The stimulus plan is built upon Keynesian economincs. By theory, if consumers aren't spending (which they are not) then the governement must do it so that economic activity can increase, which will secure employment in the future.

By all rational accounts they deepen and lengthened the Depression 5 to 7 years. You can't spend you're way out of debt. It was true then, and it is true now. No matter what the democrats tell you. Wasteful spending in a bad economy is never harmless. Debt load is not harmless.

He cut 10 billion off that debt by lowering taxes on rich - allowing them to invest and trickle down the wealth. Research Andrew Mellon - and you will be convinced this is what Obama must do. The government repairs the system first by spending (on banks, on infrastructure etc.), THEN, tax cuts will work when taxpayer spending occurs in the context of more stabilized financial institutions. i mean there's definitely great waste in some government spending, but the general consensus among economists, is that increased government spending on necessities like infrastructure improvement will help overturn the downward recessional spire in the long run. To all you who think "O" is on the right track, Consider Wilson raised the same taxes on the same income brackets in 1929. Roosevelt did the same spending "stimulus" programs in 1932. By all rational accounts they deepen and lengthened the Depression 5 to 7 years. You can't spend you're way out of debt. It was true then, and it is true now. No matter what the democrats tell you. Wasteful spending in a bad economy is never harmless. Debt load is not harmless.

Obama is wrong. Pet projects are not what will save our economy. Take the example of Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon for example. After WWI we had a debt of 26 billion. He cut 10 billion off that debt by lowering taxes on rich - allowing them to invest and trickle down the wealth. Research Andrew Mellon - and you will be convinced this is what Obama must do. Take into account inflation and put into proportion the amount of money saved then and could be saved now.

Instead of this "stimulus" there should be a passage of a new law stating "okay, everybody would like to have a lot of money, but the problem is that the value will decrease as it becomes more distributed. I know, let's make a law saying that it won't. The idea is that if more money will be printed, the value goes UP because there's more of it and people now and in the future will want and need it so there." Goodbye inflation and debt.

Tax cuts cannot be used "give" people confidence in the economy. Giving people 3000, 4000, 10,000, even 50,000 dollars isn't going to bolster the economy. People will just save the money, not invest and now, no vital infrastructure repair is occurring. Think about what you would do if you weren't making enough to pay for your children's college. Don't get me wrong though, there's a good deal of pork in that stimulus that i'm not happy about at all, but I am tired of this total inaction.

The government repairs the system first by spending (on banks, on infrastructure etc.), THEN, tax cuts will work when taxpayer spending occurs in the context of more stabilized financial institutions. People keep criticizing Obama for this stimulus and why isn't he returning the money to taxpayers.....He will....., just not initially....it's a multistep solution.

i mean there's definitely great waste in some government spending, but the general consensus among economists, is that increased government spending on necessities like infrastructure improvement will help overturn the downward recessional spire in the long run. I don't understand people who support the Republicans ideas of tax cuts. It doesn't work in this context. Tax cuts work when there's confidence in this economy, not when financial institutions are failing.
