I knew a woman who bred her prize stallion this way, as she wanted to naturally breed them, and the mare was very similar in personality to this one. She kicked him and gave him a multiple fracture in his hind leg, shattered it. He was put down not long afterwards...

It depends , this stallion has always been kept with mares so he doesnt rush in and can read all the sighns the mares are giving him . But I would never put a stallion in a paddock with mares if he's only ever hand served. thats just asking for trouble.

at least he wasn't too rough with her. I've seen some mares that got roughed up really bad. one horse got a chunk of meat bitten out by a stallion, near her tail, and also got kicked numerous times, resulting in curved scars, from the hooves.
