@Powerhhhgame2008 Actually no bad idea - why should a completely different music not make it into one's top ten :). I'll listen to minutes to midnight later, didn't know the band.
The list here is great, i only own the Ritual CD, and the Big big train, which for me is one of the best releases of 2007. Taste is always different, and that's a good thing. Nice list! Reminded me to buy Beardfish, somehow I wanted to but couldn't find it in Hamburg.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I cannot say thank you enough. You sir are responsible for me becoming a fan of Ritual, and they have become one of my favorite bands of all time. Same with Puppet Show. I love that album too, but IMHO still nothing compared with Rituals release..
No problem! Glad I can do my little part in spreading the word on some of these bands. I hope to have my "Best of '09" video uploaded in the next couple hours.
"To MawcDrums....if you like Ritual, check out the band Hands. You'll enjoy them too. They have a bit of that Gentle Giant influence."
Sorry raider, accidentally deleted your comment. Thankfully it was still in my inbox so I could copy and paste it.
Thanks for the heads up on Hands. Listened to a track from their 1977 debut here on Youtube and they sound very good! Just when you think you've heard everything along comes a great recommendation like this. :)
Hey, nice collection! I stumbled on Mystery a long time ago and at the time I couldn't find any info on them. It wasn't until the past year or so that they re-appeared on my radar. Hope to see them at ROSfest in the Spring.
I cannot speak to the rest of the list but I agree Mystery set the high water mark that year. I am still amazed at the quality of that album and the richness of the melodies and performances. Benoit David shines when he is not held up to comparisons. He can deliver great vocals. St. Pierre's compositions are stunning. -- Sam Utah
Not really a Porcupine Tree fan, but I did like their last album and the EP. Strangely enough Anesthetize just came on the internet radio station Aural Moon a few minutes ago. :)
2007 was such a crowded year for great new releases that it was hard to pick a top 10 (much less top 20).
Ha ha ha... Thought Chamber has a name similar to Dream Theater. How about "Idea Room" or "Notion Closet". Bwaaaa ha ha! See -- a synonym for mental activity and a synonym for some sort of place.
Yeah, I know not everyone can get into Epica. The light use of death metal vocals turns some off (much like some people disliking that side of Opeth). That probably was the only thing keeping it from being my overall favorite of '07. Otherwise it's an amazing album from Simone's beautiful vocals to the production to the musicianship to the orchestration etc.
'09 could be another stellar year with new CDs on the way from most of those 10 bands.
Spectacular....no words. Here in Italy we're full of commercial-petty-idiot music! These bands are oxygen for those who love MUSIC! Thanks..I must find the way to have these albums

Maybe because I'm not a fan of Linkin Park. Not a bad band, just not my cup of tea.
I actually had to do a search to see what band you were referring to.

Nicely done.
I allso like these albums (Epica I think not). There are so many great progressive rock bands that are hardly noticed.
Allso check out RC2 - Future Awaits, Brighteye Brison - Dreamers and Deceivers, Magic Pie - Circus Of Life.
Thank you for no 1 Mystery - Beneath The Veil. Didn't know that one!
Best wishes and enjoy music!
