  • Found some FM50/M50's on gunbroker...new apparently. Not stolen or surplus like some of the stuff on ebay.

  • hey do you know how much do the filters for this mask last, you know before they become toxic?

  • @elperrob0rracho8 I'm gonna speculate maybe a week or two. The cool thing with the M50 filters is that they have an indicator tab on the inside of the filter that changes color. While the tab just reacts with oxygen and does not directly have anything to do with the filter internals, it does serve for representation. I keep my M50 filters vacuum bagged even though they are probably expired training filters. Just nice to have them as collector items.

  • @elperrob0rracho8 All that being said, they should not be hazardous to use for another couple of years. Hazardous is a loosely used term here as well. Mainly what I am talking about is when the filter components other than the carbon begin to break down.

  • what would you think is an apprpriate price for one of these, because i found one of these for 322 bucks so can you tell me if it is a good price? please reply(:

  • @elperrob0rracho8 I'd say it is an alright price. They are going to come down in price in the future though and be significantly more common. Filters are difficult to find for them too, so if you intend it to be a SHTF kind of mask, I'd look elsewhere. Really depends on what you want. I have seen the C50 masks for around the same; a better mask in my opinion. Basically an M50 facepiece with 40mm ports. Can use all of the M50 accessories but can use most 40mm filters...

  • @RetroRespirators thanks man, i will buy it then, besides i already have my SHTF mask which is an m40 so this one will be more like another mask in my collection, thanks again, youre the best when it comes to gas masks

  • @RetroRespirators See any c50's around now? I plan on picking up one of these, just cant find em online.

  • mw3 has this mask ;o

  • @RenegadeFury It's chronologically correct, since the US military uses the M50 today. The SAS uses the Avon S10 and Russians use the GP-7VM and some use the old GP-5s.

  • @FortitudeOfHeaven I know the comment wasn't for me but the SF10 for UKSF(such as SAS) was the 90s era kit, the CT12 for early 2000s, and most recently, the FM53 from around 2007. The pop culture impression of SAS that is seen in COD is far outdated. Regards, Dan.

  • @RetroRespirators I see, thanks for the correction. I'm in the US so I assumed the S10s were still in use by the UK. The GP-5s used by the Russians look outdated too and they're for civilian use, unless they had nothing else or were really devoted to the Soviet legacy.

I like how the FM53 uses the standard 40mm thread where the M50 uses the specific proprietary filters. Easier for NATO joint operations or go with filters that have higher protection.

    They're hard to find.

  • @FortitudeOfHeaven As you said, Russia uses a lot of old stock equipment for training purposes. The new PMK-3 introduced in 2003ish is used quite conservatively but is pretty slick. It's pretty much a drastically improved GP-7VM(PMK-2). It's one of the few modern Russian masks to feature an internal nose cup. Plus, wider lenses than the previous PMKs offer much improved field of vision. Any reference of these on the internet is kinda limited. A few pics can be found on himgorodok(.)ru

  • can you use one filter, or does that not work?

  • @LightfeatherxX In practice, no. It does however have self sealing valves, the thing I showed at 2:20. It opens when a filter is installed and seals when the filter is removed. It is designed solely for filter change in a contaminated environment and not for the use of single filters. The M51 as used by armored vehicle crew as a replacement for the M42 series is basically an M50 with a special bayonet hose and a bayonet blanking plug, so it is possible, but just not common with this mask. Thanks

  • do want

  • You do know that those filters go bad after 12 months of being taken out of their protective wrapping, right?

  • how much did you pay for it?

  • woot motivated m50

  • What is that noise your camera is making?

  • @Daskiller100 Just the autofocus motors. It happens when I go with the close-up settings. Add to the fact that the camera is getting old ;)

  • how much are these masks for becasue i need one for when i go drag racing so i dont kill myself on nitro lol

  • @Ps3Reviews40 Around $200 to $250 right now. Thanks.

  • were did you get that mask, i want to buy ,Can you sale to me?

  • @1689mars I bought this one from ebay. Sorry man, none of my masks are currently for sale. Thanks for asking though.

    Regards,

    Dan

  • How much did you pay for this?

  • What's the difference between the M50 & FM50?

  • @Bersatourimbelg No real difference. FM50 is just the name used to market the mask commerically. The same applies to the M53 and FM53. Thanks.

  • @RetroRespirators Thanks, any online distributors willing to sell the FM50 to civilians like me?

  • @Bersatourimbelg Aparently they won't sell to you unless you have the appropriate "paperwork". So I guess they won't sell to just anybody, though talk to the right person and I'm sure it's possible. There is another problem though. If you go trying to buy a mask such as this on the primary market(what we are talking about here), then you are gonna pay somewhere near unit cost...which is somewhere around $900 currently I believe. Keep watching ebay. They are getting more common ;) Thanks.

  • my husband just got issued one but we need to know how 2 put it together.. either he cant breathe or it feels like hes not getting a proper seal...

  • @85neebz Hello, thanks for the comment. Now you say he can't breathe? Is that with the filters installed? The M50 series uses self sealing valves allowing filter change in a contaminated environment. It is designed so that no air can enter the mask when the filters aren't installed. The filters push the valves outward(I tried to show that in the vid) allowing inhale airflow. As far as the seal, inhaling with both filter inlets covered should get you a low presssure inside the mask.

  • @85neebz In continuation of the first comment, I'm not trying to restate everything. I'm sure he is well educated in the matter of doning a respirator. I'd have the filters installed, pull the harness back over the top of the mask towards the front, exposing the outter seal, plant the mask chin first and rock it back onto the face, pulling the straps over the head and tightening at the bottom and then sides(top straps should already be adjusted to preference). Then cover both filter inlets.

  • @85neebz Continued again from the last comment, he could clear the mask by covering the exhale vavle on the front of the mask and exhaling with some force. It isn't necessary to checking seal and is more about clearing contaminets from the inside of the mask, but in some cases could improve seal. If that doesn't cut it, just go over the valves and inspect the facepiece. It should be observable if something is wrong. If all else fails, that might be an issue for him to report.

    Regards,

    Dan

  • go for it dan. i reload a lot of my vid and most of the time they tured out better. :) and the m50 pretty cool and inbox me some more info if u got the time :) cuz i'm going to try to get one this summer. if ur want to know how i got a job 4 the sumer $130 a week :)

  • nice mask dan!! got to love the m50

  • @leonwa22 Thanks man. I'm thinking about redoing the vid sometime to try to make it a little better quality. Eh, might even add in some stuff I didn't show ;)

  • @jrenize It's for either a cable for communications or where the VPU(voice projection unit) jacks in.

  • were did you get that mask i want one very bad i bin looking for months

  • Comment removed

  • I thought you where not going to upload a video of the mask.

    but an awsome mask.

If I had the money I would buy one.

  • Wow, that looks so cool! Very high quality mask! Wish I had one, probably never make it past customs though.

  • @Jackal739 Probably not. Let me know when you get the M45. I believe I do have a tracking number for it at my mom's office. It's taking forever.

  • @RetroRespirators

I think if they were going to send it back it would already be back at your house, probably running an investigation or something. Thats what they did with my M40 too. Hope it gets here.

  • very impressive mask. Thanks for sharing it on the gas mask forum

  • @andrewesquivel No problem man. Thanks for the comment.

  • wah.. can i know how much u bought this gas mask ? i saw it in ebay is so expensive

  • Woah....It's beautiful!

    But the drinking hose...looks...complicated ...again

Looks like the ones on the British FM12, and S10-- which is an art to be perfected if you want to drink water.

  • @TheAnonnation You are right. It is the exact same fitting you will find on the earlier Avon masks like the FM12 and S10. They even had to issue new canteen caps with the mask, as quirky as that may be.

  • Oh...My...God.... IT'S BEAUTIFUL

  • wow! Good job dan fist m50 on YouTube. But the real question where did you get it and how much did it cost. Over all great mask great review

  • @fredforpiz Thanks man, it's all in the description.

  • hey didnt MSA make most american military gas masks not avon?

  • @Arashieatssweets US service masks have been made by a myriad of companies. MSA with the MCU-2/P and MCU-2A/P, ILC Dover with the M40 and a handful of aviator masks such as the MBU-19/P and the M43/M48/M49 series. You even have Scott and Sierra in there with aviation masks such as the MBU-13/P. The M50, C50, and M53 are all Avon. It really comes down to who secures the mask contract. That is where XM masks come in. In cases, they can be used to sell a mask contract to get it into production.

  • I very much enjoyed this mask, the overall look of just fascinated me.

  • @TheGasmaskcollector Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. It is a cool piece of kit.

  • does it work with 40 mm filters

  • @Arashieatssweets Not the M50, no. The civilian C50 does on the other hand.

  • Looks awesome for a movie eh?

  • This is the current issue right?

  • @ShinigamiSuryc As new as it gets man.

  • Does that thing have two filters?

  • @CohenTheWhiteRabbit Indeed it does. Terrible for NATO compatibility and awkward for marksmanship. You would think they would learn. Anyway, it's a pretty nice piece of kit.

  • @RetroRespirators I managed to grab a Finnish Vietnam US G1 M9 Type the other day, not rare or anything, very cool though, the eyepieces are the oddest shape and it's got a big nose.
