can u help me? since my stroke i cannot put weight on left arm. pls can u tell me how to get out of my kayak using one arm? now using pole i get pole btwn my legs, sit sideways use pole to pull myself out with good arm/hand. but i trying to learn how to get out without pole and no one holding my boat. weak left arm fr the stroke is my prob. ideas please? thanks karen.

@cougarbahia Sounds like you're really doing well! I have no advice. I would just roll out into the water I think!  lol. how about dangling a rope over where you are going to get out of the kayak?

Roll onto stomach then knees, stand up and step out.

How, becouse if you stand up, if you step to the right u will fall into the right(same with the left) if you will try to get out while sitting, you will still fall into the side wich you want to get out.

Nice job Nancy :) Try it a little closer to shore, and place your paddle behind you. Let one blade rest on the bank, and lean towards the shore placing your weight on the paddle blade that's resting on the bank. Then swing the leg closest to the shore out and begin to put your weight on it, then the other. You should be able to stand up now. Good luck, it looks like you have fun out there!

Yes we do. I actually found your page by searching for fiddleheads and saw you gathering them. We actively searched for them around here last year but didnt find any. We forage all the time. We actually had success finding wild asparagus and now have a nice plot in our yard. Transplanting them went great. You could always mail me some fiddlehead ferns and then I'd have a piece of you in my yard. =) lol

I've never tried digging them up. I'm not sure how well they'd get along in the mail. Actually, if you're not in Canada, I don't think I can send them across the border!

Do you search for mushrooms?

We do but havent found any edible yet...kinda leery on those. Do you have wild asparagus there? BTW I was very impressed with your kayak loading. Will have to try that when the weather gets better. I'm such a winter wuss.

lol...just answered my own question about the asparagus. Found your videos. I wish we had the privacy for an outside bath. We have Spring Beauty flowers here. They are indeed beautiful and they taste great. We did cattails here this past year. If you pickle them they taste like real pickles. Our fav is Day lillies...so many diff ways to prepare them. We have planted tons in our yard. We also make pure Bayberry wax...now thats a chore but worth it.

Oh wow, I was watching holding my breath hoping you would make it out ok. As the Kayak kept tipping I kept hoping. Just when you fell out I went OOOOHHHHHH a big gasp and my littlest Yorkie came to see what was wrong. I covered my mouth and he kept sniffing to make sure I was ok. Glad you are ok too! I hope the water wasn't to cold.

I suggest paddling the kayak so the bow goes up onto the shore- its much easier.

try using a dock(or whatever it is im not so good at english) to get out use the paddle on the dock for stability and yust hop out
