4.) After checking his pedals, watch his technique. That's his foot technique. Is it original? Not really. But it's what works for him.

@Oxpost In Powermetal (and overall) he surely is one of the best but it's a matter of comparison, you can't compare everyone to everyone just because they play the same instrument. It's like comparing Tommy Emmanuel to Paul Gilbert, doesn't work that way. It's all other people's opinions.

Casey is really good, and I love Kamelot, but sometimes I wish he wouldn't use the double bass so much. It's something he excels at, and by all means I love it, but in a lot of the Kamelot songs, he uses the fast double bass and simple quarter note rhythms on the hands.  He doesn't stray too far from it often enough. There are songs that he does cool weird things on his set (Up Through The Ashes is cool), and I wish he'd do more of it.

But I guess he's the ideal power-metal drummer.

BUT I do love that when he plays, he incorporates stick tricks in his playing, so it makes him fun to watch. But that doesn't help much when listening to the albums....

Speed isn't the only thing Casey does with the double bass. He creates very unique beats using the double bass. Also Casey's drumming aside from double bass is really good, cuz he uses really unique beats with cymbals, toms and snare.

For example, his drumming during Rule the World; especially during the guitar solo. Listen to the drums instead of the guitar; It's epic.

yeah, those are some pretty nice fills. The album Ghost Opera I would say is their best as far as musicality, and variation. The Black Halo is my favorite by them though, cause it's overall faster and heavier, with more double bass, haha. But some of the other albums aren't as crazy or variant.

but anyway, I love Kamelot. Listening to them has paved the way for me to listen to other power metal bands like Pyramaze and Pagan's Mind. I love all their stuff, and will stick with them awhile

It's true joey sucks but this guy isnt far from him im not saying im amazing but i know when sumones a good drummer and its not technical stuff, all this solo is; is double bass drum which anyone could do even non drummers and he is doing basic beats with little stick tricks sorry but i call this tool a poser

His beats aren't basic. His beats are highly syncopated, which takes quite a bit of traditional musical training to do. I doubt any other drummer can copy this solo without screwing up the accents or the rests, even if they practiced this for days.

He is the type of drummer that metal needs, someone who makes beats that are actually musical, instead of just smashing cymbals and banging drums.
