SOPA act is basically "the internet businesses VS. the entertainment businesses" to control the internet freedom of how we surf and do online...facebook, craigslist, google, yahoo, mozilla, wikipedia, etc. VS. visa, espn, time warner, marvel comics entertainment, disney, etc..
The control factor is based on their revenue factor, their ability to squeeze the money out of folks who enjoy the content WITHOUT really compensating the true producers of the content.
dude, though you're doing good spreading the message.. it's not about control, but about revenue/money.
If an entity thinks it's about to lose it's livelyhood, of course it's going to react, like any entity would.
mpaa, riaa are just reacting to ensure they're going to be alive and relevant, and their supporters( read, record labels, movie studios) think their relevance ( and hence their profits ) is based on control of dissemination of content. and hence the disillusioned SOPA and PIPA.
These proposed laws were designed, whether intentionally or not (unintentional?, yeah right), to greatly extend and enlarge intellectual property rights.
It's like trying to extend political borders into the oceans and into space. At some point it's just over reaching and impractical. It becomes an intrusion and an interference with everyone's rights.
The media giants should know that their power has limits. They can have their way with congress, for now, but not with the internet.
I am pro-business and even i am disgusted by the SOPA bill purely because of how ineffective it is in protecting business. its funny how big business usually wants government to stay out of their affairs, but then they support this piece of legislative crap. Government is woefully ineffective when it comes to regulating anything, this is just the perfect example they seek to solve a very complex problem with an incredibly simple solution. Anyone who supports democracy should be against SOPA
@oddskull34 they should be concerned, their site would be one of the millions of sites shut down. they dont censor comments or forum posts, i know somewhere buried in that forum there is a link to infringed copy righted material.
@edb987 Which is ironically why protecting the internet is so important. It's become the only source for factual and unbiased information left. We need to defend it with everything we've got.
@edb987 Which is ironically why protecting the internet is so important. It's become the only source for factual and unbiased information left. We need to defend it with everything we've got.
is congress proving to the people that they ARE controlled by corporations!? doesn't this justify occupy wall street!? are they tarnishing their own name!? there better be some new fucking parties in the future because these geizures are getting old pretty fast!
@UberMonsterDude This does not justify Occupy wall street, wall street is not the reason those protestors were unemployed. but it does show how much corporations control legislature.
That was so amazingly satisfying to watch. Sam's biting sarcasm towards the MSM is that much more effective knowing how regularly he subs for Radigan and Olberman.
He is the absolute go to guy on the subject, being the only video journalist left who has prominence in Alternative News and a fairly regular presence in Network News. His views are unique in the media and we are lucky to have him.
I agree with the sentiment, but this guy has a dreadful speaking style. There were long weird pauses, giving the impression he was talking unscripted and without notes, but it was far from fluid or easy to listen to. I got halfway thru before giving up. Maybe he should stick to blogging rather than video/radio
You know this kind of subject is normally only talked about in the "quiet rooms". Pretty quiet in my room, as I serf the internet today to see what web sites were blacked out and which ones weren't. Read all their messages and sent a couple of letters to my representatives, via the blacked out web site links. OH and I watched some of the videos on some of the pages as well. So, yes the quite rooms worked today.
The "liberal" media is only as liberal as anchors on the air can get away with being unless it potentially affects their profits in a negative way. I mean, if Current ever becomes anything close to a billion-dollar company, I shudder to think that IT, TOO, might actually become like that. It's just sad that all of the independent media in this country are either too small and/or not 'profitable enough' to actually reach a wider audience and get noticed more.
THIS is the part of the media that makes me cringe whenever jackass Republicans call it "the liberal media." THIS behavior by the media to NOT report on SOPA that much IS NOT LIBERAL in the slightest!
HOW are we supposed to trust our own media and take anything they say seriously when they won't even report on something just b/c criticism of it may affect their profits??? It's DISGRACEFUL! You think the BBC would stifle debate just b/c there was a bill in the House of Commons that might affect their revenues one way or the other?
Do you realize if the goverment passes the S.O.P.A. law, that most music videos, or any videos containing copyrighted stuff, will be TAKEN OFF of youtube?
We can't let them do this!
If you live in the U.S., or another country who cares about this, POST TO EVERY VIDEO!
You all dont get it, your country is far too full of fat lazy ppl who dont care, and in fact wont even ask a question until their jailors show up at their doors. And then they will squeal like the pigs they have been made into. Theres a reason who education has been degraded in your country, and a VERY specific reason why your leaders turn politics into a religious type of affair. How else will they stuff insane things down throats unless its to the gullible? This is already lost.
What I learned about America today: You can violate our 6th admendment (Am. Detention Bill), our education system is fucked, we over consume and are overweight, we blindly let the government lobby and continue to fuck us, but if you touch the internet...SHIT HITS THE FAN.
@Crack3044 Ehhh, I think you're looking at this with too narrow a scope. There are people all over the internet bitching and trying to organize against the government's, to use your terminology, fucking us. SOPA and PIPA go to the heart of the beast; they go to the people (particularly the young people's) main source of free discussion.
@MaceMeetFace Perhaps you are right and I maybe looking with a narrow scope. However, I don't think it can be argued that the fact it was against everyone's baby, the internet, that it is being made such a huge deal. To exactly what extent can be debated. It just pains me that this is what people get behind blindly. Many people heard "internet" and "censorship" and flipped out. In theory the bill is not bad, just that it was written too vaguely. Most likely it will be cleaned up and passed.
And our reply to the NBC ,CBS ,ABC and of coarse Hollywood in general should be this. As far as your tv shows go .Well we are going to boycott your sponsors ! Oh and film makers .Don't count on us showing up at theaters to watch your movies and forget about us buying your videos.
ok but why the hell does it take thia guy so long TO JUST SPIT IT OUT????? STOP THE LONG ASS PAUSES, WE GET IT...YOU WANT TO COME ACROSS AS INTELLIGENT AND PROFFESIONAL...
@roceliustina i disagree.... i like his long pauses.... sometimes i need them to let things sink in.... i know i know im stupied but listening to him makes me smarter ;) lol
This just means that the corporations are waking up to the fact that they now need to buy up as many internet news outlets as possible so that they can continue to keep the public in the dark and controlled.

I thought Chris Dodd said he wouldn't be a lobbyist specifically for the banking interests? I don't think he left lobbying completely off the table.

As a spokesman for the 'new media', Sam Seder talks like a member of the 'old media'.
He uses almost 7 minutes to say what could have been said in less than 1 and still have plenty of time to spare.
He reminded me of Rush Limbaugh. They both seem to be in love with the sound of their own voice.
