  • wow i live in slane.

  • Holy quacamole - you've got nearly 95K views - fantastico. Our 2009 festival films got over 1 million views if you put them altogether. Isn't that great.

We are working on our 2010 programme now. All the best:)

  • This is wonderful! I am from America and my relatives still live on the Hill of Slane at the bottom of the Abbey. I remember playing in the Tower of Terror and all around the Abbey as a child. My great great great great grandfather came to the Abbey in the 1700 and planted the woods around the area. Great video to pass on to my son and his family.

  • Wonderful video, and eerily serendipitous. My name is John Hagen, and I helped build the Tower of Terror in France. Hagen is Norwegian as opposed to the Irish O'Hagan. Your tower is 1600 years old and mine is a theme park attraction, but that's good enough for me. Thanks for posting!

  • thats rite pacy were from SLANE lol

  • Gotta be sure to be sure

  • me and me mates are up there all the time and 4 ur infomation are acsents are way sexier

  • are you kidding me XD

  • Wow i just heard the news!!

    congrats buddy!!

  • Sometimes I wish I could live in a place like this. I really like all the castle ruins that surround this area. We don't have anything like that in California.

  • serious dude im irish its not that great i prefer canada where i live now and i always wanted to live in cali

  • wOW! vERY NICE.. LEARNED A LOT THEY DIDN'T TEACH IN SCHOOL... THANKS five stars!

  • I love this. My father sent me this video. He grew up near here, in Rochfortbridge, West Meath---he lives in NYC now, and is an anthropologist--and he really thought this piece summed up the history of the area well.

  • Reminds me of Hibernia from DAOC

  • Nice film. God's blessings to Ireland, the Irish and their descendants (wherever they are dispersed).

    Greetings from Ohio

  • 4 a second there i thought it wuz like a horror vid or something...dont ask me y....cuz i hav no idea y

  • Maybe it's because you thought the title read "The Hill of Slane" or "Silent Hill" <= muahahah.

  • Excellent video. Thanks to Honeybea264 for the share.

  • i'm assuming that is slane castle? ive always loved that castle because my grandmother'smaiden name was slane and we're irish! I've always wondered if there was any connection there. would love to find out. I've always loved this music too!

  • Thats not slane castle. thats the hill of slane its an old college, chapal and graveyard.. There is no people in slane with the surname of slane. but you should really trace back the name and see how far it goes

  • Nice vid;) greetings from Norway.

  • haha slane is the best! i live in slane how lucky am i :)

  • Don't say haha..maybe BlueGrass in the USA the author!..I'll Stand here with You! (He said She!..but this is not a LassieSong!)...USA!

  • as a fellow slane person i can say yes you are lucky

  • Hope things have calmed down for you today.

  • what is St. Patrics day?

in my cauntry theres no such a holiday!

  • St. Patrick's Day is a holiday celebrated by all people of "Irish" heritage.

  • lovely video, my ancestors are from Ireland (Sheehan) and this is almost like being there! Thanks!

  • awesome

  • great video its nice to see a st patricks day video thats actually relevant to the holiday

  • Beautiful countryside and very informative. Thank you for sharing your beautiful video.

  • Wyllie, a very interesting video. Several years ago I hiked up the Hill of Slane one evening. I climbed the Tower of Terror, it was quite spooky. In the graveyard below the tower was a partial human skull protruding from a grave. A great place.

  • Is there anything so sexy as an Irish accent? Well, other than Scottish of course...

  • congrats!

  • please, i'd be really happy if you checked out my song: /watch?v=LP129dI9eNw

  • Thanks for this great vid, it lifted my spirits and made me feel great!

  • nice!!

  • Very interesting and love you're accent too.

  • lol, when he said Brigadoon I was like, "it's an actual place?!?!" but then he continued and I felt foolish. :P Nice video.

  • Thank you so much for a fascinating visit to a place that I'll probably never get to see in person. Your kindness is appreciated!

  • I am happy to say that I have Irish on both sides. Love the Irish accent but have a problem understanding it sometimes. Are there different dialects? Thanks for the history today, so much better than drinking green beer and then turning green later! LOL

  • Happy St. Patrick's day everyone! But with all due respect, we have an even greater celebration coming up. its called (PASSOVER DAY), In Hebrew its called (HAGGADAH). Its start s April 9-16 2009. By the way this information, is the way I believe St. Patrick would of enjoyed beeing remembered.

  • Excellent. Thanks for the history. Makes me want to be an Irishman.

  • Good ol' Ireland.

Keep YouTube comments full of healthy debate but free of mindless abuse!

    The Comment Sheriff.

  • Thank you, nice film and Happy St. Pat's from Florida!

  • Congratulations on being featured on St Patrick's Day on YouTube Ireland and UK:)

  • My grandparents live in meath!

It's a realy nice place (but a tad wet)

  • Ireland is sooooo Green ^_^.

  • this is a great video! looove the history!

  • At least they featured one actual Irish vid, shame most of the time people promote shitty "Irish" American culture instead of the real thing. Like that other vid they featured with all the yank stereotypes.

  • I totally agree. I am irish american myself, but have always had close ties with Ireland and have been back to stay with family on several occasions. the way i see people acting today makes me sick. its a shame they have no interest in true irish culture

  • I love Ireland so muuuuuuuuch! How I wish I could know it!

    S

  • Thanks very much for making this short film for our festival. We are delighted to receive it. That's an informative narration you've given us too.

We did enjoy your Tower of Terror story - and HoneyBea going down the stairs on her backside:)

All the best to you and thanks again for The Hill of Slane.

  • Me a**e :-), not to talk about that Jack Russell that almost ran me over while "bum"ping downstairs. I am so scared of heights, you wouldnt believe it. Even the balcony gives me the creeps.

There are some photos of theat trip (before and after the Tower of Terror) that I try to find in the "album" (actually a huge cardboard box) I will send them as a video response (hopefully).

    Slán agat

    Bea

  • Now come on HoneyBea - don't tell us the Jack Russell was afraid of heights too - that is one shaggy dog story too far:)

  • Au contraire, he was speeding up the spiral stairs like a maddog while I took my time getting down the hard way. I think this encounter was a traumatic experience for the poor wee dog, God love him.

  • We have to find those photos

    S:)

  • Hi Ladies thank you for your nice words and you are welcome, hope this gets a ball or 2 rolling!)

    Shane
