  • Love Kristen's voice, classic sound.

  • This is a deep song.

  • Beautiful, understated, passionate, melodic, it's music!! It was also the best song in the movie.

  • IS THERE A VERSION OF KRISTENS' VERSION ON CD????? DOES ANYONE KNOW?????

  • @candelise there was a CD, kind of an EP iirc, released called "On The Cutting Room Floor" that had this song. It was probably meant as a studio promo, so not sold in stores. Sadly, I had to sell it, but I'm so glad someone was kind enough to post this most beautiful version of this song here. :)

  • Yes but please check out the Loser's Lounge version; the most amazing bar band cover you will ever hear.

  • Is she on itunes?

  • ¡hermoso Kristen!

  • Her version was so beautifully done in the movie with so much heart. This is why it is the definitive version. Elvis wrote an incredible song and sings it great at the end of the movie.

  • The song has such a power to it, man or woman can understand the emotion in this song and feel a way. Cause we have all been there before, and deep down we all need that strength to sometimes just to go on with love.

  • The song "A Boat On The Sea", also by Kristen Vigard, also from this film, is my favourite. So beautiful.

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • The greatest version of this song ever. Period.

  • This song is so beautiful to me.

  • i want to see a clip w the full orchestra....

  • Outstanding song from a perfect film. When I saw the film, the audience applauded at the end of this song! This version is the best. The Elvis Costello version is no-where near this for raw emotion and power. Such a shame this version isn't on the CD.

  • Love this song and this version - also love Alison Moyet's version - check it out

  • A gem indeed!

  • both versions are good

  • this is beautiful, we could all take a lesson from this

  • I'm glad this exists because it's a wonderful version, even though it's not Illeana Douglas who is shown singing it in the scene. The next scene is a fully orchestrated version with background harmony on the vocal. I'd really like to hear that. Ironically, in the movie the song is a flop!

  • i was so moved when I heard this song in the "Grace of my Heart" movie.. i bought the soundtrack and then instead of her singing it it was Evis costello.. I was heartbroken

  • @jarnold250 ME TOO! I think Elvis new how good it was and wanted it to have the same impact, but he fell flat with that...he has NO emotion in his voice...she is so powerful!

  • after seeing the movie "Grace of my Heart" I had to find this song. the other version with Elvis Costello is also great. thanks for posting this!!!

  • it's the combination: voice you want to curl up with, song that's sad, angry, but glowing; i hear the poignant feeling of surviving a deep loss, and almost wishing you hadn't

  • I saw this movie on TV. Loved this song so much that I bought both the DVD and CD.

  • Elvis Costello is an amazing song writer.

  • You are correct!

  • FABULOUS.

  • this is art

  • The definitive version of this hidden gem.

  • It is such a beautiful song from such a beautiful movie^^ Can't you uploade the other songs from the movie.?? I can't seem to find any of 'em here in Denmark.??

  • Did you happen to see the movie on tv2film too? :P

  • Yearh I did;D Are U from Denmark.??':]

  • Selvfølgelig :P Så den nemlig os lige for et par dage siden og måtte jo så høre sangen igen.

  • Jeg har set den 2 gange;D Det er en af de bedste film jeg har set;D

  • Its so sad, and so beautiful, makes me cry and get in touch with my soul and spirit.....

  • me encanta

  • Where can I get this song? It is not Kirsten who sings it on the soundtrack.

I just LOVE this song and I would love to have it my self..

  • This is one of the great songs specifically written for the soundtrack of the movie Grace Of My Heart. Amazing song writers like Joni Mitchell, Lesley Gore, J. Mascus and more. Although it's still an awesome version, the CD actually has it's writers, Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach doing this song. I recommend it highly.

  • what a WONDERFUL song!

  • I WANT HIM.

    I WANT HIM TO HURT!

  • LOVE this song!!!! I saw the Movie years ago

  • PLEASE! How can I change my score points for that video? I want to put 5 stars and I switch on 2!!!

  • OMG! What a superb song! Beautiful...

  • This song on the voice of Kristen makes a dream come true... Really sorry Elvis Costello or Bette Milder or whatever who sings this song...

  • Elvis costello wrote it

  • I know. Thanks a lot! Sorry for my English I'm from Spain.

  • With Burt Bacharach he did, yes.

  • Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach wrote this beauty. A very powerful combination.

  • Sometimes when you hear and grow to love one version of a song, any other version seems like blasphemy. Considering that Elvis wrote it (with Burt Bacharach), you might want to give it a second chance. I don't hear the pitch issues or any of the strain you mention (I'm a musician). Sometimes expectations can diminish the appreciation of different interpretations. Perhaps your ears will work better if you open your mind a little. Peace.

  • @Joliaxgato I highly doubt that man, Elvis' voice is a 1000000 times more refined and much more more strong than this person, sorry but she doesn't even compare to EC.

  • LOVE this song!!!! I saw the Movie years ago and again recently. Ileana Douglas is a revelation, she should be a BIG as well as Kristen Vigard. Both are so talented!!!!

  • Beautiful song:-) Perfect voice for this music:-)

  • mmvvpp I know how you feel, it's been almost two years and I still dream, I still wake up wondering if it's ever going to happen again. Maybe they'll realize that I'm the one after all this time. I miss it, that love is gone but I want it. I compare everyone to that, NO ONE MEASURES UP. I TRY TO LET GO BUT I WAS LOVED AND I KNOW IT. I WISH I COULD FORGET.

  • Una de las canciones más lindas que escuché en mi vida....guau

    grace

  • Love her voice and her version is so much better than Costellos...

  • God Give Me Strength... :[

  • I also love version of Bette Midler.

  • God give me strength... to be totally over him... it's been years now but i still feel the pain...the hurt... and tears still flow... He's happy now... with his new family... while i'm still here-- all by myself--- alone--- ... Tears flow as i listen to this song... Please, God give me strength...!

  • God give you strength. Luck sometimes plays a favorable role when you're courageous.

  • When you lose the one you love...This is relative. The pulsing of this melody flows thru the whole film~ magnefique!

  • Elvis Costello sounds horrible on this song at the end of the movie. His voice is off pitch and so strained. I could barely watch t he credits w/ him butchering this song in the background. This version is a million times better. Movie clip, PLEASE? Why can't we watch both? Bad decision to take it off-it really sells the song to see the poignant movie sing,

  • I totally agree with you. I have no idea why they let him sing it. This song is so awesome. I could listen to it a million times.

  • You clearly don't realise that Costello WROTE THE SONG and you have no understand the meaning and emotion involved in this song. If you did, you'd understand Costello's performance. How old are you? Thirteen?? Dilettante! Look it up and while you're at it, check your facts before you write your uninformed nonsense.

  • AMEN !... G1bsonip Could not have said it better myself!

  • Actually I think you should check YOUR facts as if you do you will find that the great songwriter BURT BACARACH wrote the song and intended it to be sung by a woman, hence the lyric " maybe i was washed out like a lip print on his shirt".

  • Burt Bacharach is a world famous COMPOSER. He and Hal David wrote classic songs. David was the LYRICIST.

Bacharach and Costello co-wrote the song, 'God Give Me Strength' especially for the film 'Grace Of My Heart'.

Costello would have written the words to the song.

May I remind you that the song was SPECIALLY COMMISSIONED for the film and therefore Costello wrote lyrics to illustrate the feelings of the character (A WOMAN).

  • You should check your facts too. Burt Bacarach and Elvis Costello wrote this song together over the phone. Costello in Dublin and Bacharach in LA. It clearly has Bacharach's sound...listen to 60's music by Dionne Warwick to hear similar tunes. The lyrics go both ways dependent on who is singing it.

  • What's your point? We know Bacharach's style and some of us know a lot about Costello's immense musical knowledge and abilities. I've already said that they worked together. Btw, I don't need you to tell me about Ms. Warwick either. I have been listening to her music since I was in single figures. Thank you.

  • @G1bsonlp LOL just the response I'd expect to see from a pretentious, snot-nosed Costello fanatic. I'm a fan myself, but I drew the line at the point just before he started taking himself too seriously. I remember all of his weirdest freak fans sounded exactly like YOU, though! Do you follow him around the world, dress like him and stalk him backstage, too? Weirdos... XD BTW, who cares if he wrote the song? Nobody's questioning his song writing, but it doesn't mean he's fit to sing it.

  • I can relate so much to this song!! :(

  • This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!

  • Best song !!

  • Just watched the movie and had to see if anyone had this song on youtube. Glad you did! Love it!

  • I really loved this movie and this song just pulls ur emotions..excellent!!!!

  • This song is one of those movie Jems that can't be forgotten. The raw emotion she Pours into it breaks my heart and at the same time, lifts me up. I will always love this song. Thank you Thank you for posting it.

  • There can be few moments more poignant in movie history than Illeana singing this song to Matt Dillon in Grace of my Heart. Why oh why can't we see it on YouTube? lol

  • I just love hearing her breathy, real version. She does bring this to life. She makes you feel it, and its painfully beautifully.

  • i like both versions-this one is a little better than elvis s. great song

  • This makes the hair on my arms stand up. I just had a look at the Daniel Lingstrom version and he doesn't give it feeling like Kristen. She sings it like she's lived it.

  • I have always thought this version was better than Elvis Costello singing it. This lady really pulls the emotion up. It is the version from the movie. Strangely, her voice is very close to Illeana Douglas' speaking voice. They got an almost perfect match on that and I can see why people would assume it's the actress singing it.

  • This is the kind of song that tears you in two when you lose your solemate

  • Can anyone tell me were I can get her song Slave to my emotions with peppers guitarist John Frusciante?

  • this is a great song, but nobody "takes your last chance at happiness..." that's just rubbish.

  • Of course, you are right about that, long-run. But in the immediate wake of someting that truly breaks a person's heart, these lyrics are really very accurate. I especially think "I"m only human, I want him to hurt" is very raw.

  • that's actually my least favorite line.

  • You are a very strong person, which is admirable. Not everyone faces heartbreak with such strngth. Therefore, see call for it from other sources.

Good for you, to be so strong in who you are!

Compassion to those who aren't there, yet.

  • If you've ever lost someone you loved deeply, then you can relate to 'he took my last chance of happiness' and 'I want him to hurt'. Until you go through a grieving and healing process, that is indeed what it feels like.

  • Lovely song....my favourite scene in the whole film.....Kirsten's raw, sweet voice and the Illeana's passion and pain in interpretation....wish the scene was available.

  • I agree...I wish the movie clip was still on here. Every movie these days about singers uses an actor to convey the voice. And most people know it's probably not the actor singing. I just think the movie clip was SO powerful. Why can't we have both? :(

  • This was my "life song" when I fell in love and had my heart broken at seventeen.

Still love the song, though. (:))

  • I'm feeling this now.

  • So sorry you're hurting like this. Guess it happens to us all, yes? Hope you're healing. Take care.

  • Yes, it happens to everyone. The healing process is the hardest part. Hope god give us strength.

  • I have lived this

  • It is such a terrible music scene these days when someone this talented is not all over the place. I know she is older now in her 40's, but she should have made it to the top at least 10 years ago. What a shame! Elvis Costello wrote this for the movie.

  • simply fabulous

  • Oh! I was disappointed not to find the clip from the movie, but I'm pretty sure this is girl who sang it in it.

If she was responsible for the movie clip being removed, I don't blame her a bit. Imagine singing this song this beautifully and having people assume it was someone else.

  • I think that clip is the best advertising a singer could have. It takes your song and voice and adds passion and a powerful visual representation of the lyrics... I didn't even know this song or the movie. That clip made me literally jump up from my laptop and rent the movie for the first time...In the middle of finals! Sorry, but this still background and karaoke words just doesn't elicit the same emotion...even with your incredible voice. :(

  • What happened to the awesome clip with Illeana Douglass from the movie? Lame! :( Kristin, I LOVE your voice, and it's cool to have this on Youtube, but that scene is so powerful...I wanted to show it to my boyfriend to sell him on the movie. Why can't there be both? :/

  • this song stirs up so many emotions in me. I swear, every time I hear her sing "I want him to hurt" I cry. I feel it when she sings it.

  • I watch this movie for that one scene, too. Brilliant.

  • i love this song... its so beautiful ... i watch grace of my heart just to hear this song.

  • the most beautiful song

  • I loooooooove the movie Grace of My Heart (which is where this song is from) I finally tracked down the soudntrack, and it had the Inglebert Humperdink version of this song, not Kristen's.. I was so sad!!!

    thankyou for this!

  • I have the sound track from the album and it has the Elvis Costello original (he co wrote with burt), many good songs on there. If you can't find it message me and I'll do a copy for you

  • LOL!! I can't believe I put Inglebert Humperdink as being the singer of this hahahaha! I know full well it is Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello, I must have been drunk lol!!

thanks for the offer, but I do have it already, you're right, there are many many great songs on it... cheers!

  • this song makes me cry

  • wonderful song

  • very nice song 5/5
