Who invited her? She sang at the closing ceremony in 2006 and she hasn't done a single thing worth doing since then. What a joke.

Well, it's not like there are more than a couple successful women in rock music. And like I said, the only thing she has done in recent history was the nauseatingly bad song on the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack. I'm pretty sure Canada has more interesting people to be proud of, that's all.

@fratleyiskewl Actually, in rock music (with rock music now declining in popularity, compared to the late 1950's all 60' and most of the 70's and a lot of the 80's) there are few 'female talents' on the top of the charts, at any one time. (you can only have one 'chick band' at a time. that is , a band consisting of women.)

Also, all of Avril's albums are well thought out. The girl is 'an industry'. Plenty of people's incomes depend on Avril's success.

Avril Lavigne's last album was in 2007. She just wasn't relevant in 2010. I guess some people would like to elevate her to legacy artist status or something but that strikes me as a little bit sad.

Yes. Where we are 'not communicating' is where I talk about Avril's fiscal appeal.

The chick is a 'money maker'. I believe you are more concerned with 'art'. Rightly so. My point is that Avril appeared at the Olympics because of the money Avril generates. (i could be wrong.)

It is probably true that her appearance garnered some extra viewers for the closing ceremony. I think it would be hard to dispute that. But her last single peaked at number 51 in Canada, according to Wikipedia. I imagine a new album would fare better but there hasn't been one for a while.
