I hadn't heard that Johnny Otis had died until this evening. The Johnny Otis show would come on in the afternoon about the time I got home from school on KTLA along with Not King Cole. Another great has passed but their music survives in their music.
Without doubt thisis The Johnny Otis Show. The Guitar sounds a little like Bo,and the song has Bo's beat, but this is Johnny Otis,He also had hits with "Castin my spell on you",and "Willie did the Cha Cha".Otis was actually makin music in the late 1930's and 1940's,long before Rock andRoll was born.
@bluesatsunset I know SAD DAY for me One of my heroes. Sad so many so called Rock&Rollers don't even know his name. Discovered Jackie Wilson and Willa Mae Thornton and produced HOUND DOG for her,,long before Elvis. Discovered Etta James. Little Esther,,Little Willie John and others. Johnny wrote Every Beat of My heart.

Love this cat. Still rocks me when I hear him crank out Hand Jive. Wish there was something going on today to rival the old rock beat.

Who's the DUMBASS that mixes up the GREAT JOHNNY OTIS and BO DIDDLEY
THEMOJOMANsince1959 2 months ago
"Hambone" beat is a Diddley trademark, but the vocal is, without a doubt, Johnny Otis. Bo's vocals sound nothing at all like this.
