  • Rome has a lot of dark history, for example Emperor Nero during the Roman Empire, the slaughter of Christians.

  • I saw this film when I was 12 years old, a masterpiece.

  • This is the only film that I cry at every time I watch it.

  • strenght and honour!

  • I want to cry !!!!! :((((((

  • Why did I have to lose the disc with the movie on it.

  • i love this part, also when the music starts at 7:00. I always loved films like this one, there's a true story in it and the music makes it beautifull. I'm 23 now and i still got tears in my eyes when i see this film.

  • i fuckin love that movie

  • Can't imagine an atheist version of this film

"If you find yourself alone, riding in fields with the sun on your face, do not fear; for your neural pathways are firing haphazardly and out of sequence! You will become nothing!"

"Maximus... don't go to them, they don't exist anymore."

"Now we are free.... I won't see you again. Ever."

    Yup

  • @ChainsawGutsFuck ...with a name like chainsawgutsfuck how can you patronize if he would have been athiest? just because you don't believe in an afterlife doesn't mean on your death bed you can't think of a happy place to be.....and he wasn't in heaven you tard..he was just with his family..heavens what you make it...obviously you think atheists don't believe in honor and life..they treasure life more because they believe you only have one...so don't be ignorant.

  • @andyrushx420 But I do believe in an afterlife. I meant an atheist version of this film would ignore all the "afterlife" bits, which pretty much made the film as emotionally charged and deep as it is.

  • Last scene makes me cry like a baby every time! Saw this in the cinema when it was originally out; Absolutely unforgettable experience. In 12 years, nothing has come close for me!

  • serves that spoilt emperor for stabbing him in the side b4 the battle started

Maximus wuld've thrashed the Emperor if that didnt happen

  • @DJPJ911 He still thrashed him, just not as easily ;)

  • who the hell disliked this :'(

  • Sadly no they don't make movies liek this anymore and i wonder why the hell not!!!!! the movie would totaly pay for itself

  • God fucking Damn it they don't make movies like this anymore.

  • i nearly cried !

  • The music is when the eyes start to water then when she says "Go to them." it's when they spill over. Thumbs up if this happens to you no matter now many times you watch this! Beautifully acted film! :'(

  • @LegallyAwesomer Every single time man!

  • God love Rome.

  • If you don't mind Pilipic, I just had to add this to my channel. ;-]

  • no matter how many times i watch this film. this part nearly brings tears to my eyes every time

  • i like how they just leave commodus there haha

  • @SonofRa47 LOL

  • feels good to cry once and awhile

  • this end raises a question "are you doing something important with your life?". And that's why we all cry :_)

  • @neoflyboy nah..to me i took it as he was a honorable man who lived every breath to serve rome and his family and died. then how she felt knowing someone she cared about is dead. stadium all has silence and carried him off in mourning he died, and left the caeser behind showing rome care more about one good man then an a cruel caeser

  • Love this movie

  • This movie is great and all but I am sorry his wife looks like a tranny

  • I cried the shit out of me and my girlfriends says to me: " Are you gay? " -.-

Well I cried motherfuckas !!! XD

  • @1Kunene REAL MEN CRY WHEN IT IS NECESSARY. HERE... CRYING WAS NECESSARY.

  • Genius ending... sends shivers down my spine

  • this and A.I. are the only movies I've shed tears to

  • To be honest...I cried !!!!!

  • SENATUS POPULUS QUE ROMANUS.

  • This is wonderful

  • The classiest, most honor-filled death scene in any movie ever. Watched this movie about 10 times, and STILL cry when Gracchus says "Who will help me carry him?".......

  • @glovesave23b So true! and Lucius starts to walk forward first!

  • O VERDADEIRO AMOR MOVE MONTANHA,LINDO VIDEO,OBRIGADO

  • Maximus the best!

  • Tuscany's landscape at the end.. AMAZING! :)

  • It came out in 2000 when I was 10....I'm 22 now and I've never stopped loving this film....along with the LOTR Trilogy...and Braveheart....very few quality Hollywood movies these days....tragic! can't wait for the Hobbit! :)

  • i can't stop watching this, it's such a good film.

  • Best version I've found so far! Thanks for uploading it!

  • Is it wierd that im a guy and i cried over this? :/

  • i wish people still had the honor that they had back then

  • @nuttyjunior i know ..

  • @nuttyjunior what do you mean by 'honour' the Roman empire was a horrific place.

  • @nuttyjunior I do. I honor my country and to our soldiers that help other people from harm and destruction

  • @nuttyjunior what the hell are you on about

  • @nuttyjunior "Honor" . . . well actually, Roman soldiers didn't have that much honour . . . only power, and they used that power for whores and alcohol . . . sounds like my kind of army : ) . . . but no, if you want to see REAL honour, check out a samurai or ninja . . . NOT Roman soldiers.

  • The actor that played Juba also played Soloman in Blood Diamond.

  • I cried like a man, excellent film. Strength and Honor

  • One of the best films of all time to be honest

  • Go to them

  • 2 people get killed by Commodus.

  • WHAT A FUCKING GREAT MOVIE

  • Man, even wounded and dying of blood loss - Maximus is still a better fighter than his nemesis.

Justified in this case, seeing as he was a soldier and Commodus was born and raised soft. Don't get me wrong: He's a skilled swordsman, but he's not nearly as good as his rival.

  • @NicholasGeschke Look at the armour Commodus is using, it's too flamboyant, too many loose flapping bits that can be used against it's wearer. The armour Maximus uses on the other hand is functional, what decoration it has is unobtrusive and understated. It's been used too.

There's a shot earlier in the movie where Max removes his rings, that's an old soldiers thing, rings tend to get caught on things and you could loose a finger, He's more than used to fighting for his life in a melee.

  • great movie, great music

  • What can i say..., but "GREAT".....

  • One of the very few Hollywood movies that aren't utterly crap.

  • At 7:45 you can see soldiers in the back, then seconds later it cuts to the the scene where they are going to carry him to the gate and the soldiers there are already lined up on both sides of it. LOL...

  • When he says "I will see you again but not yet, not yet." and smiles I get chills every time and the lady in the song is singing that was awesome! The song symphonies by Dan black and kid cudi is cool too it kinda reminds me of this ending song.

  • Today I saw a slave become more powerful than the Emperor of Rome.

  • If this dosent make you cry or give you goosebumps, than somethings wrong with you.

  • Pretty much the only film that can make me cry.

  • @xSUPERxGTx See the movie Butterfly effect it will make you cry

  • I've never cry in a film, but at 7:45, I cried for the first time. That's how I want to die.

  • @IkkazLeFeca Jesus Christ me neither ,but that moment makes you cry

  • trop bien cette video surtout a la fin <3

  • And then Spartacus shows up to kill them all.

  • 8:18 .... love it !

  • 8:02 no one cares about Commodus. LOL

  • @1160168 why should anyone?

  • SPQR

  • this was my fav movie when i was kid

  • @dhas37 cant blame u, besides i think this movie is better than 300 and immortals, those just had to have it from special effects and action the blows off the screen, Gladiator had action, story, plot and a deep going plot, besides Russel is a bear also in real life and he trained his ass off for this movie

  • I still feel after watching 100 times

  • this is sad. as evil as he was commodus was actually hot. i don't wnat to see him get killed.

  • this movie is so fucking good :]

  • well, i cried.

  • This scene solidified Gladiator as my favorite movie of all time. No movie has ever had an ending so sad yet so happy. It's beautiful

  • Italian sounds better....

  • I really hope there's an afterlife

  • @Oenhero Don't hope, because there certainly is.

  • it made me cry and iam 11 and truning 12 next month ;( ;( :(

  • @theAdemar2010 turned 12 december:)watched it when i was 11 too

  • When a film makes a guy cry.....then it's a fucking good film.

  • @HalfDecentVids How fucking true....xxxx

  • @HalfDecentVids puss

  • @nuttakid2011 SHUT UP. he isn't a puss

  • @HalfDecentVids HHHHHHHHHHHRRR i dropped a tear too

  • @HalfDecentVids I agree wholeheartedly, man. I sobbed like a baby on this film.

  • This is one of the most epicest endings i've ever seen in my life, and i've had my share of epic endings.

  • Gladiator and Spartacus are my favoriete movies

  • QUINTAS is a coward....

  • now we are free. and i will see you again...but not yet...not yet

  • @MrDeltaPixel greatest last line cant help but cry

If my elysian fields look like that, i wanna get there as soon as possible.

  • Greatest movie ever made in my opinion.

  • Love this movie watch it again and again!

  • @Aidahadjimuddin But not yet...not yet.

  • @Legerfeld2008 it was filmed in the uk lol no joke

  • Nice Movie, BUT why did they cast an Australian Actor for the roman Maximus? They have plenty of Actors in Italy.

Atleast the Germanic Hagen was played by an German.

  • @Lagerfeld2008

name any italian actor who could've done a better job than Russel Crowe? No? I didn't think so!

  • @Lagerfeld2008 Maximus is a roman, that is right, but that doesn't make him italian automatically. He is from a spanish province, so casting an italian actor for that role would not have been the right thing either ;)

  • @DeeKay11998899 It could be an spanish man, but not a german one. Roman was LATIN, not BARBARIAN.

  • @Lagerfeld2008 maybe they try to get one to play but none wanted to be in the movie

  • Dammit i can't handle all these feels ;_;

  • wats it like in blu-ray?

  • one of the greatest movie endings of all time.

  • ;( i cry everytime i watch this movie and i am a guy and i am not gay its just so sad ;(

  • Whatta boss...

  • He was stabbed in the side, under his armpit.

  • best ever

  • lol everyone picks him up and just leaves the emperor on the floor

  • How can anyone dislike this movie, especially this scene?

  • Love this movie, one of my favorite scenes ever. I just noticed this though. Pause the video right when Maximus falls 5:43, notice the ground where his head is. Then look at 7:15 at what his head is laying on. LMFAO!!! They made him a sand pillow! Wonder how many takes they had of that scene, his neck start hurting or something?

  • вырезать кусок из фильма большого ума не надо

  • I've been searching youtube for this clip for months so I got tired and decided to just go buy Gladiator on blu ray.. and now I find it lol.

  • @zzVegito how much is it in blu ray

  • @imisrael92 i bought it new for 30

  • btw Lucilla is hot

  • I actually bought the movie soundtrack it's so awesome. Good to fall asleep to, it's relaxing and epic simultaneously. I actuallythought about an idea for ome Skyrim DLC involving "now we are free" being played as some Dwemer run into battle... In slow motion of course.

  • Wow you should have said spoilers jeez

  • @dog7156 spoilers? for me "Gladiator - Last scene + ending " sounds like there's spoilers in it?? ^^

  • @jgfnhjfn lol I was waiting for someone to reply.

  • btw who is this Quintus guy? he has more authority than the emperor (the soldiers obey him...??? ain't the emperor supposed to be top authority?)

  • @schwarzfalk Hes the general of the soliders isn't he? Im not to sure tbh.

  • @TheI3lakey yeah he's the general - but Maximus is the emperor, that's why I asked...I mean the emperor is *supposed* to have more authority than a general right?

  • @schwarzfalk Romes government influenced the US government a lot.

Just as the emperor is Outranks the general.

The president Outranks the highest ranked of the military.

Maximus never got to become emperor so he was always beneath the emperor's level.

  • @schwarzfalk in this film the emporer is almost the biggest asshole...noone likes him...and would u give your emperor your sword if he cant even win a fair fight on his own?

important to know is that the emperor stabbed maximus in his hips right before the fight started

  • @schwarzfalk alright you knew already...sry ^^ whatever...the scene wouldn't be half that epic if the general would give him a sword...

  • The emperor killed Maximus's Wife and Son, and the emperor killed his FATHER, the true emperor, because he wanted to make Maximus the emperor, not his son.

  • @ExtinguishedKhaos Lemme make that more clear, he himself didn't, but he sent his men to do it.

  • @schwarzfalk Quintus was a friend, and general, with Maximus. When Commodus went after Maximus, he bribed Quintus to keep out of it by making him the Captain of the Praetorians. I imagin that Quintus was disgusted by what Commodus did, and by his own behaviour, that is why he turned on Commodus in the end

  • @Nianudd alrite so that explains why Quintus didn't wanna help him

but how come the guards obeyed Quintus & not Commodus? was captain of the pretorian a higher rank than emperor?

actually who had top authority in Rome, was it the emperor or some1 else?

  • @schwarzfalk The Praetorians were the emperors bodyguards (i know it was more than that, but look it up on wiki if you need more details). Being so close to the emperor, in my interpretation, they saw all the stuff he pulled, and thought 'f**k that, I'm not going to hlp him', whereas Maximus was a very respected man.

  • @Nianudd so basically you saying they placed honor above authority? that's good

but totally unrealistic - in real life no soldier would do that: any1 in the military gonna tell you, a soldier's programmed to follow orders, law & authority always comes first, and then the rest :D

  • @schwarzfalk probably not honour, that's just my reading of it from the film and the book, however, looking quickly through the article on the Praetorians, several emperors were actually killed by their guard, including Gaius Caligula, and Nero, who was deserted by the guard. I think it's rather more likely that it was done in the film to show the dissatisfaction of the Roman people with Commodus rather than anything historically rational. It is just a film, after all.

  • @Nianudd heh I know it's a film, but this ain't supposed to be LOTR or something ^^ so it's kinda logical to hold it by a higher standard of realism

anyway I didn't know pretorians have killed their emperors...these guys are supposed to be elite & their loyalty even stronger than the standard legionary (but iirc Caligula & Nero where nutcases right?)

nevertheless - remember the part where Commodus orders the execution of Maximus' family? did he send in the pretorians to do the job?

  • @schwarzfalk I think so, but speaking of elite and loyalty, wasn't Indira Gandhi killed by her bodyguards? Elite doesn't mean incorruptible. The article on Praetorians was really quite interesting. It turns out they actually sold the empire once in 193 AD, after they assassinated the previous emperor, Pertinax.

  • @Nianudd if that's true then it kinda contradicts this scene here don't u think? I mean IF it's the same men who blindly obeyed Commodus when he told them to kill a whole family, then these men are already completely corrupt just like the emperor & they would never suddenly side with someone as good as Maximus

  • @schwarzfalk Not necessarily the same men. There were a couple of thousand of them, and familiarity breeds contempt. The ones closest to him would have seen a lot more of his habits than the others.

  • I always get chills when I watch this! :')

  • Sheath your swords, sheath your swords!

    Fight you pussy!

  • Chill bumps....I have have them now.

  • Now we are free. And we'll see you again. But not yet, not yet...

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH MY FUCKING FEELINGS

  • "he who seeks revenge must dig 2 graves" 1 for maximus to honor forever, and 1 for commodus to take a shit on like a giant porta potty

  • 9:15 doesnt exist!!

  • JOAQUIN YOU'RE SO HOT!

  • Great revenge movie? That's why I disliked it. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is gained by revenge. it leaves you feeling empty. Ben-Hur is the far greater film - it promotes forgiveness.

  • How the hell did this popcorn entertainment win the Academy Award or best picture?

  • great revenge movie

  • Codle, the name of the song is now we are free by Hans zimmer

  • anyone know the name of the song

  • @CODLEGEND94 "Now we are free" (Lisa Gerrard)

Lyrics are part hebrew, part homemade language :D

  • Honestly, one of the best movies ever made and one of the most encouraging. I'll admit I did cry in the end. It's such a encouraging ending I have ever seen.

  • btw how many seconds would Commodus have lasted if Maximus hadn't been inju
