I think I can honestly say this is not only my favourite non-english song of all time, I have just spent ten minutes racking my brains for an English language female singer that I like better... and can't.

It has drama, character and beauty - and the story pulls at the strings of your heart.

Amalia Rodrigues IS the greatest Portuguese female singer of all times!!

I remember being impressed upon first hearing her, when only 9 years old, singing this very song, when I was in Goa, Portuguese India. This one, and "Solidão," were never forgotten by me as having been my introduction to her then, in 1957!

This video is really very nice and well done, and also ties in so very well with the story line!

Try listening to "Solidão," which also tugs at your heart!
