  • Another fine example of Brian's genius!

  • carl sing lead

  • ABSOLUTELY one of my alltime favorites of Brian's!! : ) It's like the day in the life of Brian Wilson...cerca 1968 hehe!!

  • 1963-1966 - Masterpiece

  • I Though he can't sing in this period :/ ~

  • The arrangement for the instruments is just perfect. I love the winds especially.

  • Thanks for this post -- some of my favorite ( and a couple not) photos, and one of my favorite Brian compositions.

  • Don't worry guys, the 1 dislike was accidental

  • While the rest of the country was listening to The Beatles, Chicago, Iron Butterfly, the Doors, etc., I was listening to this....And I loved it. I never understood why others weren't as enthralled with the Beach Boys and Brian as I was.....to this day they haven't gotten the "props " they so richly deserve. I was listening to the 4th vocal overdub of Sloop John B the other day, and when they hit the chorus about half way thru...I started to tear up.....that's how good they were...check it out.

  • As i comment the tally is 111 likes and 1 not...1111 is the perfect no. for corduroy! Yay for Brian .

  • brian's voice is purely angelic...perfect. This is different to the version I know. Is this a different version than the friends album? Absolutely amazing weird music. The production is insanely good...A

  • workin' da howdi' boo

  • Great photos of Brian. I've never seen a lot of these before.

  • what do you expect from Brian?

  • I do like this song, and really like the Friends album as a whole, but there's something about this song that makes listening to it feel intrusive - it seems to be about someone with serious mental-health problems finding a coping strategy.

  • @ashie259 Yeah - this whole album came from Brian the psychiatrist trying to help Brian the patient. Everything on it is about coping -- and so the lush, intricate arrangements and quirky editing -- if you listen closely, you can hear an attempt at sanity and structure in a world gone mad. Very unique.

  • Brian I Love You.

  • I remember when I got the Beach Boys box set. I listened to all the "classics" then I came across this song. I listened to it at least 50 times in a row, and knew it by heart after that first day. There is something about this song that was completely unlike any of their songs I'd ever heard. Rock on!

  • @boognish1975

dude, just dont make pointless comments if you dont like it..

  • Once again a song that makes Brian the Guy. A bossanova, lyrics about almost nothing. Busy doin´nothing. This is a great song.

  • Who are the singers and instrumentalists?

  • @YouMuseMe this is brian wilson on vocals and some of the wrecking crew though i don't know who exactly it was

  • I know that may sound absurd but I think this song is much better than it looks. It is evident that the arrangement and production are impressive.

  • getting his Jobim on? great.

  • @janejetsonbot Absolutely. It sounds like Brian had been listening to 'Wave', which is, itself, a brilliant work by another genius.

  • utter genius..

  • love this song

  • As a life-long fan, this is my all-time favorite BB song. I can't say why

exactly. The smooth woodwind arrangement, the ultimate in laid-back lyrics,

Brian's perfect voice? Don't know for sure. But I certainly enjoy the other comments here by people that find this song as addictive as I do. It's fun to know that you're not alone in your love for a song that the rest of the world never heard (and will never know what it missed).

  • This is the most Healty song !

  • Busy ding nothin I think this is ONLY PURE DIAMOND SONG EVER!!!!!!!

while we dont know anything about Bossa

Brian as young as he was knows everything about this Bossa!!

Wondeful for Relaxing the mind of everybody to stay in a good positive mind!!

  • Yeah, I've always loved this song (maybe my favorite BB tune)! I was also one of those who was digging on this tune (& Friends; 20/20; Wild Honey; Pet Sounds; Sunflower; etal.) when most others didn't think the Beach Boys were cool. Everything about this gem is beautiful, the blend of bassoons, bass clarinet, alto flutes, etc. in the horn phrases are stunning and the Bossa Nova vibe is so freaking cool!! I wish Brian would do an entire album of Bossa Nova tunes like this! Awesome, Brian!

  • Awesome song love The Beach Boys

  • Probably my favorite "Beach Boys" song (really just Brian Wilson). The harmonic sophistication in this track is comparable to a jazz/bossa standard by Joao Gilberto- unbelievable given that Brian had NO formal music training. The lyrics are so wistful and thought-provoking as well. Just beautiful

  • Just how many magical gems can this man write...they just kept coming. Love ya Brian

    :)

  • Gran canción, y buena selección de fotos.

  • PURE GENIOUS from BRIAN WILSON, Period!

  • Always loved this song. I've always been busy doing nothing. Can relate totally to it.

  • When we are so worried about having everything, Brian Wilson was satisfied just to have his sanity.

  • One of my favorite songs, great album, under appreciated in those times when it wasn't cool to be a Beach Boy fan. I say, see what you missed folks when I was still a fan!

  • Gr8 song :) x

  • Probably the most timeless track on Friends --- out of several...

  • Best song ever describing the mundane, ennui.

Marcel Proust-- contender in aisle 17!!!

  • haha

  • brian and marylin sing this. you can hear her in the choruses.

  • one of his best 'ditties' sung with a unique bossa nova beat...

  • i favourited this video amonth ago, i cant remember why? i just seen it in my favourites and thought? i cant remember where i had seen this before , and why i favourited it. but listening to it, i can see why it might of cuaght my attention. is it from a film or something else?

  • One of my favorite melodies, lyrics, and vocals from brian. Such a beautiful voice, with such pure pitch.

  • I think Brian's voice is amazing when he sings really high, but when he sings like this, its so sexy. Just shows how much talent he's got. :)

  • I wish there was more info on this song. Who plays the bass, did Brian write out the bass line? Cool sh__t.

  • rmc25 and Wavy77....thanks for your comment

  • Can anyone confirm who is singing the verses. Brian is singing on the chorus but I'm positive he's not singing the verses. Could it be Al Jardine? Could some officianado help?

  • It's Brian.

  • It's most definitely Brian singing the verses. Remember he's not doing falsetto all the time.

  • Brian all the way through.

    JHP

  • Definitely Brian

  • These lyrics go into excruciating detail.

  • That picture from 2:05. Does anyone know what year that was taken?

  • yeah he's looking pretty fat here.

  • This has just got such a delicious laid back vibe to it, very summery and chilled.

  • It sounds like it falls into the genre of being a Bossa Nova, a type of music that originated in Brazil, popular in the early-mid 60's.

  • When I first heard this, I just hit replay over and over and over. Love this song!!

  • This song is perfect. Amazing. A CLASSIC example that sometimes simplicity is the best. I truly adore this song.

  • @burstmatress I agree this song is perfect...But it is not simple at all.

  • hahaha this is so funny, directions to his house hahahaha, if this was on SNL it would fit right in

  • i used to think this would be perfect on SCTV with guy cabalerro (spelling?) in his white suit + hat!

  • weird as this sounds, i heard this song about 4 years ago. loved it. and didnt know what it was. i just found it 2 secs ago. im in heaven.

  • Only a Brian Wilson could compile the mundane events of a typical day and arrive at such a brilliant result.

  • Great posting. Always thought this song was Brian taking a little musical stroll on The Beach at Ipanema.

  • love it so much. just brian describing his day, and the way to his house. genius. the whole album is delicious.

  • Friends(1968) is a stunning album. As were 20/20(1969), Sunflower(1970) and Surfs Up(1971). Holland (1973) and Carl and the Passions So tough (1972) were also interesting works. The beach boys were making some astounding music in those 4-5 years. Nobody was listening. Its only in recent times that the value of these great records are being appreciated

  • Man, I agree completely. From 66 - 74 was the real peak. Just awesome stuff.

  • Sounds like it wouldn't have been if Mike Love, Al Jardine, & Bruce Johnson had their way, They felt there was more money to made being an oldies band living off their pre-66 hits. Thank god for Jack Reilly among others.

  • Other than Holland and Carl & the Passions I agree all OUTSTANDING albums!!!

Friends and 20/20 are the most underrated IMO. I think its some of the best in the BB catalogue... dig the artistic growth of the others (Brian's contributions are always great so he comes through too of course...)

I like Holland I just don't think its GREAT, and I dislike most of C&P..... just my 2 cents!!

  • @augustusdes pet sounds to sunflower is one wild ride. :)

  • @augustusdes these are the LP's I listen to most. I like Today and PS too but Friends, 20/20 and Sunflower are just stellar

  • @augustusdes And don't forget 'Wild Honey' either ..... another great one from that period.

  • @augustusdes Thank goodness for YouTube. It's really too bad that most casual listeners only associate the Beach Boys with their 1962-66 period. I think they came of age from 1967 through 1973. It's a shame that It's interesting that they had greater success, during that period, outside the USA. Could it be that while we were embroiled in Vietnam, assassinations, and Watergate, we dismissed this great music the rest of the world embraced? Just a thought.

  • @augustusdes

    I was listening!!

  • Great photos of BW! Thank you for those and also for putting up this masterpiece.

  • This song is the contradictory essence of Brian Wilson. Sweet, naive, sophisticated, smart, funny. Then there's this line: "I get a lot of thoughts in the morning. I write 'em all down. If it wasn't for that, I'd forget 'em in awhile." Makes me smile every time.

  • Bossa nova

  • I will write it again -- Brian how dare you know my way to the store -- and my life hee hee

  • hey bri. thanks for the directions reminder. be right over.

  • funny

  • 0:55 - fart sound.

  • haha I know I thought only I heard it. I put it in my cover version too. ;)

  • @Yaggsionhimen WOW! never heard that...haha!

  • Actually 0:54

  • P.S. - How could you not love this song?

  • This is one of the most enjoyable songs I can remember. The words tell a story of an innocent day that I would love to be able to live again. Been a Beach Boys fan for 41 years and am just getting to love this one. I could listen to it 10 times a day and not get sick of it. Simplicity is genius, and this is a prime example.

  • This song always chills me out.

  • This song really amuses me, especially the briges, and the mood shift at the end of the song, when the key changes and it's a bit foreboding. Weird song.

  • LUV BRIAN!

  • Luv My Carl -- but Brian is so well -- pet sounds -- just wasn't made for these times! Miss Denny so much and luv Al, too.

  • Brian how dare you know my life -- and even the way I go to the store heeee heeeeeeeee

  • Yea it was on the friends album.

  • Is Brian singing this song?

  • omg! this one is genius, i never heard the pop musician how could write such a good bossa nova track. Verses are great and this long bridge/chorus is thrilling. And lyrics, story telling, this guy is a genius - take a look: Old times - surf, Pet Sounds - Orchestral, baroque, SMiLE - Psychedelic, and now this bossa nova masterpiece. Ohhh...

  • Brian's bossa. Musically speaking, he could do anything.

  • An awesome "slice of life" tune from Brian. Nice pictures too.

  • An autobiographical bossa nova - Thakns for the new-to-me photos!
