I don't doubt zap644's sincerity, and I'm sure that Fred LeBlanc and J.T. Griffith work hard and have earned a devoted following, but I'll take the Dave Laredo Cowboy Mouth over the LeBlanc/Griffith Cowboy Mouth any day of the week.
It's a shame that the Dave Laredo Cowboy Mouth broke up so soon.
WOW! So excellent! I continue to listen to this album, Cowboys and Indians. Shocked that the second song on this video is "My Brown Girl," one of my favorites on this album. Thank you for posting this, and please post any other material from Cowboy Mouth (real).
This cannot be real - that is this cannot be a former incarnation of the NOLA band Cowboy Mouth, I refuse to believe it. The band in this video quite frankly sucks.
I finally found 'Hurricane' from these guys. It was the first song I ever heard on WHFS, an alternative music radio station in Washington, D.C. back in the 80's. I remember it because the synth breaks into 'Peter and the Wolf' at the end. Ahhh, memories!
cool vid but bummer ... kept waiting for "hurricane" the top track on the elpee, & only get 9-10 seconds of it. oh well. nice for utoobing the band, tho.
cool keyboard moment during brown girl @4:47. always liked that change.
wonder why they drifter away, some strong cuts on that album in the way back ago 80s.
heard it on 'xrt in chicago and went out and bought the disc. now another example of how cool youtube is.
Not sure quite why you're calling this the "Original" Cowboy Mouth. I'm fairly certain that isn't even Dash Rip Rock, which is where I feel Fred really developed the style he eventually founded Cowboy Mouth on. Plus, it's just not Cowboy Mouth unless they're singing "Jenny Says" which as far as I'm aware was not recorded until Dash Rip Rock's "Ace of Clubs" album... a really kick-ass album by the way. My favorite cut off that album that I wish Fred still played was "Go Home Little Girl"
Because this is not the band you're thinking of but one which preceded that Southern band of the same name. Of course, the very original Cowboy Mouth is a play by Sam Sheperd and Patti Smith. :)
They're different. That is all. The other band is boring to me but eh, I like original (read "real" country) to the shiny new stuff but eh, that's just me.
This is _not_ the Cowboy Mouth famous for "Jenny Says."
Cowboy Mouth wasn't formed until after 1990... when Fred LeBlanc split from Dash Rip Rock and joined forces with Paul Sanchez and John Thomas Griffith (Red Rockers).
Many thanks for posting this, I've been searching forever for something from the original Cowboy Mouth, if only I could find this on CD then I could die a happy man.
Nothing to do with the current band by the same name - in '85/'86 Fred leBlanc was drumming for Dash Rip Rock - but DRR had a song (on their first album) called "Johnny Ace" that quoted the line about "...a rock'n'roll jesus with a cowboy mouth..."

I remember this from the mid-80s.
I had this album on vinyl, it's called "Cowboys and Indians" - great album.

This may be the Red Rockers - Cowboy Mouth's guitarist John Thomas Griffith's ealy band. They had a hit called "China" back in the early 80's.
It sound's like them.

No, i can assure you it isnt..

Isn't them. This band is no relation to the later southern band of the same name.

If this is the "original" Cowboy Mouth then they suck compared to the real Cowboy Mouth. The other Cowboy Mouth is awesome.
