@ puhatek. It was the Arrow Hall in Mississauga. I was there too. My sister wanted to see Silverchair, but I wanted to see Handsome. They blew me away and Silverchair did not have a chance that night.
If I could've been in any band during my teens it would've been these guys. Top 5 album of all time for me, incredible piece of work from start to finish.
i lost this CD...used to own it, but it got stolen with the rest of my collection a few years ago....they didn't touch my roommate's collections. I miss this right now...I wanna hear Ride Down, and Dim the Lights
i LOVE Dim The Lights. (can't remember Ride Down)
this music is very COMFORTING during a Difficult Moment. it seems to restore ones Faith somehow. kinda Feels like it's about the Inner Struggle etc etc. (it's also about the Inner Piece After a difficult decision. whatever it is this gives Strength.)
Handsome was a "supergroup" containing former Helmet guitarist Peter Mengede, ex-Quicksand guitarist Tom Capone, cro-mags drummer Pete Hines, bassist Eddie Nappi and vocalist Jeremy Chatelain, who also played bass in Jets To Brazil. Handsome released one album, entitled 'Handsome' and produced in Seattle by Terry Date, in 1997 and toured extensively in support of the eponymous record. Tom Capone quit during the final tour, and was replaced by Donni Campion. The band split in 1998.
this album is amazing, i was so bummed that these guys stick around more...it was the perfect record for the time that it came out...a truly excellent direction in music.
Saw these guys in the UK back then. My fave album ever.
1 guitarist from Helmet, 1 from Quicksand, Jeremy the vocalist was in Iceburn before, and Jets to Brazil later (and a stint in the reformed Helmet,) drummer from Cro-Mags & Alloy, and an unknown bassist, who was later to pop up on a Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegans 1dst album.
I had the honor of checking these guys out back in the 90's. They were sick, I bought the cd from them and still own it to this day, Wish they put out more music, This cd is still kick ass,
@pricha24 Wrong sir... Lead guitar player was from Quicksand(Tom Capone) No idea who the singer was with before but I think he was only in smaller local type bands...
1998 ALL THE WAY. I've got the entire original album on cd. How can I help you? Not trying to distribute. Perhaps I can show you where in Seattle to find these locally recorded albums
Umm..that wouldn't have anything to do with Tom Capone playing in both Handsome and Quicksand would it?? Might help with that whole "infuluence" thing.
What a pity that Handsome didn't make any other records, such a great band. I talked with Peter Mengede and he said it's out of question they will be back. What a pity! =(
jeremy (lead singer) plays bass for helmet now...had the pleasure of talking to him at a helmet show at CBGB's a few years back...wishing Handsome was back
I've been a Handsome fan since they put out their self titled masterpiece. It really sucks that they broke up shortly thereafter. Their b-sides "Closer" and "Spill" should have been left on the album. They're probably the best songs they wrote.
I still listen to this great album after 10 years. So many bands do melody vocals over hard guitars now..they were one of the pioneers. I think artists now have just forgotten they ripped them off!
Dude, I grabbed this album from Slipped Disc (RIP) when I found out they actually had this in stock. Then again, I have deftones putting it "Left Of Heaven" on their blog to thank for that... lol. I must be the youngest fan here.
does ANYONE know where to find tabs for Handsome???? I've picked alot out by ear, but coming from Helmet, Peter Mengende had ALOT of fucked up chords, and Tom Capone as well. It sounds good, but it doesn't seem to click, ya know? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say that this is better than Quicksand and Helmet together... 'cause Quicksand's Slip will always be a landmark release.
It's all old folks here... Quicksand, Handsome, Helmet, Prong, Life of Agony, Far, Orange 9mm...
This album was and is the pinnacle of NY post-hardcore. Unbelievably brilliant - better than Quicksand and Helmet put together! What a shame they fell apart only months after the release.
Great cd.I listened to this for 2 years non stop.Going to panic woke me up everyday to school: "yeah it's a beautifull dream,i won't wake up again just to see me down"
Their songs are still good to listen ,no matter how long you listen to them.
... This band is awesome... I listened to it... when I was 16!!!... I still have the album in my cd's collection... Great memories... Thanxx for upload this!!!!... Greetnigs from Chile!!
Yeah seriously underrated band, This album did not leave my stereo for six months when released back in the day, well worth nabbing esp any budding alt rock musos out there could learn a lot very inspiring, shame we didn't get 2-3 albums from these chaps........
Simply awesome...everytime I hear this record it's like I'm back in the '98 and I'm the first kid on my block that has this thing...thanks man,to upload this masterpiece!
This is one of the greatest albums of all time... that most people have never heard of.
Right there with the Rival Schools record. Awesome, must have CD's. And yes, after all these years, these two records get plenty of play in my car/home/mp3 player every week.
One of the best albums of all time-felt so frustrated no one i knew got into them. Another similar unsung best album of all time is Amplifier by Amplifier. best UK band in 30 years.
They were a wall of sound... unlike any band I've heard live... Picture the band Hum, but beyond tight... I have this concert on tape somewhere... I think the Handsome part got cut off :(
dude! if you find this i would pay for a copy too! i have a live bootleg in wave format (lossless). it was recorded on sweden in 1997 and they've played a non record never recorded song. serious kicking of asses!
A Fookin awesome video for a fantastic 'Lost' band! I got into these boy salmost 10 years ago! I'm 28 now & 'Handsome' still sounds as fresh & as innovative as it was back then. They should've been huge! They've been a positive influence on my own musical endeavours & I've introduced them to as many people as possible.
The two non-album tracks I have are "Closer" and "Spill". People talk about an unreleased album, but I doubt it exists. I think these b-sides are the only thing else we'll get out of Handsome.
there's a re-recorded version of "dim the lights", a song they did with krs-one called "just to prove a point", "can't connect" from their 7" (where "swimming" came from) and a song called "swivel" that was recorded live on the hultsfred festival in sweden.
