I just LOVE Roy Eldridge, & this absolutely is as sweetly melodic and "reserved" as I've ever heard him playing. I can imagine a conversation which went on, between Tatum & Roy - something like: "None of that high-note showoff crud from you, now, Roy Boy!" "Yessir, Mr. T!"
And, WE are the beneficiaries of a truly historic LP!
I remember when I was 13, I waited hours for this .mp3 to download off of Napster, and then, when it finally did download, I listened to it several dozen times, trying to figure out Art's strange voicings and runs on my own home piano. Good times.
one of the first jazz albums i ever bought. tatum even played through the drum solos.

I love this video my god art tatum was incredibly creative and lol, looks like he couldnt stand any "space" qhen he was playing
