How did you do this? i have chdk on my canon powershot elph 300 hs, i dont know how to do this. please help me.

@LoveofScars just select macro before start recording, then press shutter button to focus on subjects (you can also select witch focus button you want from chdk menu ) ;)

Yes - bit more manual - 'manual-ish' fixed focus
Ultimate would be some linear - pull focus - capability maybe using the - proportional zoom control
Or with touch screen models a slider could be displayed
