I guess it depends on how many the Air Force has already.
But don't be fooled into thinking Russia, with it's perto empire and China's new economic dominance, that they will not be building and developing fighters just as good however.
WHAT?! lol no way the US is waaaaaay ahead of the primitive crap Russian military.
Even with all the sad posturing Putin has done, once again acting out military parades in Moscow, the Russian army is still today weaker than it was during the peak of the Cold War.
I think this was a great move. Just putting resources to use where they can do more good.
Only when considering AF. Even though Russia does have top of the line fighters with stealth and vectored thrust. They just don't have the perto $'s yet to give their pilots flight time.
What about China?
As long as those resources go into the F-35 I'm fine with it.
They have a replacement - this is just a smoke screen. I think there is a new F-35 that is so advanced, it renders the F-22 obsolete. There was also a news report on Russia or China hacking into systems to find out details of this new aircraft. Google - Computer Spies Breach Fighter-Jet Project
I agree, who knows what they have in development. Like the Aurora, new B1 lancer, ect...But I think it has more to do with the F-35's multi-role capabilities and VTOL technology. And more then one military branch can use it. While the F-22 is limited to mostly an air superiority role. Which nothing any country has can match.
Thanks, will be googling that soon. I've heard only limited news on that. No telling what they're up too.
We need an airplane killer not a bang for the buck plane. The F22 is an airplane killer. Other countries are making airplane killers. Where are ours?

Now we are stuck with the Iron Dog (F-35). Did you know the F-35 can only go 1100mph, making it the slowest front line US fighter in 50 years.
1959 - F-104 starfighter 1500mph
2009 - F-35 1100mph. GARBAGE!!
