's)

  • @jamesburkex that IS what a LOT of people like to tell themselves.

  • Whatever happened to James Burke after this finished as the series wasn't that well received and seemed to lose its way? I do remember him best for advertising Timex watches and Tomorrow's World in the seventies but The Day The Universe Changed seemed to mark the end of a long career on the BBC.

  • Not-so-secretly, I sometimes wish I'd been born into nobility.

  • Oh, the good old days. :)

    I love this series.

  • I take it you're not referring to the slave trade!

    - JBW

  • Oh God, no. I'm talking about the days when people could afford to take a vacation!

  • LO!L Good point! LOL! I wonder if Prof. Burke will ever do a doc on how we had the world in our grasp and lost it to be socialists!?! LOL!
