this is maybe a silly question but, can u tell me (or make a tutorial video about it) how to make a Steerable Bristle Bot with a battery AND a solar panel (incase a battery dries out). Thanks anyway! The vid is awasome!!!
@Terminator6817 Looks to me like there are two counter-rotating vibrator motors. Bristlebots have some wicked torque steer, you can make them go one way or the other by reversing the motor, so having two motors, I assume you could make them go one way or the other by running one motor or the other (each turning a different direction) or straight by running both motors. Just make some circuitry to control this.
A solar panel wouldn't deliver enough current to run this without being too big.
Its very cool, but to go with that music you need several of them chasing, with at least one dressed as a policeman, and one in a bikini for no good reason.
This was a high school (senior) project for the student shown in the opening of the clip. She would have to let all of us know if there were any further upgrades beyond what I filmed here.
The bot uses the radio controller board from a small, twin engine electric boat with the original motors swapped for pager motors. The motors have a small flywheel on their shaft ends to vibrate the bot while turning. These motors are usually found in pagers and cell phones. All of the excess wiring and such was cut down, shortened or discarded to shed as much weight as possible. Using double-sided tape, the two motors were stuck on the sides of the bot to give it that retro Star Trek look.
that is sooooooooo cool!!! at school i hav to take a hands on technology class and i already know how to make the bristle bot itself but how do u make it steerable plzz tell me how?

i see! all the bristles except the outer rows were removed and two pager motors attached.
bachaddict 2 years ago
i would imagine two pager motors for steering am i correct?
bloodtracer100 2 years ago
Hello. Yes. The lady that made this used two motors for steering. The toothbrush was just cut down at the handle and no bristles were removed.
