no way man. I'm not really a fan of those metal sticks. They feel funny to me. Anyway, those are Vic Firth Dave Weckl signatures that I'm using. I've used them for years and really like the length/weight.
@joeyjuniorjunior Ha... I think you misunderstood me. Of course I didn't invent the motion. I just mean that the NAME... "heel/toe"... is something that I thought of myself. I never knew what to call it so I got in the habit of calling it that. You called it "shoulder/tip" and that's a way better name. I know the technique is common and I definitely can't take any credit for that.
you're right dude... nice catch. on that groove I'm dropping extra snare hits in the syncopation and the elbow movement is necessary to avoid a traffic jam between my arms. however, it's important to understand that the elbow is not the rotational center of the heel/toe movement. although I might be moving it a little like you pointed out, it's not moving very much, and the movement that forms the foundation of the heel/toe technique is still in my wrist.
What cymbals are you using?

@stephengoold you didn't make that "heel toe" hi-hat thing up, people have been playing "sholder/tip" sticking for years.
